Current Set List - Carrot Styx

Spoiler for those who are going to a show and don't want to see the setlist!!

It seems like almost the same setlist from 5-6 years ago with 2 new cover songs thrown in (and the medley 2 years ago). Is it? If I was going concert to concert I would hope they would mix it up a bit. What happen to "Lights" or songs off of the Carrot cd?

That's my Carrot Styx rant of the day (I'm starting early).

Here's a recent set-list from one of the concerts. I don't know how long they could play at the venue, but it looks the same as other recent concerts:

Blue Collar Man
Grand Illusion
Lorelei
Rag Time Solo - Gowan
Lady
Snowblind
Too Much Time on My Hands
I am the Walrus
Medley
Crystal Ball
Fooling Yourself
Miss America
Come Sail Away
I Don't Need No Doctor
Renegade

I saw them recently and they played all the songs listed here plus:

One With Everything
Find the Cost of Freedom
Can't find my way Home

I also read at Styxworld that they are performing Suite Madam Blue again.

Kansas, I thought they were playing more songs off the Bang Cd, maybe it was a shorter show due to the venue.

CARROT STYX, I know a few of you read these boards, PLEASE, PLEASE, I BEG YOU, DO NOT PLAY "SUITE MADAME BLUE" in concert!!! Play more songs from the mighty Carrot cd!! Just my opinion 8)

UGH!!!

Suite,

The recent concert that I saw, these were the "new" songs:
1. I Don't need no Doctor
2. Summer in the City
3. Find the Cost of Freedom
4. Can't Find My Way Home
5. I am the Walrus
6. One with Everything

6 years ago, the concert I saw included: A Criminal Mind, I Will Be Your Witness, Heavy Water, Brave New World, Everything is Cool, Half-Penny Two-Penny, Edge of the Century (with Mr. Roboto snippet).

5 years ago, the concert I saw included: A Criminal Mind, High Enough, Sometimes Love Ain't Enough, Best of Times, Love is the Ritual, Sing for the Day, Lights.

Suite, I agree with you that the shorter set lists with almost new songs are not as interesting to us "hardcore" fans. Tried to get tickets to DDY's Lost Treasures in Bethlehem PA but they were sold out! :x

When I saw them in 2000, 2001 and 2003 this to the best of my recollection was the set lists

Blue Collar Man
Grand Illusion
Criminal Mind
Lorelei
Half Penny two penny
Lady
Snowblind
Boat on a River
Too Much Time on My Hands
Suite Madame Blue
Medley
Crystal Ball
Fooling Yourself
Miss America
Come Sail Away
Renegade

in 2002, 2003 Criminal Mind was gone and in 2003 Half Penny and and Boat on a River were replaced with Kiss my Ass Goodbye and One with everything and another of of Cyclrama(this was the Classic Rock Main Event tour. 2000 Arch allies and 2002 was with Kansas)

I too would hope for a few older or less well known songs. I wonder how many people at these concerts are seeing them for the first or after a 20 year hiatis 2nd time as opposed to us Styx Geeks?

Thanks for posting these lists everyone.

Here is what I would take out of every show. Grand Illusion, Come Sail Away, Lady.

Put in more from Cyclo and fill in with more from BBT if necessary.

OR -- maybe add Man in the Wilderness or Love in the Midnight or Lights.

NEVER, EVER -- Suite Madame Blue or Queen of Spades.

They have established their own identity. They have erased the memory of the despised Dennis DeYoung for the most part. Time to make a clean break and drop his music from their shows. (Note: They could leave in the medley that has some of his songs because they go by too fast for it to register what they are, but it gives everyone a little link to the past.)

Did you see the "Bethlehem" thread? Talk to stevebuk1, he has front row tickets available (I think they're still available) :)

I still like "Can't Find My Way Home", I wouldn't mind seeing/hearing that one live by Tommy.

I wonder if Carrot Styx is going to do any concerts just for the "hardcore" fans, kind of what Journey is doing, digging deep. "You Need Love" was the very first Styx song that I ever heard, I would love to hear that again. The only thing is, JY's voice changed so much over the years, I don't know how it would sound.

Thanks guys for posting the set lists. :)

Hey StyxfanNH, do you have an area on your site for set lists over the years? I think I have "boots" (shhhh) from 1975-on. That would be great to see how the set lists changed over the years and what songs they NEVER did.

I agree!! NEVER EVER!! UGH  There are just some songs that in my opinion, never be played by anyone else but that artist and those two songs are great examples, with the addition of "Castle Walls" and "Lady" and "Babe" etc. I have the same feeling with "Crystal Ball" too.

Did they ever have "Man in The Wilderness" in concert? Was this discussed already or was it discussed that there was a longer version on one of the cd's. That would be a good addition to the concert, great song.

