Holy Moly - DDY 7 Concert Dates Sold Out

What the hell? Can someone explain this to me? (yes, I'm still up-LOL)

Dennis' third show sold out in Montreal within hours, they're talking about adding yet, a 4th show.

JAN 28, FEB 16, AND MAR 25 SHOWS ARE SOLDOUT. NEW SHOW TO BE ADDED TBA. CHECK BACK FOR MORE INFO.

Dennis' fourth show sold out in Quebec City within hours, they're talking about adding a 5th show.

JAN 27, FEB 18, 24 and 25 ARE SOLDOUT.
STAY TUNED HERE FOR DETAILS ABOUT FUTURE SHOWS

To me, this is incredible.

This is what I don't understand (yes, I'm blond). Carr.. Styx played in Canada these dates in 2005, just a few months ago at these places.

Jul 28 Ottawa Congress Centre Ottawa, ON
Jul 29 L'Agora du Vieux Port Quebec City, QC
Jul 30 Bourbon Street Club Sainte-Adèle, QC

They came and went, no shows were sold out, but they have the Styx name. In fact, please, if I'm not mistaken, at the Bourbon Street Club they only sold 600 out of the 900 tickets. I'll have to check with Pollstar on the correct figure, but I think that's what it was.

How can Dennis' shows sell out but not Styx shows in Canada? Wouldn't you think it would be the other way around, since they have the name Styx?

Anybody???

:D

Congrats Dennis.

The first song to really hit it big for Styx, after "Lady", was "Suite Madame Blue" in Canada.

I do not think the Canadians are fooled by the name Styx, attached to a touring band. They want to hear the voice of Dennis DeYoung.

As I have said before, people go to a Current Styx concert for a party and a good time. They go see Dennis to hear the music, and they get a good time as well.

Perhaps some Canadians wanted a party and a good time, and went to see Current Styx. Other Canadians, a few more, want to hear the music.

It could also be the "STYX" has over played the area - they have everywhere else!

Dennis does have some name recognition and he uses the name STYX in his promotion so those who do not know the name right off still get it.

There is also question of promotion, the soundstage program, I think it has aired in Canada as well - is a heck of a sales tool.

But over all I think "STYX" needs to take a year off the road, get a new CD of new material out and let their shows re-gain event status.

Mr. V says:

But when they played there in July, Styx couldn't sell the tickets at all, why?

True, but they're there to see Dennis with the Music of Styx, not the band Styx. :)

Yes and his awesome appearance on Star Academie, seen by millions and millions and millions of Canadians :)

I don't think they'll EVER re-gain event status, I think they're done. OMG, I sound like Froy

Suite,

I am TRULY happy for Dennis!! But, I think you are reading WAAAAYYYY tooooooo much into these sold out performances. Orchestras are huge in Canada!! Barney singing I Love You/w orchestra sold out 6 dates in Quebec back in 2004.

Since 1999 Styx has literally played in front of millions of fans the world over. Think of all the tours they have been on( REO, Bad Company, Frampton, Main Event) they have kept the name alive.

Remember: if you are not appearing you are disappearing. Some famous guy once said that.

Way to go Dennis!!! Way to go Barney!!!!!!

Maybe not, but he can hit the high note in Roboto if you kick him in the nuts.

Styx ticked alot of Canadians off over the SARS scare a few years ago. Many are still ticked. Tommy addressed this in one of his notes when they appeared there.

But, Good for Dennis.

Hope the venue isn't holding back tickets for those room/concert packages.

I go to a current Styx concert to here the music! How omniscient of you to be able to divine the intent of thousands of people whom you do not know!

At this time I would be more likely to go see Dennis in my area since he's never been here without Styx. I've had several opportunities to see Styx in the last few years. Perhaps it's the same in Montreal, perhaps not.

I go to see Styx for the music. I will do the same for Dennis if he ever stops anywhere nearby. I usually get together with some close friends and have a few cold ones if I'm looking to party and have a good time

Here in Toronto, just before SARS,a local rockradio station were giving passes to a free Styx club gig.Cancelled.Makeup gig cancelled, due to snowstorm (supposedly) where their equipment was coming from.
They still have to make up for that gig.
