What? Dennis performs concert dates with a symphony, now Gowan? Huh? I guess it's working pretty good for Dennis.

Where's Carrot Styx for these dates? Say it ain't so......

The Proclaimers - LOL I have to get that song out of my head- La la la la la la la la.

Has Gowan ever performed with a symphony before?

Every week gets more and more interesting with the band Styx and each episode of "Styx of Our Lives" - LOL :?

Well, now, to be honest, DeYoung isn't the first to do this either.

Oh gosh, I know Dennis wasn't the first and won't be the last. I just put "he" in quotations to make a useless point. 8) Is there another trend coming around again with artists and symphonies? Just like all these cover cd's coming up again?

I'm just wondering if Gowan had ever done this before and why he would be doing it now. Is the word "ironic" the right word to use about this, don'tcha think? (I have fellow Canadian Alanis Morrisette's music on my mind-LOL)

Maybe.....just maybe......the "unique instrument" also known as Gowan's voice will work well with orchestration behind it !

I wonder what the rest of his set list will be composed of, after the 10-12 minutes devoted to his 2 greatest hits have expired ?

LOL, your welkome. I tink I speled everyting rite???

Sorry, Froy, I could not resist.

And, when it comes to the subject of Gowan and his "singing", I cannot resist a little zing every now and then. Doesn't mean I don't think he is an ok guy....he just can't SING!

I think Gowan's a really nice guy, but singing "Suite Madame Blue" - UGH. I just can't hear anyone else singing it, well except the singer from the group "Light Up", but no one else. The same goes with the songs "Lady" and "Babe", just Dennis, Dennis and Dennis!! I feel the same for Tommy songs, especially "Crystal Ball", I can't hear anyone else sing that one too, well except for the lead singer from the group "Light Up" - LOL

Classic says:

LOL, I was wondering the same thing. He's promoting his solo work for these concerts and so far not any Styx songs. I know he was huge in Canada back in the day, is he still huge now, musically?

I can't wait until Froy is back - LOL I'm sure he'll have a field day

How silly! Do you need Froy to make a comment? Somehow I thought you were quite good at posting on your own. Come on, have fun without him.

EE, didn't you meet him (Froy) at Festa??? I thought you did.

Adam, you should post more often - I know you miss Froy, you'll be okay.

So what do you think of Gowan doing the Symphony shows?

I am a new poster, although I've read your posts for a bit.

Thought I'd shed some light on Gowan and the KW symphony.

These 2 shows are a one-off thing. Gowan is apparently good friends with the music director @ Centre-in-the-Square and was asked by the director to do this. There is a series of 4 such 2 night concerts, including Roger Hodgson, formerly of Supertramp. I have a pair of tickets for the series.

FYI, Styx played in the same venue in 2000. It has excellent acoustics there. I also had a hand in having Styx play in Kitchener-Waterloo in 1999 at an old venue called Lulu's in front of a sold-out crowd of 3,500.

Gowan may be a nobody outside of Canada, but he is still well known here.

Styxdoc, thank you for posting the information, if you find out any more information, I hope you post it :) I also hope you post a review after the show/s and the set list.

Has Gowan ever played in concert with a symphony before?

I know he's very well-known in Canada and has been nominated and received many awards.

Did you ever hear of a Canadian band called Renaissance (sp?). I interviewed a band by that name in Canada (Toronto) in the early 1990's. I have a lot of pictures of them, I was wondering what happened to them or if any of the members became "somebodies". Gr8dane, do you know?

Okay okay. (Nice to feel encouraged!) My only point was gonna be that I'm almost 100% CERTAIN Gowan has done this "Rock Piano Singer Dude W/ Symphony" thing MANY times before. (Not that it matters, but long before DDY solo w/ orchestra).

And you're right. Dennis is far from the first rock guy to do it (as is Gowan) and yeah, I think Gowan singing Dennis songs is almost always a bit odd sounding. They have very different voices. Although they both share an occaisional helium-toking quality...

Oh, I was waiting for Froy, cuz I woulda BET he'd have pronounced this as further proof of Gowan being a...God, I hate to coin the playground phrase he's so fond of, so let's just say it begins with a "cop", ends with a "cat" and has a "Y" in the middle...

There was that so hard

As for Gowan, hey I wish him well with it. Orchestra/symphony shows have been done before either of them, and will happen after them.

As for Froy...it's not gonna change, so why get so caught up in it.

We like you in our playground. Come out and play more often.

For this post, the part of "Froy" will be played by Classicstyxfan..........

Once again Gowan follows in Dennis futsteps
this guy never had an original thought.
He's just a cheap imitatshun of the real keyboardist of Styx

Even Gowan is tired of the Shaw and JY bandwagon.
It will all be over for Shaw's imposturs by the end of the year.

Bank on it.
