Anyone but Gowan

PostPosted: Mon Nov 28, 2005 2:19 am

For the sake of this thread, lets take it that Dennis isn't a part of Styx anymore and has no chance in coming back (not a far stretch). But the other band members want to go on. (not a far stretch either). Who should replace Dennis role and why?

Froy often says anyone but Gowan. Most recently he has said it should be Bozo the Clown. So who should it be?

No lets not take it

But the other band members want to go on

Then they can go on by themselves
Without Dennis the other band members would be playing bowling alleys.

Who should replace Dennis role and why

Nobody should replace Dennis and why because he did nothing to be replaced,
Froy often says anyone but Gowan. Most recently he has said it should be Bozo the Clown. So who should it be

Bozo should replace Gowan Dennis should replace Bozo.

I'll bite on this thread

For the sake of this thread, lets take it that Dennis isn't a part of Styx anymore and has no chance in coming back (not a far stretch).

Even though he's currently not in the band, he will always be part of the band Styx, no matter what happens. He will still have his say on a few of the matters concerning songs and I'm sure a few other things.

I think that as of 36 days ago, he's pretty much happy in the way everything is going and is content in his life being a solo artist that the thought of going back to the band Styx will only be for ONE show only with Tommy, Jimmy and Chuck on stage, no tour.

But the other band members want to go on. (not a far stretch either). Who should replace Dennis role and why?

I know this thread was just for Froy, but the band has already gone on and it's not going to matter who JY replaced Dennis with, he was kicked out of a band that he co-founded and helped bring this band the fame and fortune that went with it, etc. etc. etc. It's the way all this happened years and years ago.

Froy often says anyone but Gowan. Most recently he has said it should be Bozo the Clown. So who should it be?

No one. He should've never been replaced or kicked out. They needed the name STYX to keep them going. I think it wouldn't have mattered who he was replaced with for the DeYoungians, especially me, more than Froy, believe it or not. The only one that I would had a hard time with all this rock soap opera, is if Rik Emmett was the one, the replacement.

Let them keep Gowan. Just change the name of the band to reflect that it is no longer Styx, because Styx had a unique sound with Dennis and it no longer has this.

Use Styx in the name, if they wish, but change it up a bit. Many fans of the current lineup, including the current lineup, think they are the best ever. So what would a bit of a name change to reflect this do? I think it would be more honest and set their identity apart from what they were when Dennis was in the band.

How about someone who:

1. Has a STATIONARY set of Keyboards

and

2. Can do justice to the vocal harmonies and leads on vocals of the Classic Styx songs.....

sorry, cant give you a name.........

Okay...being a member of the DeYoungian guild, I'd be hard pressed to find someone to take over the role.

After all this time, I think Gowan should remain in the band. I may not care for his vocals, but it's almost 7 years into it. I think to replace him now would only further diminish the band.

LOL - I love how some people are so hungup on the rotating keyboard, as if it's a BAD thing. Like it's SO much better to watch a guy just stand in one place doing nothing but running his hands back and forth. If Dennis had thought of it, you'd all be in awe of his ingenuity.

BTW, I'd vote for Glen or the guy from Air Supply. ;-)

I can remember some things far more embarrasing than spinning keyboards and by that i dont mean music time....

1 Dennis's almost comical dance during Lorelei on the Return To Paradise DVD.

2 Tommy's acting in Kilroy......DAMMIT DAMMIT....

3 The greasy fried chicken quote and the knee to the robots balls in Kilroy

4 High Crimes And Misdemeanours being considered good enough to make a Styx CD

5 The Heavy Metal Poisoining dance ...guitar shredding mind altering Rock guy to nerd machine in ...yes you guessed it Kilroy.

My oh my...it's Monday and we've all decided to get feisty with each other.

Embarrassing moments from the band...
Suzanne's involvement in her hubby's career
Who is significant?

So glad to see Thanksgiving has come and gone and we can all get back to normal.

Enjoy.

I guess it's not a bad thing for the newbies. I personally thought it was kind of funny to watch for a "rock" band. Just my opinion. I've seen this line up a few times and to me it's getting old. Just my opinion. They keep playing the same cities year after year, maybe he can come up with something else.

Like it's SO much better to watch a guy just stand in one place doing nothing but running his hands back and forth. If Dennis had thought of it, you'd all be in awe of his ingenuity.

Dennis also plays the piano and keyboards on some songs too. I thought about it if Dennis was the one that did the spinning keyboard thing first. LOL, thank goodness he didn't. I dont' know how I would really feel publicly if he did. I still remember when "Mr. Roboto" came out and how I really felt about it during that time. Obviously I feel different now over the years about that song.

BTW, I'd vote for Glen or the guy from Air Supply.

Zan, do you think if Glen was asked to come back in to Styx for a few dates, you think he would?

I'm sure "Music Time" is right up there for you, maybe on your top 10 list - LOL

1 Dennis's almost comical dance during Lorelei on the Return To Paradise DVD.

I'll have to watch that one again later and see if it's worse than the spinning keyboard - LOL

2 Tommy's acting in Kilroy......DAMMIT DAMMIT....

THAT is funny!!!! That would be in my top 5!!

I seriously doubt he would.

As for the spinning keys, "some" have been ragging on them from day ONE. I say "some" because I'm sure individuals will pop out and say "not me" or "who do you mean?" I mean those who have opposed Styx touring without Dennis, and those who manage to find fault in the most petty sh*t possible.

As for "newbies," I am not one, and I think it was a pretty good move to have your keyboard player be an active part of the stage show, as opposed to just standing there, half hidden.

As for stuff "getting old" well, I think we don't need to go there again. LOL

Who me??? LOL Just kidding.

That's why I like it when Dennis isn't off to the side hidden behind the keyboards at his concerts now.

Count me in on that. I have never been shy about saying how much I dislike the spinning keyboard and the antics of Gowan onstage. I have not seen it live (mercifully), but I have seen enough on video to last me a lifetime.

Again, it is just not what I like and I have no quarrel with those who do.

As far as the spinning keyboards, that is not a petty thing...That is part of his on stage performance, what Lawrence brings to the performance table...It is out there to draw attention, to talk about, good or bad, you learn to take it with a grain of salt...Just like Dennis's Air guitaring and his on stage performance...

You know, it would be kind of comical to see them both on the same stage, DDY playing his air guitar, and LG doing ring around the keyboards....

who would look sillier ? ( RHETORICAL QUESTION ALERT, PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER........) :D

Dennis always does a bit of air guitar at his concerts. Pete Townshend style. :) And speaking of The Who, Dennis also did a Roger Daltrey style microphone twirl in NYC.

I'll have to think of a new one too, I'm not creative as most of you are on here.
