SPRINGSTEEN'S ILLUSION

Postby yogi » Thu Oct 06, 2005 1:34 am

I just read where Bruce Springsteen is re releasing his Born to Run CD. If you purchase this re release you also receive over 1 hour worth of rare footage from the making of the Born To Run album sessions. You also receive a rare Born to Run concert that was recorded back in 1974?. All of this has been re mastered and put on CD and DVD.

I sure wish Styx would do this with their Equinox, Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight, Cornerstone, and Paradise Theatre albums. Do it for 1 of em or all of em. Wherever their is footage. Talk about AWESOME!!

I read in my Main Event program ( 1978 ) that John P. filmed all sorts of rare band stuff.

I would love to see old footage of both Johns, Chuck, Dennis, JY and Tommy from way back in the 70's and 80's. How about those rare never before seen concerts??

It would sure be a great way to repackage, re master and sell again these GREAT GREAT CD's.

I would bet a months pay the concerts/ and recording sessions are all on film somewhere.

If Bruce can do it, why not someone with some REAL talent??????

Yes, John P. had his camera/s at most of the concerts. The footage is all there. There's a lot of concert footage sitting in a basement or some old storage unit - UGH. I'm still looking and searching for the Hawaii footage out there. I'm getting closer and closer.

I totally agree with you Yogi :)

This is another project that I'm working on.............

The earliest footage that I have is the Best Thing footage from 1972, I have that on DVD now. Grainy, but still nice to have.

Now Yogi, talk like that will get your Platinum membership in the Bruce Springsteen fan club revoked !

I'd pay good $$$ for something like that too from our boys, but sadly, I dont think they could sell enough copies for such a venture to be profitable.

Here's a fun thought, unrelated, but.........

Imagine an a capella version of, heck, ANY song with a vocal group of:
Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Larry Gowan, Neil Young, and Tom Petty.... one caveat, they all have to sing at the same time, no trading off on verses !!!!

My eyes are in pain just reading this lineup. I think my ears would literally detach themselves from my head were they subjected to that. As a backup...you could have the late Tiny Tim.

Back to the subject...while I think many here would love to see that footage, I tend to agree with Classic...probably not enough people out there willing to pay to see it from the band.

I do not see this happening as long as the current group is active in touring and recording. No need in reminding folks of what was..... 8)

I also agree with those who say economincally it might not fly.

How cool would something like that be, though? Thanks for that info, Yogi.

As you can see from Journey, it is very difficult to release vintage material. In fact, in Journey's case, all vintage material seems to be handled by Perry. Their quality has not been the best, up til this Houston DVD that is being released. Maybe they are learning as they go. But I am sure Styx would have a similar problem. Would Tommy and JY agree to DDY's decisions concerning the older product. It sounds like the rift between these guys is even bigger than the one between Perry and Journey. it is a shame.

Burtnik included a day by day journal of the making of his Welcome to Hollywood album. A DVD too. I hear the newer version, from his website, includes more info.

I like extra features alot.

Rod and Bonnie would fit into my a capella group quite nicely ! Maybe even Michael Jackson, who after thriller did several CD's nearly completely void of Melody ( and now he cant figure out why no one cares about his music !!! ) :D
