Another "22 Years" Question

Okay, I know John C. wrote this song, and Dennis and JY are the singers.

Does anyone know if it was just Dennis and JY singing in the early concerts? I'm listening to another live version and I think I'm hearing an additional voice that doesn't sound like Dennis or JY.

Anybody?

I can't answer your question, but I've always wondered why John didn't sing on that one. I guess they decided J.Y. and Dennis blended better, but if it was just meant to be an album track, not issued as a single or anything, you'd think they'd let the person who wrote it do part of the vocals..

With the band STYX, I've been wondering lately why the primary songwriter didn't sing a few of their own songs too.

I'm wondering if Tommy added vocals in the song in concert when he recently joined the band. I just played it again and I still hear an additional voice, strong, on this song.

I'll have to add this to the questions :)

The (live) version I have the order of singing on the solo parts is:
Dennis, JY, Dennis, Tommy. I think all three harmonize.

Good Morning Bugsy, you're up nice and early :)

Ahhh, I thought so. I played it over and over last night.

The original version is just Dennis and JY, right?

I really miss all their harmonies

Bugsy (or anyone), what did you think of hearing "You Need Love" live from way back when? I know JY is the singer on it and to me it's my favorite JY sung song, what do you think if Dennis sang this song live now? (Try saying that fast 3 times in a row-LOL)

I personally don't think JY has the voice to sing it live anymore, not that song anyway.

Yawn! Gotta get up early. Things to do. I have a trip to take in a few days!

I noticed I have an older live version of 22 Years and it was just Dennis and JY on that one.

I really love "You Need Love." They sound so young and ready to take on the world with that song to me. Great guitar work on it.

I think Dennis could sing this one, or any song, now. JY? I don't know.

EXACTLY!!! The live versions I have are from about 28 years ago. I'd say STYX was in their hey day about 1979-1981, right? I'll go somewhere with that after a few more songs - LOL

Anyway, the song that I really like hearing live now is "Born For Adventure"!! I love the live versions better that the original.

It's too bad, because I'm pretty sure that's one song Dennis will never do live again. The other being "Unfinished Song". But than again, anything can change.

In my opinion Born For Adventure was the best song Styx EVER did, and Side Two of Equinox has NO equal. I agree with you Suite on the live version. That song ABSOLUTELY ROCKS live. The King Biscuit version I have is AWESOME!!!!

If there is ONE song Dennis should add to his set Born For Adventure should be it.

Please ask him why he doesnt add this song??
Is he anti women, whiskey & sin???
Was what has happened to him misfortune or fate???
We can all ask ourselves that question from time to time!!!!

What an AWESOME song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did, it's because of the lyrics that he won't perform it at this time in his life.

God no, not anti-women - LOL Whiskey and Sin, at this age in his life I would probably say "to each his own". I'll get a quote about this for you :)

Was what has happened to him misfortune or fate???

Damn, I wish I had this for my tv interview, this would've have been a fun subject to talk about. This song and the lyrics and how he feels today.

We can all ask ourselves that question from time to time!!!!

Don't ask a woman if they're going through a "mid-life crisis", bad timing
