At this posting StyxFanNH and son have already seen one Styx and REO show. Tonight StyxFanNH will be in Hamburg, NY FOR SHOW #2 of Styx and REO. Tomorrow both StyxFan and Onestilllearning(and daughter) will be in Gilford, NH for Styx and .38 Special. Sunday will bring all of us to Hyannis, MA for An Evening with Styx at the Capecod Melody Tent.

I am so happy my 13 year old daughter is still a Styx fan and looking foward to the shows. She has been influenced by her older evil cousin to be a Rap and Hip Hop fan and I am trying not to be an uncool Dad and forbid her from any type of music as this can often be the very thing that makes it more compelling (forbiden fruit). But who can argue against the kick ass performance of real talent. Both .38 Special and Styx should help in my fight for music at it's best.

Froy I understand that you are not a fan of the current Styx line-up but two parents sharing the music and memories of thier youth with thier childrenis a wonderus and fun thing. Please wish us well on this occaisan. I would love to share DDY with my daughter but this is not possible. Danielle is a huge DDY fan and would side with you on many issues but we are going to share the music and each others company. I was and am excited to be accompaning my little girl and posted this becouse this is a forum I enjoy. Your words of sarcasim really took the wind out of my sails. In fact you managed to make me feel both angry and sad. Words my friend even on a BB can be hurtfull. Maybe I should not bother with my concert reviews.

If you want to share something with your children take them to see Neil Diamond not a fake version of STYX they will enjoy it and remember it forever. To try and pass off this version of Styx to your children is not being fair, You can say to them yes kids its almost like seeing Dennis as they scream to go home when Gowan starts to sing Lady .

ACK - Rap and Hip Hop, I wish that "music" or whatever it's called would just fade away. I see that more and more radio stations are going back to 80's rock music, thank goodness.

My kids are huge Styx fans, they can't get enough of "Mr. Roboto". My oldest son's favorite song this week is "Paradise".

I hope you post your reviews. Since Carrot Styx will be with .38 Special, I'm curious to see which songs they'll take out for their show. It sounds like they'll be adding a few more cover songs to the shows out East.

I don't understand how they can keep "Lady" in the setlist, that's one song that I wish they would really drop. Just my opinion.

Froy - My daghter is a very intelligent and opinionated young lady., she enjoys the performance of TS and JY as well as the musical abilities of some of the replacement players. Finally got an internet connection.

Both shows in NY were great, awesome, unbelievable. Split show with REO means the 90 minute set was intact for both bands. They are still pushing BBT in the set and live the songs are great.

The guys are absolutely having a great time together and it absolutely shows in their performance. They are taking some liberty with songs and are getting away from the "stock" playing of the songs and it is really adding to their performance.

It is apparent that they are expanding the fanbase as there are more and more High School/College kids at the shows. And they are eating up the shirts at the booth at $30 a pop.

And Chuck is with them through Hyannis.

Not hardly. I am consistant in what I say. I don't care for how JY and TS handled things, nor do I care for this lineup. I also understand that this forum is split amongst a variety of people who don't hold the same opinions that I do, and as such, I respect time and place, along with the rights of others to disagree with me. You allow no such dialogue. In this case you shot down something that was important to the poster, simply because you cannot respect that people make choices that you don't agree with. You've made your position known for so long now, what was the point in saying it again here? Why not just let the man have his moment? But of course, that would be unfair to you now wouldn't it?

He turned nothing into a soap opera. He wanted to share his excitement about going with his daughter to a concert. If you weren't interested in that, then you had no need to jump in. You did, with the express idea of riling him and others up. If you truly believe we are all so incapable of remembering your stance on the band and it's changes in personnel, then I'd suggest you reread the posts. We all know your position. Quite often I hold my tongue with you because you simply aren't worth all the aggravation. I "jumped to his aid" because I felt (and still do) that your post was unnecessary and he indicated it hurt him. The one turning anything into a soap opera is you.

As for the set list and paid supporters...get a clue...I have access to the same info that you do. Ever intentionally watch a rerun on television? Ever listen to the same song more than one time? Like it or not, other people apparently do enjoy seeing the band...even when they perform the same material. Your elitist attitude that because it isn't the lineup you endorse means they (those fans) are nothing more than paid pumpers is laughable at best.

And because I am sure that the other readers on this forum are tired of this garbage continuing, I'll let it go. Should you ever accept that sometimes reality isn't pleasant, it might be easier for you to ler go...but I won't hold my breath on that happening.

I took my teenagers to see Styx a couple of years ago at an outdoor venue. I have to tell you I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. There was such a wide spectrum of ages in the audience. There were many 40+ (of which age group I am in) but also teenage and college age. They put on an amazing show.

The Styx guys were at their best and the crowd sang every song that was played and never seemed to stop dancing! My kids couldn't wait to get their t-shirts and proudly wore them the next week to school. Not one person in the crowd seemed to be affected negatively as to this current lineup on stage.

Enjoy every moment you can with your daughter sharing Styx music or otherwise. These are moments that will be cherised for the rest of your lives. Such a shame that anyone would want to put a negative spin on such a wonderful time to share with your daughter.

