OT - Music Business Questions

Does anyone care or have questions about the back ground of the music business? I'm curious, especially watching all those Behind The Music's that were on and how a lot of musicians became broke after making millions.

For example, one of the questions I was always wondering about is, who pays for their (each band member) health insurance? Does the record company? The band as a business? Themselves?

If a "roadie" is working for a band like Styx, who pays their paycheck, do they have health insurance? Etc. What about flying to concerts and meals?

I know that a few musicians are "self-employed" and they have to pay their own health insurance.

I use to have a book on how to make it in the record buss. It went over things like that. But that was back in the 80's. I saw a concert Bryan Adams with the Storm, and a Roadie got killed. Right there in front of 12,000+ people. Fell from one of the lighting rigs above the audience. Wondered then who payed for his funeral.-ERIC

Didn't roadies used to belong to a union?
But my understanding is that roadies get paid very little and have no benefits...they do it for the love of the road and the show.
