This is OFF TOPIC so if you don't care, then don't read it!!

I was laughing at UDO & Dennis in concert or Accept & Styx, but I guess anything can happen. 8)

Metallica Opening For Rolling Stones In San Francisco

Metal band will support rock icons on November 13 and 15 at SBC Park.

by Gil Kaufman

It's been a long time since Metallica opened for anyone, but when it's the Rolling Stones calling ...

The metal giants are still taking an extended break, but they'll cancel their vacation plans for two nights in November to open for the rock legends.

"Over the course of our career we've been fortunate enough to share the stage with a select few of the bands we grew up on, admired and respected including AC/DC, Deep Purple, Guns N' Roses and Iron Maiden," drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement released Tuesday. "The only band that we have never played with but have always wanted to is the Rolling Stones."

The band, along with an additional opening act to be named soon, will warm up the crowd for their heroes on November 13 and 15 at SBC Park in San Francisco. And Ulrich was characteristically excited to share the news with fans.

"Having the opportunity to play with them this November in our hometown of San Francisco is both an honor and a privilege. And it's bound to be a lot of f---in' fun, especially since we haven't special guested since 1992!" Ulrich said. "These shows will enable us to recharge our batteries, both creatively and physically, as we prepare for the next phase of Metallica." The show on the November 13 is already sold out.

A spokesperson for Metallica recently said the band is still taking a break following the St. Anger tour, which wrapped up on November 28 in San Jose, California.

"These two shows are about nothing other than having fun and playing music ... nothing to sell, nothing to promote, nothing to talk about ... no f---in' agenda at all," the band explained in a note on their official Web site. "Simply put, this is the reason we started a band 25 or so years ago, and we are psyched and appreciative of this awesome opportunity to get cracking again ..."

The shows are part of the Stones' A Bigger Bang world tour in support of their upcoming album of the same name, due September 6. As usual, they have gathered a diverse roster of opening acts for the outing, ranging from Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, Pearl Jam, John Mayer Trio and Les Trois Accords to the Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace, Trey Anastasio, Joss Stone and Beck (see "Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5, Pearl Jam Join Rolling Stones Tour").

Hey Suite:
The stones have a history of unusual opening acts. In the 70s Prince opened for the Stones in LA. They threw beer bottles at him. Journey opened for the Stones at Rich Stadium in Buffalo in the 80s, Steve started belting out Open Arms and they booed him off the stage. My buddy was there, and Journey walked off! I also heard Joe Jackson opened for the Who in Canada. Now Joe is a very talented piano player/song writer, I always liked Stepping out and Is she really going out with him, but to open for the who....was not a pretty site.

Thanks LordofDaRing for the information, I had no idea who opened for the Stones. Yes, all those acts are very unusual, especially Prince. Very interesting. Too bad about Journey.

I just found this from Launch site from May 2005: Also rolling with the Stones: Maroon 5, Pearl Jam, the John Mayer Trio, The Tragically Hip and Les Trois Accords, with more opening acts to be announced later, the Stones said Wednesday.

Accept & Styx - LOL I guess once again, "you never know" - just kidding!! Nothing surprises me anymore with music.

Soloud, I can see some of those bands opening for the Stones, but not Metallica. The crowd mix would seem like night and day to me. Would Metallica "tone" it down for the crowd? If I were to see Metallica again, I would want it very loud, hard and very heavy (the music). Just like their old stuff.

Megadeth and Dream Theater are coming to town together, that seems like an odd pairing too. I like them both, but not at the same concert, I think different crowds.

I know the music industry is mixing up bands and music like Nelly (ACK) and Tim McGraw and so on.

How old are the Rolling Stones anyway? I guess I'll have to "google", they're sure getting up there, in their 60's?

Yeah I agree, some of those bands kind of work ok for the Stones...but a different crowd for Metallica. I guess when you are as big as they are (Metallica) you can ask for whatever slot you want and get it

Megadeth an Dream Theater. Odd pairing yes but then again consider that the Gigantour is Dave Mustaine's idea and he considers his band to be huge in the metal scene while DT to be the kings of prog metal. And I think he wanted an alternative to the kinds of bands that Ozzfest presents

I would like to see the tour. Symphony X is the second stage headliner and I like them.

How old are the Stones...timeless and ageless...come on now. They are still around and performing in Futurama. At least their heads in a jar are.

The Neville Brothers opened for the Stones at the Rosemont Horizon in the Fall of '81.......I just wanted them to hurry up and get off the #$@! stage !

Mick and Keith's faces weren't "pruned" yet back then......I remember they opened with Under My Thumb which was much better live than the Studio version....Honestly, I remember little else about the show.....except that I was feeling NO pain !

George Thorogood and the Doobie Brothers opened for the Rolling Stones at the Superdome in New Orleans in the early '80's.

Nice thread..

In 1981, Journey had the #1 album in the world (Escape),and opened for the Stones...and were more or less booed off...Go figure? Were the Stones fans feeling the heat of a new supergroup? Who knows..

Btw, SuiteMadamBlue..I am seeing Styx Wednesday..what notes do you want me to take?

Thanks a MILLION for this information!! I'm in the middle of making a huge surprise for my husband for Christmas. I've been buying tons of Accept stuff from Ebay for the past 5 years and I'm making a huge scrapbook. Wolf's wife, Gabby, even sent a few things. The posters have been framed and will be put up in his office space. All I need is for Accept to start touring the US and I'll surprise him with a meet & greet!!

Also, what happened with the Stones in Toronto today/tonight?????
