Styx' new opening act (for Froy)

Last night's Carrot Styx concert. Hopefully they had the dirt floor cleaned up before the concert. (LOL) I don't know what's funnier, the bulls or the toads. I don't think that any of the band members from 1977-1981 would have dreamed this would be happening with their concert tours.

<<<<<<----------- I wouldn't have minded seeing the cowboys at last nights concert - LOL

The frogs are funnier,

but I can't think anyone in the music industry 20 yearsw ago could have predicted the fairs being one of the major circuits. Nor would they have imagined that new artists couldn't fill standard venues or be able to tour because their "sound" was locked in a studio and couldn't be replicated live.

The frogs are funnier and the name of the festival, except the frog jumping contest didn't open for Dennis, but the Bull riding cowboys opened for Carrot Styx.

Hey as long as the crowds are happy (if they don't step in anything) and each band puts on a great show - that's all that matters :)

You're right, after playing those huge arena tours, no one could have seen this coming.

Ack, you're not kidding. The studio versions of some of this "new" music is great, then you hear them live and it sounds terrible, like night and day.

For the name of the event...Toad Suck Daze wins it. It's a classic if ever I heard one.

Bull riding...well it goes right in line with the Buffalo Chip gig they did a few months back. Perhaps it's a new theme.

But seriously, to your point about artists from the past now making fairs a major circuit, I think it's evolvement. Find new ways to get your music heard.

And today's artists....Pro Tools is a blessing and a curse. My own opinion only here...too much emphasis being placed on the looks and not enough on the actual quality. But then, perhaps I am just getting set in my old ways. Scott, Classic...I know you'll have some come back here.

Slinking away....

YEEEE HAAA!

I love the names of those bulls (listed under "Bovine Stars") --- Rotten Cotton, LOL!

Honestly. I am amazed that this PBR event even WANTED Styx and not some country act. I see Charlie Daniels was on the bill the day before.

I will always remember being at a small-time Texas rodeo up in the hill country and some guy got his hand caught in the rope and was being tossed around like a little rag doll by some gigantic Brahma. After he finally fell free and wobbled out of the arena, some ol' boy behind me yelled "You gotta be CRAZY to ride a bull!" Yup!

Bugsy

Hmm, after Dennis performed to the toads and from a hot air balloon, you said you wouldn't make fun of Styx venues ever again.

Guess it's in your nature and you can't help it.

I change my mind on things about every 10 minutes or so, big deal.

LOL, It was very, very hard, I just couldn't resist this one. I would've actually went to this concert watching the cowboys before the show

Does it really matter what I say on these boards anyway? I just like coming on here to mingle with friends. I personally don't think my "opinions" really matter - LOL

If what you say doesn't matter, then the replies to what you say shouldn't matter to you either.

I guess that makes the forum so insignificant that Andrew should just delete the forum.

LOL, can't you pick on someone else? Sheesh. I'm just messing with you.

Oops, it's been over 10 minutes. Time to change with the wind -LOL I'm sure what I post doesn't matter to YOU! There you go. I'll probably change again in a little bit.

Replies to my posts do matter to me and what other people post do matter to me. I enjoy reading about STYX and stories, opinions and concert reviews that people on here post. Most of the people posting here are great people!!!

You'd have to ask them to know for sure, but I suspect if you'd asked any of the Members of Styx in 1978 what they'd be doing in 2005, they probably would have said theyd be retired, living off of their royalties.

I cant remember many 60 year old performers who had lived a lifestyle similar to what theirs was in the 70's back in those days......so basically there was no precident for this sort of longevity back then.

and as far as the Styx/Rodeo connection, I say....Yee Hah !
Ride 'em JY ! Heck, maybe the Santana Moment will come via Nashville ??!!!!

Speaking of which, I was shocked a while back to see Disturbed playing at the Ranch Bowl in Omaha, one of the smallest venues there. I've never checked the numbers, but I thought their last few CDs were very successful. Go figure.

I won't say anything about playing the fair/rodeo circuit becasue Journey was doing that for quite sometime. It is certainly a valid path to take. The only concern is that Styx seems to be going backwards, while Journey has been growing.
