OT_Gas Prices....Holy Smokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what's going on nationally, but in Charlotte we are having gasoline anarchy! Gas has gone up $0.60-$0.70 today alone. This morning it was business as usual, but my mid-afternoon most gas stations had lines out into the streets and now the pumps are already running dry. I filled up on the way home and had to get premium @ $3.19 and I couldn't fill up my gas cans, only the car.

I certainly hope it's going better elsewhere, and I know we still have it better than those in LA and MS.

Hope everyone does better and we can get back to bickering about DDY -vs- Gowan or something equally meaningless.

Scott

I had both vehicles filled up on Monday when the prices were $2.62. In town where I live, we're up to $2.75 today, down in Milwaukee, it's about $3.02 today.

The prices will keep rising. Thank goodness I'm carpooling for the Rockford show - UGH

Well, this is the new reality........dont expect to see the prices go lower until next year at the earliest.....I heard talk that gas could spike all the way up to $4.00 per gallon before things get back to normal.

Driving to Rockford and back for the DDY show this weekend may end up costing more than the tickets !

Having this bb as a hobby is startting to look like bargain entertainment !
I guess what they say about talk being cheap is truer than ever......

Now that's gouging !!!!

How sad.

Of course so is the looting, flooding, dying, etc going on on the Gulf Coast
this week.

Can anyone explain to me why no new refineries have been built in the US in the past 25+ years ??? Seems criminal to me that we are in this position where 1 natural disaster can have this effect on the entire nations supply.

Blame the Sierra Club and other enviromentalist groups which, at the time, seemed like they were doing the right thing in fighting the building new refineries. There have been after all some unforseen events go on in the past few years. Its like the perfect storm of events to spike gas prices. Also if you look at a chart of price adjusted gas prices we are in a normal high cyclical spike, if you can believe that.

I hope everyone finds the means to get through this, maybe this board will go a little way in doing that.

Have a great night everyone, I hope all stays well,

Scott

Suite,

It's all about suppply and demand.....It will take a major lifestyle change to effect change.

At least we have cars to put gas into and a house to go home to. Be thankful for what you have. Just watch a few of the news channels for not even a half hour...you won't be complaining about the price of gas.

The operative word here is "demand." Until we American's can curb our demand for the fossil fuel, it will only get worse -- supplies and prices.

Bravo! Well said, WG! Perspective!

I wonder if it's only me, but............................

I find myself starting to think of ways to save/conserve money, since the price of gas it going to be taking a bigger and bigger chunk of my disposable income. HOWEVER, there's not a lot I can do to reduce my gasoline consumption...where I can drive less, I will, but the vast majority of my driving is to/from work.

If everyone else is thinking the way I am, it's NOT a good sign for the
state of the economy, because I'll be eating out less, and making fewer discretionary purchases.

Not in this case. Even a simple change like using ethonal would lower gas prices. In Brazil they use a 40% ethonal blend and manufacture ethonal and sell it at $25/barrel. They even have ethonal fuel blends and engines for aircraft. They even export it to other contries to lower fuel prices.

But, will we IMPORT ethonal? No. We have a tarriff of $25 barrel so it is not much cheaper, and normaly more expensive, then crude oil. And, our ethonal blends are only a small fraction of the gasoline, as little as 3%. If we put $25 tarrif on imports of crude oil, people would scream - and rightfuly so.

and, ethonal is just ONE example of this.

So, it's NOT a major lifestyle change. It's a simple POLITICAL change...one of not putting so much support towards major oil companies, Saudi Arabie, and special interest groups....and putting our security and economy first...and doing what is obviously the right thing. Bush hasn't done that with this issue from the moment he took office.

Thanks gr8dane for the information and also styxmike, holy cow didn't know it was that expensive in the UK!!

I have plans to see a concert up in Orillia, Casino Rama.

Thanks for the advice on beer, but I don't drink any alcohol, well maybe tonight I'll start - LOL

I really can't stand beer. I wish I liked it since we usually get it free, but I don't like the taste. I used to like the fruity drinks, but now I just drink them without the alcohol.

Hey Gr8dane,

I'd like a two-four of Elsinore please. :D

It is rather amazing the effect the gas surge has had on people. With no disrespect to the tragic events on 9-11, people here in Charlotte panicked MORE because of this. I am glad to see that many of the evacuees are making their way here. We have three arenas here and they are thankfully using the largest as a temporary shelter, the thought being that the people who come here are just going to stay here.

They are asking for volunteers here, so my son and I will probably make a trip over to help. At least now I feel like something positive is finally starting to happen.

Maybe you should try a shandy.
Anyways, what show is it you are catching??
A warning, using the road network around and through Toronto to get to Casino Rama can be very packed and very slow during rush hours.
Orillia is about 2 hours north of Toronto. That can be a 3 hours trip on a bad day.

I have no clue what a shandy is - LOL

I'm planning to see Roger Hodgson, he'll be up there with an orchestra. I'll probably see him for two nights and hopefully get in a Poker tournament too :)

Dude, you get beer for free? OMFG!!

Also, sure, the first few sips, chugs or even first glass might taste like shit, but trust me, it gets better.. Girls look a lot better after 3 hours of pounding brewskies..especially Canadian Beers.
