I have rarely talked about how I chose my nick. Once in a while I will do a web search to see what is out there for "Monker". A couple of them are fairly interesting.
It seems a few years ago some software company developed some childrens learning software. The main character that 'teaches' in the program is named "Monker". He is described as, "A cute little blue guy in a lab coat." That does not exactly describe me. Do not know if I am considered 'cute', probably not. I am not blue. In my opinion, I'm not 'little'. And, I do not walk about in a lab coat. So, this isn't me. I also think I used "Monker" as my nick before this software existed.
My favorite meaning comes from Islamic lore. Monker (or Munkar) is a dark (or fallen) angel or demon. He is one of two dark angels who interrogate the deal while they are still a recently deceased corpse. If the person answers the questions correctly he is allowed to rest in peace. If, on the other hand, the person fails to answer correctly, he is tortured in the grave until his final damnation on judgment day. If you actually care to read a bit about this...you can read a bit about Islamic beliefs about death and judgment here:

And, no, I am no believer in Islam and my nick is just a coincidence...But, I do find it an interesting coincidence..and I know a few people probably feel the shoe fits!
I also found another guy out there using my nick...He has some kind of Jeep fetish. Not that this is a bad thing...I have thought about buying one myself. It would be nice to have during the winter months.
The true story is much more incidental.
I used several nicks prior to Monker. The first nick I ever used was JrnyFan. I then switched to Renegade because, at that time, some of my opinions: of Steve Perry, Raised On Radio, and my opinion that Journey should move on without Perry; were very much in the minority. But, I felt like I was right and I spoke like I felt...So, I felt like a bit of a Renegade, and hey, I like the song too!
But, there came a time when I wanted something new...something totally unrelated to Journey, Perry, Styx, or music in general. I was at my sister's house one day, I think it was for a birthday party for my niece or nephew. Anyway, I was playing with my niece, who was around four at that time. She got mad at me for some reason and looked at me and said, "You're a monker!" "What?", I asked. My sister was kind of laughing and said, "She's trying to call you a 'monster'."
So, there you have it. I'm a monster! LOL
