So At The End Of The Day....

Hey Folks;
Been a while since I started a thread here and I just wanted to offer up a few thoughts from my elusive mind.
I'm 34.... that means that guys who were in their 30's when I was grooving to their music in middle and high school are now pushing 60. After you get to a certain age... things just happen.
I used to tell joke to my friends when I was in my 20s (before I was married)... you know you're old when the girls coming out of high school don't even look at you anymore. They just assume you're like their parents or some authority figure. Hell a few days ago some asshole called me "sir" at a concert when he wanted to get by me.
Say what you will about the various lineups and what not... but I think that the glory days are gone and they're never coming back. Most kids (and I say most not all) don't want to watch a bunch of aging dinosaurs jump around and try to be 20 again. Call it maturity, but we expect our heros and idols of the music scene to some how grow, mature and give us entertainment we can relate to. I think this is why things are not going well in this music scene in general. Young kids don't want to watch a bunch of gray haired old men play songs their parents used to listen to, and the parents are turned off by all the drama and childish antics that these artists put on to try and relate to youth. Music has always been an activity of youth or those struggling to hold on to it... and youth just don't connect to a bunch of 60 year old dinosaurs no matter how talented or relevant they are or try to be.
So you can sit here and argue Dennis this and Tommy that... Lord knows I have for long enough ... but at the end of the day I don't think it matters if Jesus Christ was to come down and front Styx or Journey - people just aren't going to notice these art rock dinosaurs anymore to any large capacity.
Melodic Rock will continue to live on in acts that I consider Melodic Rock (although Andrew might disagree).... bands like Cold, Simple Plan, Korn, Disturbed, System of a Down, Papa Roach, Mudvayne, etc... all represent the modern melodic rock scene... some of these ont he lighter side... some on the heaver side. Most people consider these more alternative... but in actually it's all semantics. Acts like Cold have so much in common with the classic rock bands of the 70s... perhaps even more than they'd care to admit. But I digress...
So what should we do? Enjoy it while we have it... because we're not going to have it forever. I've got front row (literaly) seats to see Dennis in Nashville in early November... and it may be the last time I ever see him perform. I could be wrong, but all of these guys are on the downward side of not only their careers, but their lives as well.
I think it's time to kick back on the chair and enjoy what they've given us... because sooner or later it's going to be gone.. and all we'll have are the memories of what used to be.
