SPRINGFIELD CHARTS AT 197 WITH NEW COVERS RELEASE:
Rick Springfield's new The Day After Yesterday record was released last week and charted this week at #197 on the Billboard Top 200 with sales of 5049 units.
While we are talking numbers, Styx's Big Bang Theory has sold 40,000 copies to date in the USA, while their Cyclorama is currently standing at 56,000 units sold.
Putting the current melodic rock climate into perspective, the second Damn Yankees album Don't Tread sold 561,000 copies.All stats are Soundscan quoted numbers for US retail sales. Stay tuned for some more interesting US sales numbers coming up.

Cyclorama and Big Bang Theory ?

That number, multiplied by about .75 would give you a head count on how many "die-hard" Carrot Styx fans are out there.

I'd be interested to see how BBT has sold in Europe given their recent tour and the fact that they now have a Europe distributer (Frontiers).

How much more proof do the 2 jug heads need?
Since Dennis was tossed aside the 2 cds they have released have been the worse selling cds in the bands history
Thats not counting the DVD and Rockers and whatever other garbage they have released

The STYX camp is getting unsure of itself thats for sure
There more interested in what Dennis is doing .
If I have my way next year will be a huge year for Dennis .

It is interesting, but for those who frequent this board, it changes nothing. And for me, I still hold firm to the belief that we should all continue to enjoy who we enjoy cuz sooner than later they won't be doing anything.

It would be very interesting to see how the CD sales have been on new music from other arena rock acts from the 70’s and 80’s like Journey, Boston, Billy Idol, Pat Benatar, and Areosmith to name a few, or new singles from greatest hits or live packages from Van Halen, Eagles, Dennis DeYoung, or Motley Crew. Have any of these acts even come close to their numbers from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s? Fans of these artists are happy to have new music from their favorite acts and I think we should all enjoy it while it lasts. Before you know it the oldies acts will be Cold Play, Simple Plan, Black Eyed Peas, Foo Fighters, and White Stripes.

Journey and Styx are in huge trouble
Both acts have no clue of where they are going
Friends of mine who saw JRNY in chicago hated the show
The 45 min of Pre Perry stuff killed the show

I was at the Journey show in Chicago and was not crazy about hearing the 45 minutes of pre Perry stuff but on the other hand had it been a Styx concert I would have loved to hear 45 minutes of songs from the first 4 albums. I was surprised Journey didn’t play the song Saturday Night which is the only early Journey song I know. I’m sure the die-hard Journey fans liked it.

The JRNY show needed Steve Perry to be there
Do 45 min Pre Perry and then bring him out
The crowd would have went nuts
Instead Dean the drummer is singing
Im done with both JRNY and Styx maybe forever

Aerosmith sold their soul through the 90's to stay afloat. They finally go back to their roots for "Honkin' On Bobo (because three members threatened to leave) and it plummets. Maybe the title had something to do with it. But I liked that they tried...that is what a band should do.

None of the bands listed, or even bands like U2 and Bon Jovi (who seem to do very well still) are doing as well now as they did in the 80's. Times are different.

No. But the Crue is doing pretty well because of the 'reunion' push, as did VH for a while. It won't last though. If they do another CD, full of new material, it will not sell much.

Very true, there is enough room for them all. Don't expect a resurgence, but hope for some good music to get your hands on.

Very true, I have the first four Styx CDs but I don't really listen to them. But if I was to go to a show where STYX felt like playing them ALONG with all of their hits, I would be all for it. Some of this is about respecting the bands right to do and play what makes them happy.

Apparantly the crowd still goes nuts when Steve finally starts singing the hits. It is more about the song selection than it is the singer. Journey needed to mix up the setlist more to keep everyone's attention. But I guess this way it's like having an opening act. If you just want the hits, just come to the 2nd part of the show...the headliners. But me, I always wanted to see the opening act as well.

I'm not slagging you froy,but the pre-Perry show would be the only reason for me to see Journey.I loved the 2 first albums.To me ,when Perry joined,yes they became huge,but totally ehhh boring.
Put in another way,if I want syrop,it will be with my pancakes.

I look at things a little differently then some of you. I am more of a fan of the music rather then a fan of the people who make the music. I’m happy with a band that puts music out that I like. I like Styx music, the harmony and structure of a lot of their music is very good. There are songs on Cyclorama that would have fit right in on Pieces Of Eight or Grand Illusion. Same with Journey, there are songs on Generations that to me sound like classic Journey. I’m not saying that I like every new song Styx or Journey releases, I didn’t like every single song on any of their older albums either. But in general I like the sound and style of most of what they have put out past and present regardless of who the band members are.

The new JRNY cd does not sound like classic JRNY 1 bit
There is no anger in that cd its very 1 dimensional
I like Faith In The Heartland and that is it so far
I need to listen to it some more

I am completely the same way, ChicagoSTYX. I have an open mind with all music, I don't hold onto preconceived notions of what Journey or Styx should be. Each incarnation brings something new. some of it good and some of it not so good. It's silly to have one set of members that you classify as "true Journey" or "true Styx". If fans did that with Journey's Infinity lineup, they would not have bought Evolution or Departure. The lineup changed again for ESC4P3, their biggest album ever. Same with various Styx lineups. Some groups stay the same forever, some change as time goes on. Just keep your mind open!

I saw Journey in Milwaukee a few weeks ago. Most of the fans had no clue of the first couple of songs (including me). Once those "hits" were played everyone was standing and having a great time.

I think the new Journey cd is pretty good. Do you want it to sound like "old" Journey? I hope they succeed with this cd. I have nothing against Journey, current, former or the politics. Steve A. sings pretty darn good and I was amazed with Deen's singing and playing of the drums, awesome voice (Froy, AWESOME & AMAZING- LOL)

I'm glad Dennis is going back to the first couple Styx albums and performing a few songs. I became a Styx fan waaaaaaaaaaay back in 1972. I didn't become a Journey fan until the early 1980's. Dennis is going to play songs that make him happy (see my interview).

And the dilemma of diving into the back catalog. How deep can a band go? For any bands core base, they will love the deep cuts, but for the casual fan, they come for the hits

That is one of the things that amazes me about Styx today, granted they get some grief for it, but the medley is designed to give everyone a taste of the back catalog (and hopefully create back catalog sales) but they also add 2-4 songs from their current albums throughout the show. At least if you don't know the song, the next song will be a hit song.

I can't imagine that you would want to start a show with 20 minutes of songs that only a handful of your audience knows. It would make more sense to scatter them throughout the set.

I don't like the medley, I don't like to be teased - LOL I want to hear the WHOLE song, not little snippets.

My 13 year old neighbor and her friends came over and burned my whole Styx catalog. They LOVE Equinox!!! They even saw Carrot Styx at Summerfest, so "technically" this music is new to them. At the Journey concert we were surrounded by "kids". They loved the "old" music - LOL

Did I mention to this group that I can't wait to hear "Pieces of Eight" tonight????

Yeah, I could do with out OA, but the fans demand it and Journey listens to their fans. They listen to the largest group of fans ,not the die-hards, but they did give us the pre-Perry stuff we die-hards had been asking for.

Seems tome Irv is nowhere to be found and that is why Journey has no one telling them 'no'. I personally like what I have heard and seen. But you are right that Irv is MIA. And that is a BIG reason why things have gone the way they have with Journey. Irv, you're the manager, MANAGE JOURNEY!!

Out of all the up-tempo fantastic rockers to be found on Arrival, you choose LOD as "the best song" on the entire album.
"Lifetime of Dreams" is unexceptional maudlin balladry for sentimental pusses.
