Green Day mints quadruple platinum 'Idiot'

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Green Day's latest album, "American Idiot" has been certified quadruple platinum for U.S. shipments in excess of 4 million copies by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Released in September 2004, the self-described "punk rock opera" is the second best-selling album of the band's career. Its 1994 breakout "Dookie" earned a diamond award in 1999 signifying U.S. shipments of more than 10 million copies.
Reaching the triple-platinum level in the trade group's August certifications was hip-hop superstar Jay-Z's 2003 set "The Black Album." Newly minted-double platinum discs were the 19th and latest "Now! That's What I Call Music" compilation, country artist Keith Urban's 2004 release "Be Here" and veteran rock act Styx's 1995 "Greatest Hits."
Titles tipping the platinum scale for shipments of 1 million copies were Crossfade's self-titled Columbia debut, Gorillaz' "Demon Days," R. Kelly's "TP.3 Reloaded," Reba McEntire's "Room To Breathe," My Chemical Romance's "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge," "20th Century Masters: The Best of the Temptations" and the Ying-Yang Twins' "U.S.A.: United States of Atlanta."
