I also find it interesting that the song "Best Thing" was first released in 1972, reached #82 and then was released again in 1975. I never knew that.

My guess would be that since "Lady" became a big hit, they decided to go back through some of their earlier songs that might have potential.
"Best Thing" only came in at 82, but maybe with a big hit in their basket, they thought "Best Thing" could do better.. I don't know for sure, there are a couple of the listings I wonder about, was "Young Man" really issued, and did "Haven't We Been Here Before" actually fail to chart, right after "Don't Let It End" peaked at #6?

I wonder if "Best Thing" didn't do any better on its second go-round because it sounded very different from how "Lady" sounded. It was not a harmony loaded song like Lady was. Just my opinion here.

I thought "Young Man" was a B side to some other song. Might be wrong about this as well. It is a great, great song, but not single material in my view.

I agree about "Young Man" being a great song, but not really single material. I would think that if they were going to go back and give anything a chance from "The Serpent Is Rising", it would have been "Winner Takes All". It also doesn't really make a whole lot of sense that after "Lady" was a big hit, the songs they went back and issued didn't feature Dennis on lead..

A big mistake, as it turned out.

Although I think "You Need Love" was very radio friendly sounding, even with JY on vocals. It is just a great-sounding, rocking song.

LOVE that song too!! My very first STYX record!! The early live version is one of the best. I love hearing that "extras" in the song.

Does anyone know the last time JY ever performed this song??
