I just listened to 'A Salty Dog' ( Styx/Gowan version) What GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT vocals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better vocals than Sonny, or 3/4 of the rock singers out there on ANY BLOODY SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Salty Dog with Gowan on vocals is simply incredible. 'Nuf said.

I'm kidding.....I also like his work on that one, it is a song well suited to his voice ( of course, having never heard the original version is probably a good thing too ! )

Speaking of Bono, I remember reading somewhere or watching a U2 interview where the other band members thought Bono's singing was subpar, but he had such a presence about him that he got the job of lead man. Personally, I don't consider him a very good singer, but I think his voice fits the music perfectly.

I'd take him over Gowan, but I do see some similarities between them.

Yeah, I saw that too...I think it was on MTV. They said something like, "We gotta hire this guy...He can learn how to sing later."

Bono has attitude and that's what their music was all about...not having an operatic voice, or the perfect melodic guitar. I don't think ANY of the members of U2 are the among the best players. But, as a band, as a unit, they most certainly are one of the best.
