Lewis, the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Disney is re-making it along with the Director of Shrek I and II, so you can only imagine how fantastic the scenes and costuming are going to be. It took 2 years alone creating Aslan, I cannot wait for this to come out, you must view the trailers online by going to Narnia.com it's really fantastic.

Maybe they toned the movie down to accomodate the younger audience.
I really like these movies, but because the first three came out to coincide with the LOTR, they will always fall short in comparison for me. I'm hoping this movie will break them away from the comparison.
I've read some of The Chronicles of Narnia. It has great potential as a movie, but I'm afraid it might just be another LOTR wannabe. I wish Peter Jackson had done it.
I'm interested in seeing how Jackson treats King Kong. It will have to be good, the man is a genius.

Well, I thought the preview was awesome. The scenes on the island looked REALLY cool. It also seems he's remaking the OLD version, not the 70's version...it's even set in the '30's or whatever.

Well, my wife said this was most 'unlike the book' of the movies so far. They cut out a lot of subplots and even entire characters.
Well that's a black mark already. The subplots in the book were what held it together with the overall story for me.Well, there is no comparison for me. It's like the South Park take off when Cartman and crew are playing LotR and walk by some kids 'shooting' each other with magic wands. Cartman, "What are you guys playing?". Other kid, "Harry Potter" Cartman, "Ha! Fags!" It's a TOTALY different audience...They are going after the "Willow" and "Labrynth" audience where LotR went after the "Excalibur" audience.
When the first movies of each series came out some of the critics were saying Rowling ripped off LOTR for her story. I think that's why I was comparing them. I saw parallels in Dumbledore/Gandalf, Valedmort/Sauron, Harry/Frodo(being the hope of the good guys), the troll, etc. In The Order of the Pheonix there's a group of people comparable to the Fellowship. Now that I've read the latest HP book there's also going to be a token comparable to the Ring itself.
I like the HP movies for themselves, but nothing can really come up to LOTR standards for me.Well, since Lewis and Tolkein were friendly rivals, I'm sure it WILL be a bit of a 'wannabe'...but the bits I have seen look REALLY good.
I didn't know about the rivalry. That makes it even more interesting. I've been seeing previews on tv. The landscape looks exactly like LOTR, but then, it's all New Zealand. It looks like they did a fabulous job on Aslan. It'll be interesting to see how realistically they pull off all of the talking animals.

Now, that is what I'd like to see. I think the only characters they would need to return are Bilbo, Gandalf, and Gollum...and Gandalf and Gollum are only briefly there, from what I remember.
There was also some talk back then about doing movies of some of the stories in the Silmarion (or whatever).

As I remember the book,(it's been awhile)Gandalf, Gollum and Bilbo may be the only characters that are in both stories. Maybe Elrond, but I'm not sure about that. I think Gandalf makes several brief appearances. Even though it wouldn't precisely follow the book, I wish he would find a way to put Tom Bombadil in there. That was a HUGE omission from the LOTR.
Wow, the Silmarillion would make a great movie. There's a tremendous backstory to the LOTR that's explained in that book.
