OT-Reporting live from Ocean Springs, MS with Dennis

Well, I sit here debating if me and my family are going to stay and ride out Hurricane Dennis, or if we are going to run.
Last year when we ran, we had to go to my parents house in Tennessee, an 8 hour drive, which took over 18 because of traffic, and people doing dumb things. 18 hours in a van for a 10 year old, 4 year old, and a 2 year old, seems like a week. And for the parents listening to them it seems like a month. But it is the same this year, all hotels within 7 hours is booked, in every direction (except to the south, nothing but water there). We would have to leave, ride 18 hours sleep at my parents house, and ride back about the same amount of time, and go to work.
Bad thing about this storm, it is suppose to go over my parents house in TN, as a Tropical storm oe Depression. So we would be on the road heading back thru it.
For now we are staying, we will be keeping a close eye on direction, and storm strength. It's been a very rough week, with Tropical Storm Cindy and Hurricnae Dennis all with a week. Weather as either been awful, or beautiful. Tornado's water spouts, downpours, high winds, and worst of all people acting like idiots.
So what is this all about, I thought it would be different to offer updates on the weather (as long as we are here), to so what is going on.
I have been thourgh 1 Hurricane,George, a few years back and that was scary, it was a cat 1. The eye wall past over or house, and you could actually see the stars, if you were brave enough to stick your hear out from under the mattress that you had pulled over your head in the hall way. But the peace only lasted about 5 minutes before it all started again. We were unlucky, cause we only caught the outer corner of the eye wall, a freind from work, had 20 plus minutes of peace, the eye went more square over him.
So for now everything is calm, about to start boarding the house up, just got in from work, had to work today, so I wouldn't be behind Monday, when we are off because of storm damage, if any (yea right). Dennis isn't even here and he has messed up things bad. I normally work from 6 am to whenever I'm done (3 t0 6 pm) But this week been going in as early as 4-5 am and getting off 7-8 pm. Had a squal line come trough earlier this afternoon, heavy wind and rain no tornadoes (yea), but several wrecks on the interstate, idots never slow down, when it's raining.

But gonna go board up, I will report in, as long as we are here, have power, or haven't gotten scared ran into the hallway, and pulled the mattris over my head. Till next time-ERIC

Bugsy, Sadie, RockD, and any one else that I owe cds to, sorry, I PROMISE whn this is all over I will get the post office. I have your stuff made, just can't get to the PO.-ERIC

Just finished boarding up windows, ran out of wood. Picked ip objects in yard, that could become a missle, in the wind. Came inside, weather channel said storm has become a magor Hurricane again, a cat 3. They expect it to go to 4. That is extreme damage. As long it comes ashore east of us, we will be in better half, it you can say there is one.

Local tv station. Had some good spots earlier, good links to NOAA (?), goverment tracking system.

Sun is shinning, kids are out playing, normal day, except for the sound of hammers and drills.-ERIC

Well hang in there, Eric. I HATE waiting for the approach of these things. I was in a hurricane in Texas in the 80's and the eye wall passed right over my apartment. It got totally calm. Like the storm was over and then, here comes the wind, blowing everything the OTHER way.

I sure hope Dennis chooses a bit of a different path for the sake of you and your family.

Hurricane's are just a mess to deal with. No question.

Keep us updated!

If they change the name to Larry, they'll have to immediately downgrade it a couple of Classes now, won't they ?

But, if they keep it as Dennis, only 600 people will even witness it, not counting the frogs and people in hot air balloons. :D

Me and my wife were so tired we fell asleep, were sippose to get up at 12 for latest update, to decide. Just woke up, 5 am storm jumped from a cat 3 to a strong 4. That is bad news. May intensify to a 5. That is very bad. There would be nothing left, for miles and miles. Still do not know were it is coming yet. They have narrowed Landfall, moved it closer to us.

Should never have layed down. But been going on about 4 hours sleep a night, ever since Tropical Storm Cindy on July 4.

May be leaving here soon, eith going to a shelter, a friends house, who doesn't have 3 200-300 year old oak trees by their home, or getting in van and getting out of here and try to out run the weather (not always a good move).

Talked to you later-ERIC

Suite Madame Blue- Since Dennis was a no show (good thing), I leave it in your capable hands, of getting the "real" Dennis down here.

Off the subject- how do you go about putting the pictures over on the rleft hand side like you do? Anyone can help me on this? Thanks- ERIC

Eric. It has been a long time since I put my avatar on, but here goes.

Go to profile at the top of the page. At the VERY bottom of all the list of settings is the avatar display.

You need to go to some sort of picture hosting site. I use Photobucket.com, but there are lots of them out there. At that site you upload photos or whatever and then you link to the picture by copying its url into the place provided on the MR profile page.

Or you can use one from the MR list.

Be sure the photo you choose is small. Remember some of the ones the troll used to link to were HUGE. That is annoying.

Also annoying, to me, personal opinion here, are animated gifs.

Anyone have photo hosting sites they prefer???

Eric:
You and I have a lot in common. I live in slidell not far from you. We were in Destin, when Dennis came through, got back just before all hell broke lose down there (no gas, long lines, etc). You got to feel for those poor people down here in Navarre and Pensacola. These people have had their lifes literally destroyed twice in less than a year. Keep all of them in mind this year (blood drives, donations, etc). We evacuated last year to Atlanta, which wasn't a bad drive, but all the tornados and bad weather went that way. The have started contraflow here in Louisiana, but there is just not planning for a massive evac of the gulf coast. Like you, which is worse, major storm or 20 hours in the car with the wife and two small kids. Now here comes Emily.

Emily can stay away.
Like living inSlidell? I have a friend whose fa,ily runs a business over there. Some flooring company. Biloxi, and Ocean Springs are not bad. But I would not wnat to live anywhere else in Mississippi-ERIC

Slidell is cool. Our Parish (that is an equivalent to a county you yankees) operates in the red, which is rare for our corrupt state. We have little or no crime, shopping, tons of restaruants, 25 miles from the big easy, close to your neck of the woods for casino and concert runs, 3 hours from the beaches of florida and great schools.
