James Doohan, age 85, famous for his role as Chief Engineer Mongomery Scott on the original Star Trek, passed away today.
Do you suppose he's telling St Peter "beam me up" about now ?
RIP, Scotty..........

Head bowed, hat over heart
Gone is one of American television's most endearing characters.

Oh, how awful. RIP, Scotty.
I'll bet he would have saved Styx from catastrophy too.

How sad. I was reading a little about him. He was part of D-Day in the Canadian army and survived six bullet wounds.
Beam him up. His work here was/is enjoyed by many.

I guess his engines jus' could not take any more ............and his dilithium crystals finaly burned out.
I bet he and DeForest Kelley ( Dr McCoy ) are reminicing right about now....
My all time favorite Scotty Scene came from the 4th movie....the one where they save the Whales on earth.......He's about to share the formula for warp drive with a 20th century scientist in order to get the "glass" to make a whale tank, using the guy's PC, and starts talking to it.....when he realizes 20th century computers cant speak, McCoy hands him the keyboard, and he says...
" A keyboard.......how quaint ! "

You know what I liked and learned from Scotty? Glad you asked , the concept of underpromise and overdeliver.
Catian Kurk - "Scotty we need warp speed in exactly 3 minutes or the Klingons will destroy the ship" Scotty - "Captian the delithium crystals are severly depleted, it will take at least an hour to regain warp speed" Captian Kurk - "Scotty we don't have that kind of time ! you have to get this ship into warp speed in 2 minutes and 41 secounds or were all dead!"
Now the delithium crystals were at 100% and all Scotty needed to do was push a button or flick a switch but he knew how to set himself up to be a hero.

My two favorite Scotty moments.
From the show where he has been in a brawl with some rivals and his reply when asked why he got into such a mess:
"He called the Enterprise a GARBAGE SCOW! .... Sir!"
The other was from the same movie Classic noted, but I loved the scene where they successfully beamed the two whales aboard and Scotty says:
"Captain! There be WHALES here!" With that wonderful smile on his face.
Loved the guy. Loved the show.

Yes, That was from "The Trouble With Tribbles", Good moment...
But I also like Scottys conversation with Chekov...
SCOTTY: When are you gonna get off that milk diet, ladd...
CHEKOV: What!!! This is Wodka (Chekov pronounces his V's as W's at the front of a word)
SCOTTY : Where I come from, that's soda pop..Now this is a drink for a man...
CHEKOV: Scotch???
SCOTTY: Aye...
CHEKOV: It was invented by a little old lady from Leningrad....
And the Quote that set off Scotty...
"I didn't mean to say that the Enterprise should be hauling garbage, I meant to say it should be hauled away AAAAS garbage....."
Moments like that made the show very entertaining...

"He called the Enterprise a GARBAGE SCOW! .... Sir!"
That was a great line, perfectly delivered and punctuated by well timed sound effects/music.
If I remember the scene correctly Scotty refrained from fighting while the Klignons were insulting the captian but lost control when they insulted the ship.

Correct....He actually held Chekov Back when the Klingons insulted kirk but when they started to insult the Enterprise, Scotty replied " Laddie, Don't you think you should rephrase that..." The Klingons rephrased and Scotty threw the first punch...

Favorite Scotty lines:
Scotty: "Try this one laddie!"
Laddie: "What is it"
Scotty opens the bottle:
{sniff sniff}
"It is..."
{sniff sniff}
"It is green!"
_______________________________
Spock, McCoy and Scotty testing a nerve toxin...
Scotty: "Does it go well with Scotch?"
McCoy: "I haven't tried."
Scotty (grabbing the bottle): "I'll let ya know!"
______________________________________________________
Scotty & Spock testing a stun gas. Scotty bolts down a shot of whiskey...
Scotty: "It's for the pain."
Spock: "But Mr. Scott, the gas will be painless."
Scotty: "Oh ya shoulda warned me laddie!"

The above line was "reused" in the Next Generation ep "Relics" where they find Scotty had been trapped in a transporter buffer for 75 years. He is bemoaning the lack of real alcohol, only Synthehol, so Data jumps behind the bar and finds a bottle of real alchohol. When Scotty asks what it is, Data says..."it...it is green". That ep also had a fantastic recreation of the Original Series bridge set. If I recall correctly, the Captain's chair was actually built by a fan for his own use, and the powers that be borrowed it.
Ever since Scotty playing Amazing Grace on bagpipes at Spock's funeral, I have always kinda choked up when hearing it, I am sure it will be more so now.
Full speed ahead Mr. Doohan, your shore leave awaits you.

This was on Spike TV the other night. So did Scotty ever find his way back to his original time?

No. He was given a warp shuttle and set off to explore the galaxy on his own.

Probably the greatest scene in any of the original series episodes! What a great character played by a wonderful actor..RIP