Ideal for me if I chose the setlist (songs in no particular order)

Everything Is Cool :D
Blue Collar Man
Fooling Yourself
These Are The Times :D
One With Everything :D
Put Me On :D
Lords Of The Ring :D
Mademoiselle
Man Of Miracles :D
Grand Illusion
Witchwolf (Gowan on Vocals?) :D
I Don't Need No Doctor :D
Rockin The Paradise :D
Come Sail Away

Also been listening to the Wooden Nickel CD alot recently. I've always really liked WitchWolf and Man Of Miracles but have also grown to really like:

A Man Like Me

Good setlist, Ross! Well, except for the DDY songs.

I find more and more songs I really like from those early Styx albums thanks to the WN release.

I still think Young Man is one of JY's finest.

I really love 22 Years, too. Basic, good-time rock and roll! :D

They played Man in the Wilderness in 1999, when they first went out with the lineup including Gowan and Burtnik. The show was about 2 1/2 hours long. Many songs including Man in the Wilderness were culled from the list shortly after the tour commenced.

I have a great recording from the 3rd show in 1999.

I think bands should be able to play songs even if the person who wrote them isnt around......I wonder if the following bands still played songs that a member who was not with them wrote...

AC/DC Bon Scott
Triumph Rik Emmett
Asia John Wetton
Black Sabbath Ozzy
Priest Halford
Def Leppard Clarke
Foreigner Gramm
Bad Co Rodgers
Supertramp Hodgson
Yes Wakeman
Queen Freddie
Journey Perry
Kansas Livgreen
Styx DDY
Styx Tommy EOTC Tour
Uriah Heep Byron & Hensley

I dont see the hang up of Styx playing CSA or Lady etc as Dennis did not play all the instruments on the song and I bet Tommy and JY had mega imput on CSA and others just like DDY had an imput of ideas on Renegade, Fooling Yourself etc....as DDY said on Behind The Music.....Styx would not of been as succesfull if it wasnt for Tommy's influence on me, Mine on JY JY's on me ETC.....Just because a guy writes a song it does not mean the people who contributed to it cant play it as long as the writer receives royalties for sales......Styx without Tommy played Renegade BCM etc and I see no problem with that either......

Darren, I see your point, but it's just my opinion on what I would rather hear from the original singer than a "fill-in". These bands can do whatever they want, well, except for the Doors now, anyway because of their lawsuit.

I don't know if the duo (Moore & Levine) from Triumph are even touring or have been touring. That lawsuit between them sounds really ugly - Yikes. Does anyone remember Mike Levine on Wheel of Fortune? LOL I can't see anyone singing Rik Emmett's "songs" either, he has a very unique voice, like Dennis and Steve Perry. Those are "hands off" to me. I'm not sure about Queen right now, I haven't seen them or heard them with Paul singing. Freddie had a very unique voice and stage presence too, almost a "hands-off".

I was okay with Ripper singing with Judas Priest (it wasn't Styx).

I'm okay with Foreigner without Lou Gramm (it's not Styx).

I'm okay with all the bands, they're not Styx!! :)

Thanks for the info Kansas, I would like to hear that.

We have been down this road before. 8)

I did say up there this is my opinion only. They are most certainly not going to pull those songs from their setlist. Many fans love them and do not care WHO sings them.

I happen to care about the ones Dennis sang because his voice was/is so unique. No one else can do them justice. Just my total hangup on this one!

Isn't around nice way to put it
Thrown out would be acurrate and Styx should not even be allowed to set foot on stage without Dennis let alone sing his songs

AC/DC Bon Scott
Died big difference

Triumph Rik Emmett
I don't see any Triumph band singing anything

Asia John Wetton

Who cares

Black Sabbath Ozzy

He can't even talk let alone sing

I dont see the hang up of Styx playing CSA or Lady etc as Dennis did not play all the instruments on the song and I bet Tommy and JY had mega imput on CSA and others

Don't bet you will loose
Lady is credited to Dennis 100 percent just like CSA
Nobody should sing them except Dennis
If you disagree your not a real STYX fan period.

If you send it, I will find the appropriate place to put it.

Be sure to put the date of the show and any other info you may know about the show.

Have you noticed, there are dates as far back as 1972.... ok 1 show in 72 with no date, but there are a bunch in 1973...

Thanks, will do. That means I'll have to listen to every cd and write down all the songs, it will be fun!! :)

Yes, I've seen the updates with the concert dates, GREAT job!! I hope to have more for you to add. I'm hoping to have the 1972 ones, obviously most of those were in the Midwest. I know they played in Milwaukee's lakefront and they went far to South Dakota in 1972. Just have to pinpoint the location and dates.

"bi-polar" ????

It's good to have the both of you back.

You know, there WAS an obscure 70's Dustin Hoffman movie (the title of which escapes me now but it was something like 'Who Is Harry So-And-So And Why Is He Saying Those Awful Things About Me?')...about a semi-celebrity (Hoffman) who was constantly being ridiculed via the media (radio, print, etc) by some unknown, faceless dude...and the big ending was - now cover your ears if 've always planned to rent this movie and don't want to hear the end given away - that it was he, Dustin's character, who was schizophrenically dissing himself.

Yes it's true, I AM Froy.
