"Looks" Then and Now

I have a load of kids over watching the Styx 20th Century Masters DVD. A bunch of them don't think Dennis in the videos is the same Dennis that I have recent pictures of and is the same guy in his Soundstage DVD. They think they are 2 completely different people. The 8 kids here, range from 4 to 16.

What musician's do you think that really changed in appearance over the years, that look totally different?

Funny, I think all of them still look the same! Well, Kevin's hair is shorter...

DDY looks different because of the Mustache.

Have you seen the "guy" from Dead Or Alive!?!
Steve Perry looks very different now because of his hair and clothes.
I saw Jani Lane (Warrant) the other day on Celebrity Fit Club2 and he looks horrible!

How long until somebody mentions MICHAEL JACKSON?!?!

Dennis really changed looks from early 70's and 1981, then cut his hair and took off the 'stache. Wow! What a difference.

If you look at most any male rockers from the 70's or 80's era and look at them now ..... ehhhh....some of them don't look so hot any more. Mostly due to hair loss and/or weight gain. Or hard living.

Some who have really changed looks to me:

Peter Frampton
Mike Reno
Pete Townshend
Ringo Starr
James Young

I agree about Jani Lane. Wow! Looks like he has lived about 10 lifetimes.

Some who have not changed a lot (just don't look at them closely!):

Mick Jagger
Paul McCartney
Roger Daltrey
Bret Michaels
Tommy Lee
Robert Plant
David Coverdale

To name a few.

LOL. I really had to laugh at that....

A few weeks ago there was a "triple play" thing on VH1 Classic. They showed one of the old Styx videos, a song from the Unplugged and then Walrus. From the time of the Unplugged to now, Dennis has dramaticaly changed. It wasn't THAT long ago that Unplugged was taped, was it? Maybe 10yrs ago? The guy looked like he was in his 30's still. Now he is totaly gray and I think he looks over his age...like around 70. I was amazed at how much he has changed after seeing that video.

Angus Young of AC/DC last I saw had a major haircut.

David Coverdale face looks like it is a slowly melting face wax scuplture.

Mick Jaggar along with Keith Richards face looks like it is going through a drought.

Dennis DeYoung went from a long hair rock and roll keyboard player to a Broadway director look.

Paul McCartney must have that Dick Clark DNA because he basically looks the same has he did in his post Beatles days.

In the eye of the beholder, for sure. White hair, but youthful features, in my view.

Coverdale, Jagger and even McCartney? I SAID don't look too closely, LOL!

Jagger and McCartney dyeing their hair makes for a surface difference in my view.

Please, Dennis has aged as well, if not better than most of the band. Tommy may still look like a rocker, and have the hair, but you can tell by looking at Tommy what kind of life he's lived. Dennis started going gray fairly young(I believe sometime in his 20's), I don't blame him for just letting it go, that's a long time to attempt to cover it up. If he still dyed his hair, I'd say he'd still look about the same as the RTP video.. To me, he looks to be about his age, if not a little younger.

Dennis was tired of darkening his hair. I have an interview of him talking about coloring his hair and he finally stopped and now he's happy about it. I'm pretty sure his hair started graying when he was in his 20's.

That reminds me, I have to color my hair before the Rockford show. UGH

Ah yes, Peter Frampton. Totally different. Mike Reno, well, he still looks the same, kind of :)

I didn't recognize Jani Lane right away on the show Celebrity Fit Club, WOW, he totally looks different.

Michael Jackson doesn't count. Ewwwwww

I can't belive how GREAT JY looks for his age!!!!! When I met him after the show in Birmingham I was looking for the signs of plastic surgery!!!!!!!!!! but none
I think Tommy looks fantastic , Chuck looks great for a man with his health problems
Can't agree that Dennis has aged better than most of the band, think it's the grey hair that puts you off

OMG  I just looked at their site. YIKES  What the heck? Way too early in the morning to figure out if that's a guy or girl or a cross between both or what.

Meatloaf looks totally different too from "then" until "now".

People look so different too looking up close and without make-up. I met Paul Newman some years ago and I didn't recognize him right away since he didn't have his movie "make-up" on.

I have to disagree with you about JY. I would bet money that JY is having something done. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Tommy looks like he needs more sleep, I still think he looks pretty good for his age over all (I miss his music) and I totally agree about Chuck!! He does looks GREAT for a man with his health problems.

I guess my point wasn't that Dennis has aged better, just not really any worse. I think if you can get beyond the gray hair, which I understand is a little hard to do, he doesn't really look bad for his age.

I agree that J.Y. hasn't aged too badly.. I don't really know about plastic surgery, I'd never really thought about it.

I haven't seen Chuck lately, but going from the last time, he also has held up pretty good.

I feel kinda bad for Jani Lane, he's really not a bad guy, and it's obvious he's in a pretty bad place. I actually met him in a Waffle House once. It was about 2am, and my best friend (who is a huge Warrant fan) spotted him out, and went over and talked a little, and got an autograph on a napkin.. It's obvious he's lived a pretty rough lifestyle, which I'm sure has made a difference, but you know, age is going to hit us all..

They may not look as good as they once did, but you have to admit, it sure seems like they dress a lot better these days! LOL! (At least I'm hoping Tommy doesn't wear jumpsuits anymore or JY that ridiculous-looking white outfit with the Jedi boots).

How bout Keith Richards? Man has not aged in the last 30 years. Of course, he looked 106 back then too! Aside from Ozzy he has to win the most incoherent interviews.

Well they are in their early 60's. I don't think they all aged that well.

Did you know that Donny Osmond is 47 and he's a Grandpa???? (His daughter-in-law should have had the baby this month).

Donny Osmond a Grandpa - WOW  ????? I feel so old!!

ek, I love watching the "old" videos of Styx and seeing what they were wearing during those times - LOL

Speaking about looks, what I don't understand is why for recent concerts, the pictures or promo's that are being used are the ones that were used years and years ago.

For example, I was checking out the concerts coming to Milwaukee area, I noticed that for Lou Gramm, the picture is from the 1980's and for Loggins and Messina, the picture is from the 1970's. Is it the station? Is it management sending it out? Sheesh!! Get with it, you can't go back in time!!!

Off my soapbox for now

It's the promoters/record companies/management trying to connect with the visual memories we all have when the bands were "popular" and knowing that we all remember people from when we last saw them and not what they look like today some twenty years later.

Ditto, styfanNH, I've even seen some concert T-shirts for older artists with band or individual pictures from when they were in their prime. Makes no sense to me, but that's just personal preference. I prefer to live in the present.

Holy Cow PsychoSy!!! That guy from Nazareth really changed over the years! So far he's in the top place for the most different look from "then to now". I liked the comments you added too - LOL

Bugsy, as usual, thanks for the pictures of Dennis through the years :) I like Dennis' look during the Main Event years, like my MS messenger picture. :)

Ash, you're just teasing me right? Mike Reno's great :)

I'm sure someone can post the early picture, here's one from 2 years ago. Hopefully you'll be able to see the picture.
