Just to let you know, there's still talk for this to be released on DVD. There was talk about it on the Styx Collector site. It's up to the record company from what I heard.

I only own the CD. but I must say I've never been all that impressed with the performances on it. Much prefer Return to Paradise if I want to hear a live Styx recording. I made that judgement well before I knew much of anything about the Band's politics, so I dont think any of that clouded my judgement.
If they release it on DVD, I suppose I'll buy it, but it wont be the 1st day it's released or anything.
( for the recoed, I'm not very impressed with any of the 21st century Styx live recordings either. )

I think Return to Paradise is the gold standard for live concert video/DVD. I very much enjoy the Caught in the Act concert and enjoyed the little "movie", bad acting and all.
RTP is just the best in my book, though.
Question: RTP was a gold selling DVD. Quite an honor for Styx. Since the subsequent live DVD's featured "The Best Lineup Ever" (and I have not seen them) do they hold up in quality to RTP??
And if so, why did they not sell as well as Return to Paradise?
(And please. This has nothing to do with Dennis DeYoung. I am talking about Styx here).
I am NOT trying to be contentious with this question. I really would like to know thoughts on this.
I realize the DVD market is different from CD's, but I would think most fans, like myself, enjoy having their favorite group on a concert DVD, since those are often rarities.
Bugsy

I dunno Froy, I 'd be interested in Trading with you IF:
1. You had something I wanted ( CITA isn't it )
2. I had something you wanted that I no longer wanted.
I'm not much of a collector, so it's unlikely we'll be doing any of that.
I would also be glad to offer you some of my open mindedness and/or realistic outlook on all things Styx if there were a way to transfer them....alas, that too isn't possible.......sorry !

I imagine they didn't sell for the same reasons that the various compilations will never outsell the greatest hits. First of all, you can't beat the track listing on RTP. If you, at the very least, duplicate it with the new lineup, then it's just more of the same old, same old. Even so, there's plenty of repeat songs as it is. And the additional tracks aren't as well known. Me, I'd prefer a new lineup DVD made up entirely of songs that aren't on CITA and RTP.
As far as featuring "The Best Lineup Ever", I believe that was a very subjective description given by our beloved JY. However, if any artist at any time doesn't feel that his or her band's lineup is the best ever, what motivation would there be to carry on? It makes sense that he feels that way, just like every artist should feel that their last album is their best, otherwise why make it in the first place? I don't necessarily think artists say these things with the idea that the fans should think the same way they do. JMHO.

How can you top Return To Paradise eh?? no way, not for an official release anyway. I have a vhs of a show in Pittsburgh 5-7-97 which is fantastic band performance (audience shot of giant screen, on a tripod)looks pro shot, they even do QOS live . I'm sure the venues (or band) must have the master tapes of these shows, clean em up and put them out!!!.
As for other releases, I bought 21st Century Live just for Criminal Mind fantastic song , fantastic performance. These Are The Times could have been better visual wise and KYAG shows just what an incredable showman Glen is , worth the £££ just for them 3 alone

It's also marketing basics. Whether or not he or any other band member feels this is the "best lineup ever", that's what they would say to promote their product.
The reasons a band makes an album vary greatly. Using the logic you presented, should the band have made Kilroy? And yet they did. I'm not looking to turn this into a Dennis equals control freak thing, nor am I saying the band was right or wrong in their feelings, but since they've made them known, perhaps there are more reasons for making an album than just their desire to make their best album. Just my opinion of course.

True. You are quite correct.

Using my logic, should the band have made Kilroy? No. Should Dennis have made Kilroy? Yes.

What if Kilroy HAD been a DDY solo record.
For one thing, 5 of the 9 cuts wouldnt have been there...the ones DDY didnt write.
IMO, it would have killed his solo career before it got started......leading to more Styx music, minus all the theatrics !
OR
It could have been a big hit and spelled the beginning of a great solo career and the end of the classic lineup.
Hmmmmmm............

either way IT was the end of the classic line up. Often wondered the same thing too. But back to the point when DDY was first fired from the group. And DDY had released Babe. No #1 song for Styx. No #1 CD with Paradise. No TMTOMH by Tommy? He said he wrote that the last day of recording for Paradise. would he still have wrote this? Would Styx gone on, been better? Worse? If Styx would have broke up would we be sitting hear reading this? Would we care? Too Much Time On My Hands for sure, and it's making my brain hurt-ERIC
