OT - Prayers & wishes asked

Hi all,
I was watching the 11:00 news here (which I rarely do) and learned that Ryan Sorenson of Boca Raton, FL, ex-long time boyfriend of my oldest step daughter, was killed Sunday by enemy fire in Iraq. I think he was 23 years old. Ryan was a good kid, and my daughter was crazy about him.
I can't even imagine what his family must be going through right now, two weeks away from Thanksgiving. Please keep them, and Ryan, in your prayers tonight.
Thank you.

Having a niece about to ship out in 3 weeks does not make news like this any easier. She is only 21. Scary world we live in.

Zan,
He sounds like a great kid, who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country........we should all be grateful there are young people of such high character out there willing to protect us and serve and sacrifice for all of us.
Sadly, this scenario has been repeated over 2,000 times in the past few years. I hope in the end it turns out to be worth these staggering losses. I know for the friends and families of these heroes it is a huge price to pay.
I am truly sorry for your loss.

Thank you. He really was. A friend of mine found another article with a photo. Apparently, being a Marine was something he'd always wanted, and even the pleading of his mother (as well as Ursula, my step daughter) didn't change his mind.
Ursula got an email from him on Saturday, right before they were sent on their mission. he said he wouldn't be able to write for awhile, but to give Katlyn (my daughter) a hug for him and to say hello to the Johns (my ex husband and her brother). Really, really sad.

Zan...
Thanks for the link. This young man sounds like he had such a good heart.Which makes this loss that much harder. Trying to put sense where none can be found, I guess all anyone can do with it is cherish what made the person special in the first place.
My sincere condolences to all involved.

God bless him Zan and all of our brave brothers and sisters fighting for what I feel is a just cause (IMO). Politics aside, where would any of us be without our brave military through our history. Our national guard put an end to this foolishness where I live down in Louisiana, there are several still stationed at where I work, living in cots and being away from their loved ones. I thank at least one each day for their sacrafice.

I'm not sure what's just and what's not....I am glad that I dont have to be the one making decisions that indirectly decide life and death of thousands, or perhaps millions of people.
Editorially, don't you think you have to be a little nuts to WANT to be president ?
The main point I want to make is, regardless of how I feel about the war
I am "Pro-troops" and hope our leaders REALLY take their well being into
consideration as they make decisions pertaining to this and every conflict.
I imagine that is harder than it sounds to the average Joe...many of these decisions are made in a cushy office at the White House or Pentagon, by people who may have never been on the front lines.....
Please don't take this post as a slam on anyone in office today, this is not the thread for that.
It's just such a huge sacrifice to make, giving ones life for any cause.....
