Lyrics - "Hello God"
Hello God

Though you’re a million miles away
do you listen when I pray
can you hear me.

Just a nod
I don’t need no holy sign
like turning water into wine
just to please me.
Cause I know I’m just a tiny speck
in your great big universe
and I’m not the kind of guy
who quotes your word chapter and verse
but I sure could stand to hear from you tonight

Hello God
I don’t mean no disrespect
but I thought I’d call collect
in case you’d answer
you see it’s odd
cause I’ve been feeling mighty weak
so I’d love to hear you speak
if you could sir

And I know you’re wondering why it took so long for me to call
well I must confess I’m quite a mess
and I’m headed for a fall
so I sure could stand to hear from you tonight

Chorus:

Hello God
I’m over here
all my faith
is lost in fear
I’ll need your grace
to help me journey on
cause I never felt so small
Hello God. Hear my call

Bridge:

All of my life I know I’ve been blind
standin here alone on the shore
lookin for a light to point the way
to prove to me somewhere there was more

Hello God
it’s only me
I’m like a ship
who’s lost at sea
I’ll need your grace
to help me journey on
cause I never felt so small.
Hello God,
hear my call

Dennis DeYoung

Dennis sure can write some strong lyrics
This is the soundtrack to Katrina
I see the montage in my head.
This should be all over radio right now

Tell that to Elton John who redid Candle In The Wind for Pincess Diana
Of course the money raised goes to the people who need it

Coming for ANYONE else that posts here I would say GREAT!!

Your orginal post said NOTHING about Katrina victims. The cause you were referring to was getting Dennis back 'all over ' the radio.

Your post had NOTHING to do with raising money for these poor people that had their lives destroyed!!! As usual it was ALL ABOUT your twisted idolism of DDY!!

As much as I dislike the song, it does have a good message under these circumstances.

Yes, this song "Hello God" does have a good message especially during the circumstances. I also feel the same way with "Show Me The Way". I'm sure if there was any benefit for the Hurricane, Dennis would be right there with the proceeds. In Green Bay, Dennis gave all the profits from his merchandise for the new Marquee for the theater in addition to the money he raised from his show.

Just like the other songs that will be played tonight on MTV, VH1 and CMT, there will be a mix of artists young and old.

Dennis has done a PSA (Public Service Announcement) for Clear Channel Radio last week regarding the Hurricane and how to help. A lot of musicians/artists were called, some didn't even return phone calls. From what I heard on the radio, Dennis went above and beyond. Hopefully I can get the link or somehow have it posted here.

Yes, I think it's a great song and no, it would not be nice to have DDY in STYX at this time - in my opinion.

Yes, a while ago. Look for a brand new song, hopefully soon :)

Though this is not one of my favorite DDY songs, its lyrics are apropos to the situation now. I am sure a lot of people feel as though they are just a "tiny speck in your great big universe" right now.

I do like the gospel feel of this song too.

I found myself listening to several songs today that seem to fit the mood I was feeling about all this. Sara McLaughlin's "In the Arms of an Angel". Green Day's " Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "Show Me the Way."

One could do worse than the sentiments expressed in "Hello God."
