For EQUAL, I'd definitely have to say Paul McCartney & Paul Simon.

Good point!

So I guess that rules out Tori Amos too. She's a blockbuster, but Y Kant Tori Read was a joke (an assesment echoed by her).

How bout Neil Young?
Buffalo Springfield was moderately successful for what it's worth :wink:

CSNY was huge.
Young on his own as at least as popular as CSNY. (I personally prefer them as a trio and Young w/ Crazy Horse).

I think Paul McCartney had about equal success, in or out of the Beatles. (I don't have time to look it all up-sorry).

Paul McCartney is HUGE. Still. He's managed to stay on top, unlike his Beatle counterparts, Ringo and George. Even John didn't keep the same status as Paul when he was alive. Paul Simon continued to have massive success for years after he left S & G, unlike Artie, who had one hit (which was a cover song) after the group split up.

AS far as music goes, Paul McCartney can't and Didn't match the Beatles (IMO), But he did write some good solo music....

As far as touring, Paul is still packing them in where ever he goes....
