THE FINAL PARADISE

Postby yogi » Wed Aug 17, 2005 11:49 pm

We are back and upacking in our old home. Damn it is good to be home!! I am now a 40 mile one way drive from my place of work. But to be home is well worth it!!

The gas prices are going to KILL me. Come on George W. whats up with this????? My solution to this problem would be that gasoline can NOT be purchased with ANY type of credit card. If you had to pay cash or check for all gasoline purchases the prices would come back down in a HURRY!! Now to Styx...........

My long commute has allowed me the time to do ALOT of music listening. Upon listening to a booted copy of Styx's Paradise Theatre concert in Japan all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! What an AWESOME concert!! They were the GREATEST band in rock and roll back then.

Recently Bugsy sent me an awesome DDY radio interview that was recorded in Florida back in June. What a GREAT interview Dennis gave!! Hearing his insight on punk rock, current music, The Romones, Iggy Pop, his marriage, fame, baseball, children, Journey, Foreigner, REO, Kansas, The Eagles, current Styx, old Styx etc was just awesome. This was by faaaarrrrrrr the best radio interview I have EVER heard. What a GREAT intelligent, humerous, TALANTED, insightful, classy guy Dennis is.

Keep the current band intact, but BRING BACK DENNIS!!!!!!!!!!!!! & Glen!!!

The Yogmeister returns! Welcome back and hope all is well with you, Mrs. Yogi and the little Yogites.

I listen to a lot of music in my driving around as well. Styx always entertains. Lately it has been the WN collection. Some GREAT music on there. I am so amazed some of these songs were not bigger hits: You Need Love, Winner Take All. Really surprising to me. They had "hit" written all over them.

And though it was not the stuff hits were made of, I find I am more impressed with the song Young Man the more I listen to it. It is very relevant today. JY really nails the vocals. And that DDY keyboard break is one of, not only his, but ANYONE's best ever.

Glad you are all settled in Yogi.

Yogi,

I know how you feel about the commute. But hey, I am sincerely happy that you are back at home. And hey, I live in Chicago...so I know all about the gas price nightmare.

It was indeed a great interview from Dennis. Glad you got to hear it.

I wish they were back together, I miss the harmonies and "my" Styx music that once was. But in reality it wouldn't work out. JY would never allow it to happen. I can see a DeYoung/Shaw reunion and a few songs sung on stage, in the near future

I disagree with you Suite. JY is WELL aware that he is the ONLY member that has been on and at EVERY Styx recording and concert. NO other member can make that claim.

Dennis pretty much stated on the Florida radio morning show CD that Bugsy sent me that between He, JY and Tommy the majority will rule on matters of Styx and carry the name of Styx. He said something like he couldnt comment more without entering witness protection.

If the courts have ruled that the contracts they have all signed state majority rules and if Dennis and Tommy get together again then they could claim the name Styx.

I believe NO matter what (acting like a 3 year old) personal feelings JY has toward Dennis he would jump through ANY hoop to have his legacy state that he ( JY) has been on EVERY Styx album and at EVERY concert.

Interesting point. I think it depends on what JY values more. Good, bad, or otherwise, JY seems happiest away from DDY in the mix. If that's more important to him than keeping the "Styx legacy", I don't know that he would want to set foot on stage with DDY again.

And how the ownership of the name is divided...who knows.

I honestly don't see JY wanting Dennis involved. I see Tommy doing what he thinks is in his own best interest. If that means working with Dennis again, yeah I could see him doing that...just as I could see him opt not to.

I think at this stage in their lives, they could all just decide that the current lineup will be the last and take on other ventures. Compromise doesn't seem to be much of an option lately.

So hey, we all for the most, are making the best of both sets of entertainers. And I think that's all we can do.

Sadie can help me out here (please), she always knows what to post and what I'm trying to say - LOL

I'm not saying that Dennis and Tommy will tour as "STYX", they will have a "reunion" as DeYoung & Shaw on a stage. I'm trying to say, I'm pretty sure that Dennis - Tommy - JY - Chuck will never be on the same stage ever again. JY will not allow this to happen. From the research that I've been doing, I doubt Styx will be in the Rock in Rock Hall of Fame with Dennis, Tommy, JY and Chuck still on earth with us.

They were passed over for a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, that's pretty sad especially with the yahoo's that were "inducted" this year.

I'm so frickin' sick of the politics of the Entertainment Business and that's what it is - to get into any "Hall of Fame". You tick off one or two people over the years and the name Styx is tarnished.

I'd love to see Tommy and Dennis perhaps even pen a few songs without trying to "be" one thing or another. Thats the tack that Tommy and Jack Blades took - perhaps they could just get together and write music that is good music regardless of what "kind" of music it is. Hell - I'd listen to country done by these two guys - IF IT WAS GOOD music.

As for JY - good riddence. He's not written a good song since Eddie anyway - he can rot in obscurity for all I care.

If Tommy and Dennis were to do something like this outside of Styx... I would likely jump for joy first that they would be willing to work together - but secondly they could take steps to repair a relationship that has been damaged for a very long time. I think they'd need to check their preconceived notions of what kind of music they should write at the door - and worry about making good music.
