Popular Band - Question

If you have time, put these bands on how you think they rank with popularity, from back then and today.

Which band was the biggest during "their" time?

Which band do you think is recognized more world wide?

If you took the main lead singer from each of these bands, Dennis, Steve P. Kevin and Roger and had them perform on the same stage, which order would you put them in today? The closing singer would be the biggest attraction.

In the US, Supertramp is hardly known. A couple of their songs, sure. But the band, not really.
Styx and REO, almost interchangeable. But I would give the edge to Styx. More talent, more well-known songs, a lead singer with a household name.
But I would have to say that Perry is better known than DDY, and Journey were bigger than Styx commercially.

In the UK during the bands prime years...

SUPERTRAMP
STYX
JOURNEY
REO


Supertramp had a massive following and when they played a few years back without Hodgson they still played arenas.

Styx played 10,000 seater venues on the Paradise Theater tour....

Journey have always had a UK cult following but there insistance to not tour the UK cost them and REO had top 10 UK hits from the Hi-Fidelity album but again refused to tour.

Its touring on the back of succesfull albums what made a band more popular in the 80s......not so much now as each of these bands probably would not muster 250,000 units between them.....how times change. I wish it was 1980 again.

In popularity in the US I would definitely go :

Journey
Styx
REO
Supertramp

On a concert bill I would say the performance order would probably be the reverse -- Supertramp going first, REO second, etc.

I truly think Styx could probably have traded off with Journey has to who would go last.

In their heyday, of course :wink:

Journey
Styx

For a concert

Supertramp

and Journey and Styx alternate the closing spot

As for the lead singers, I know that Steve P. isn't out touring and Kevin is still with REO, Dennis and Roger are out there touring.

Okay, let's just say the 4 of these guys will be at one show, one night, what order would you these 4 guys in. Think of their hits, think of their names up there and think of how popular THEY are to the public, die-hards and casual radio fans.

Think Today, right now!

Here's my order:

Kevin Cronin and the Music of REO (just music, no talking - LOL)
Roger Hodgson and the Music of Supertramp
Steve Perry and the Music of Journey
Dennis DeYoung and the Music of STYX

I would love to add Rik Emmett to the mix, but I think these 4 bands were pretty similar during their heyday.

Any other thoughts?

That, and the fact that the last time he toured was ten years ago. And, Perry wouldn't do it unless he was last.

Perry would steal the scene and then fade away. Just like he always does.

It would be nice if Dennis and Steve could share the stage and share the band (Dennis' band, ya have to have Kyle) :P

Then they could mix "their" hits. That would be kind of neat.

Has that ever been done before at a concert?

Doesn't anyone think that Steve would come out one more time?

Would Steve come out 1 more time ?.....I didnt know he was gay.....

Can you imagine Dennis and Steve touring together....

Everytime Dennis sang the chorus to High Crimes.....HIp Op Hip Op Hip Op......Steve would punch him out as he would think Dennis was poking fun of him......

I like Lou alot, but sadly I think his voice has not survived his travails. I feel very badly about that.

But if he could be included (and his voice were up to snuff)

Honestly, every once in a while someone says on one of the Journey forums that they thought Steve Perry died of AIDS.
