IF BY SOME MIRACLE????

If by some miracle the dumbass, tone deaf music critics come to their senses and select Styx for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should Glen Burtnik be up there with the others????

Before you jump to that GIANT HELL NO, remember it was Dennis and JY who brought him in for the Edge album and tour. An album that spawned a top 5 hit, and a top 30 hit. Glen sung 4 songs including the title track from that album. He co-wrote the top 30 hit with Dennis.

The follow up album that should of happened never materalized, but Glen did write the only two new songs to appear on Greatest Hits Part 2.

Tommy and JY then bring Glen back to Styx in 1999 to replace and ailing Chuck. Glen tours and releases new material with the band from 1999 - 2003.

There is some REAL history there!!!!!

So what do yall' think????????

There is indeed history there, but if you include Burtnick, you need to include representatives of Curulewski's family as well given that he was on 2 albums that also spawned hits.

I'm not sure how the rules work, other than it's something like 25 years after their first "hit" they are eligible. So does that mean subsequent members would also have to wait for the 25 year mark? I don't know.

It would just be nice to get them there period.

John C. IS WITHOUT A DOUBT included. He help form and shape the band. I NEVER even thought his name would enter in to this discussion.

John was with the band for 5 albums. In my book he is FOREVER a Styx member!

He is in mine as well. I just meant that I wasn't sure what the criteria would be for the various incarnations of the band for inclusion. Nothing more than that.

I can't find it where the rules are for this, I'll keep looking. UGH

I thought the ones that would be included, if nominated would be:

Dennis
Chuck
JY
Tommy
John P.
John C.

I know those would be inducted for sure. And for both John's, the family of both would be invited and I would think participate.

Todd for sure would be there, but if he would be receiving the HOF Award, I'm not sure.

Hey Yogi, while you are up there in that dream world, could you shake some money off the money tree and a few coins out of the pot of gold and send it my way??? :D

My guess is, if "Styx" were inducted, probably all members and member families, past and present, would be included in the induction ceremony. As to whether they could display an actual award on the wall in their various offices, I dunno, but I would imagine it would be those who were involved in the group 25 years (or more) ago.

Am I correct that Dennis and Tommy would be eligible for induction in 2009 as solo performers? OK, I KNOW I am in a dream world there!!!

Bugsy..........youre not in a dream world, youve moved into a completely different reality ! I'd put their chances as solo artists on the other side of those of the Starland Vocal Band !

I actually think it is 25 years after the first contribution. Some of the peole in the RNRHOF never had "hits".

And I think every member of a band should be AT the proceedings. I am torn on the rest of it.

Journey is in a similar position. I feel Steve and Deen certainly belong at ANY ceremony honoring Journey. But I guess I can understand why they would not be included in the actual induction...unless Journey gets another hit. Styx is starting to ge some attention again, but is it enought to include Larry and Glenn? I see the point that Glenn could be "more" eligible. In fact, I am leaning to saying he should be included becaus eof EOTC.

I was looking at the bands that made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and by looking at which members received the award, I would have to say, IF STYX was nominated within 9 years, these are the members that would be inducted:

Dennis
Chuck
JY
Tommy
John P.
John C.

If after 9 years, then Glen would be inducted. As for Todd, I'm not sure how that one works. Gowan and Ricky, I'm not sure when, but they wouldn't be inducted within 9 years.

I'm almost positive that's part of the rules.

As for Journey, I don't think Steve A. or Deen would be inducted at this time either. All of the members before that would be inducted, I think.

Nothing against J. Geils Band, but WHY would they be nominated before STYX or Journey?

Why was The Pretenders inducted before some of these bands too?

Why wasn't Van Halen inducted? They sure influenced a TON of bands.

WHY WHY WHY?????

For J Geils, you really need to go back to their roots, BEFORE their eMpTyV heyday. These guys were a huge touring rnr boogie-woogie bar blues band.

The Pretenders were a HUGE influence for years. A big part of the early punk scene and an inspiration to many women in rock.

I try not to take anything away from the people that DO get inducted, but it is strange the ones that get over-looked.

I don't think Journey will get in until some other 70s-80s band breaks the bubble. Maybe it will be Styx...

Back to reality.

A lot of politics and perception involved in the R & R Hall of Fame.

I would expect of the bands mentioned that Van Halen would get in before Journey and Journey before Styx but likely NONE of them will.

Just my take.

Maybe they ned Journey to break the mold, and then they go in after them....BOTH should go.....

Anyways. The Styx that should get in to the Hall ,is the Styx that got 4 platinums in a row as a first.
It is not my favorite Styx,BUT it was the Styx that were the first to do so.
Now,if there were some some token for being part of the whole deal, then yes the JC family should be mentioned. Why not.
As of Burt.?? I am not sure.