Don't let the hateful words of one stop you from sharing your Styx experience with those of us who look forward to hearing about it!

Yea you saw a cover band instead of the real thing.

Yea they did the Safety Dance with the midget in the field running through the village.
We can dance if we want to we can leave our friends behind and if our friends don't dance then there no friends of mine.
Tommy dressed up as the midget and JY and him ran through the crowd singing the song

Its not the one person in the crowd that was afffected it was the 10 thousand that did not show up .
If Rickie Phillips went out and toured as Styx there would be the uneducated that showed up just because it said Styx on the ticket,

They played the same setlist from the past 2 years
They ran back and forth to make it look like they were into it
Tommy said as long as Gowan is buying and JY had a face lift
there thats the review,

With a little more time on my hands,

Three shows down and 1100 miles later on my car, the shows are great.

Days 1 & 2 were with REO. Rochester had Styx open for REO. Hamburg had REO Open for Styx. Both had 90 minute sets on both nights.

Day 3 had 38 Special as the opening act. They played about 75 minutes with Styx at the 90 minute set. Start time was a half hour later than the other shows.

Say what you want, but no two shows are the same, regardless if they are the same songs by title. If you want the same interpretation of the song, buy the cd or spin your old vinyl.

Rochester looked like it had about 6,000 people there, Hamburg had about 7,000 and Gilford had about 7,000.

All 3 shows have been high energy shows and the interaction between the band members and the audience continues to create the bond that keeps these guys going. It is obvious that they love where the band is today and where it is going. Their fans love the shows, this one included.

Like it or not, Larry is stepping out as a main presence in the band and the idle talk of where is Dennis has all but disappeared, at least at these three shows. My guess is that there are less people in the audience that have not been to a recent show in the last several years. This was evident when Tommy does his bit asking people whether they have been to a Styx show before. Something else to think about is that the entire run of high school and college kids that have been cultivated over the last six years, have never seen a DDY/Styx show and only know Larry.

Larry's renditions of Doctor and Walrus are simply amazing. With Doctor being even higher energy than it is on BBT

Chuck's now doing three songs in the set - Fooling Yourself, Come Sail Away and Renegade. It still amazes me the pop he gets when Tommy introduces him. He seems to be a bit more involved with the songs, taking to the mic during CSA, really traveling the stage and interacting with the fans.

They seem to have stretched some of the songs in the medley out a bit more than I remember from last year and seem to be showcasing the talents of each member more than in the past.

Todd is amazing. If your into drummers, than he is a pleasure to watch.

Tommy and JY vocals were great. For those that have bashed JY's vocals here, in concert you would never know there was any difference or tail off. They both simly have better control on their voices and that may be the difference. And the guitar playing is great.

The sound was great at each show was fine. The better of which was at Gilford. But with that said, it was really an issue with the venue that had anything to do with the sound. Rochester was pretty open, Hamburg was a true outside event as the stage was on a race track outside and had no way to control the sound once it left the speakers. Gilford is designed for the show and lets the music be heard very well.

This trip has been great and it will come to conclusion tonight. It's not just the music I go for, its the friends I've made. But mostly it's about spending time with my son, sharing time and similar interests at a time when it really isn't cool for a 14 year old to be "hangin" with dad anymore. At least for these few days, its cool for him to be with me and the issues of growing up are put aside.

Again for those that hate this line-up, these performances won't change your mind. But those that embrace this line-up have truly enjoyed themselves. This is what a rock show is supposed to be like.

First of all, NH, I am very happy you and your son have had a wonderful time at all these shows. It is cool to meet up with friends, no question, who share your enjoyment of the experience.

Like it or not, Larry is stepping out as a main presence in the band and the idle talk of where is Dennis has all but disappeared, at least at these three shows.

My feeling is the true DDY fans are not going to these shows, so this is NO surprise to me. What is left are fans who know the Classic Styx, but like this lineup as much or more, and the newer fans who truly have no clue who Dennis is other than being a voice on some Styx albums they have bought prior to Cyclorama.

Larry's renditions of Doctor and Walrus are simply amazing. With Doctor being even higher energy than it is on BBT

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that the name "Styx" is now associated with songs they never wrote? And that new fans are rocking out to, and singling along with, tunes that are covers of other artists' work? Maybe it is just me and I am old fashioned. Styx was known for its amazing shows which presented THEIR music with near perfect, studio quality. This is what they prided themselves on.

That said, I am not going back on my statement that they need to take the Dennis sung songs out of the performance. There are more than enough TS and JY "Styx" songs to cover 2 or more hours of concert time.

The sound was great at each show was fine. The better of which was at Gilford. But with that said, it was really an issue with the venue that had anything to do with the sound.

Sadly, this is the case with lots of touring acts now. Dennis has had his problems with sound quality as well. It goes with the territory.

Again, nothing beats seeing concerts in the company of friends, family and fellow fans.

I've seen Carrot Styx a few times and to me they seemed like the same shows, exactly to the comments made between songs, in fact it was the same people in the front 3 rows show to show - LOL

I've seen bands that changed a few songs or two, especially when they were coming back to the same city or playing an hour away the next night.
