Styx Trivia - Lorelei

More "useless Styx information"
When Dennis and JY were writing "Lorelei", the song had another title, can anyone name the original song title? (Bugsy, you can't answer it-LOL)
Dennis said that "the original title was changed after "Lady" became a big hit. They wanted a female name in the song title with 3 syllables to go with the verse "let's live together" and they also wanted it to start with the letter "L".

A buddy of mine just had a baby girl and named her Lorelei! I had to smile because he's a huge Styx fan! Just think, had they not changed the name, his daughter might be going by something else - LOL!

No, it's not a name of any person, but great guess.
I don't think anyone will get it, unless it was in an old article or interview. I never knew this before.
At one of the places where I used to work (& in high school), my nickname was "Lorelei" since I loved Styx so much. I run into some of my old co-workers and they still think that's my real name - LOL

I wonder if anyone has ever named their daughter "Lady" I know a few Canine creatures have gone by that name.

OK, according to Dennis, "Lorelei's" working title was "Grande". They decided, as Suite mentioned, they needed a three syllable, alliterative name to go with the two "l's" in "Let's Live Together". So Lorelei was pulled out of thin air apparently.
I think the most interesting interview with any of the three main songwriters in Classic Styx would be the genesis of all the songs on each album.
I'd buy a book that covered that topic for sure.

Does anyone know who wrote the words/music for "Lorelei", between Dennis and J.Y., or did they both write a little of each?

I've always assumed that since J.Y. takes it upon himself to sing this one live, that he at least had a hand in writing the lyrics..
One last note, I really dig the version on "RTP".. That's the last time, in my opinion, the song was really done justice, by either camp.

I recall reading that the song was originally JY's music that he wrote prior to joining Styx. He didn't finish the song, and DDY principally added the lyrics and refined the music. Of course I could be completely wrong! Suite?

If you lived in Chicago back in the 70's you would remember a girl who was the Loop FM 98 's cover girl her name was Lorelei
Im sure they got the name from her in was almost the same year if I remember right

She came after. She was a part of the Disco demolition. Styx' Lorelei was 1975, that was 1979. See link

Look for more meanings of Styx/Dennis songs coming up more and more.
This is from Suzanne's THE CRIB from Dennis' site
Having given one of our daughter's Lorelei as a middle name I am curious if there is any background to the song and its lyrics. I definitely enjoyed the song in its day, I like the name itself, and the mythological background as a Siren of the Rhine is also quite novel/interesting.
Thank you for any/all info.,
Scott
Dear Scott,
The only background I have heard is that the original song was called "Grande" and because of the success of "Lady" Dennis was looking for another 'L' word.
No other information is forthcoming. Neither Dennis nor JY knew anyone by this name. The "Loop's" Lorelei came a few years after the release of this song.