The RNRHOF IS a joke. The nominees usually come forom the labels that have something to push. Whether it is new material, or a packaging of hits...whatever. If the record company can benefit than THAT is who is nominated. It is extremely 'political'. I know Journey will not get in any time soon because they are not a part of a label. Styx is closer with Universal, but the timing of retail product is not there...yet. But if Styx goes in, it should be the everyone up to the members of the line-up through Kilroy. Anyone in the band before that 'classic' line-up is still responsible in some way for the success of the band and therefore should be included IMO.

Van Halen should definately get in there first. And that might be the group to open the floodgates...

When CCR was inducted, John Fogerty didn't invite the rest of the band onto the stage. They just got to stand at their tables and Fogerty made the acceptance speech and played in the all-star jam.

That's pretty sad, I feel bad for the other guys in the band. No matter what happened between them, they must've felt horrible.

I totally agree, it's total joke and sad for those who do deserve to get in.

Again, I totally agree and I think with the rules this would be right.

Yes!! I'm glad that AC/DC is in, that's a start. I think Van Halen influenced more bands then most of these others that were nominated, IMO.

I didn't go back to their history or roots, but I will, thanks for the information.

The Pretenders were a HUGE influence for years. A big part of the early punk scene and an inspiration to many women in rock.

I like The Pretenders, and thanks for explaining. I just think there should have been other bands in before them. I'm still happy for them.

I guess I'm not too concerned whether they make it or not. If they do, fine. If not, so be it. Then again, I'd be hard-pressed to name anyone that's in the Hall of Fame (other than those listed on this thread). But that's just me, I don't give a whole lot of credence to it.

When the Eagles were inducted, Timothy B Schmidt went on stage even though up to that point, the Long Run was the only studio recording he had participated in. Then he made one of the classiest acceptance speeches ever at a mostly political, brainless and sometimes classless (Mike Love's speech in 1986) event. He was very short and to the point and said he had filled some big shoes in Randy Meisner. Randy almost looked flabbergasted. It was actually risky to in the fact that Frey and Henley had fired Meisner from the band and have complete control and say so.

I think Burtnik should go up....not to sure about Gowan, maybe go up but not give a speech.

Very cool about TB Schmidt........what did our favorite Beach boy say that was so classless ?

Also, what was the rift between Meisner and Henley/Frey all about ???

and Gowan can go up, and even play, under 1 condition......that his microphone is TURNED OFF !

Here are the members of the Eagles that were inducted:

Inductees: Don Felder (guitar; born 9/21/47), Glenn Frey (born 11/6/48; guitar, vocals), Don Henley (drums, vocals; born 7/22/47), Bernie Leadon (guitar, mandolin, banjo; born 7/19/47), Randy Meisner (bass, vocals; born 3/8/47), Timothy B. Schmit (bass, vocals; born 10/30/47), Joe Walsh (guitar, vocals; born 11/20/47)

Again, if the band STYX is inducted within 9 years or so, I don't think Glen, Gowan, Todd or Ricky would be included do to the rules which I still can't find. I was looking at the other bands that were inducted to see if any current members were inducted with them and they weren't.

Okay, here's another example of why I think just the band member's "before-Glen" would be inducted. There were other guitarists that were a part of Aerosmith that weren't inducted, they were in the band and also appeared on an album or two.

Useless Information Alert - LOL

Here's the member's of Aerosmith that were inducted:

Inductees: Tom Hamilton (bass; born December 31, 1951), Joey Kramer (drums; born June 21, 1950), Joe Perry (guitar; born September 10, 1950), Steven Tyler (vocals; born March 26, 1948), Brad Whitford (guitar; born February 23, 1952)

Joe Perry left the band during the recording of their sixth studio album Night in the Ruts in 1979 and formed The Joe Perry Project. Perry was replaced first by longtime band friend and songwriter Richie Supa and then by guitarist Jimmy Crespo who recorded the remainder of the album.

Aerosmith released its mammoth-selling Greatest Hits album in 1980 and in 1981 the band suffered another loss with the departure of Brad Whitford. Whitford was replaced by Rick Dufay and the band recorded their seventh album Rock in a Hard Place.

First, Thank you Suite for the info on Areosmith stuff I did not know about one of my favorite bands whom I have never seen in concert. I think that their being a local band who plays so often in the Boston area it's kinda like a Newyorker who has never visited the Statue of Liberty.

Nothing against J. Geils Band, but WHY would they be nominated before STYX or Journey?

I agree great band but not in the same leauge as StYX or Journey. Side note when I was in college in early 80's I had a landscaping business and I took care of the house nextstore to J. Geils house and we could here him play guitar in his barn (Groton , MA).

You're welcome. I was very curious how the Hall of Fame works and came across that and then I did more research and found out there were other members of the band that I never heard of. I thought is was all very interesting. I love useless information :)
