I wonder if Ozzy will accept...they should be there long before Skynyrd..gag. Otherwise, a great lineup!

BLACK SABBATH, BLONDIE, MILES DAVIS, LYNYRD SKYNYRD & THE SEX PISTOLS NAMED AS ROCK HALL'S CLASS OF 2006

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has chosen a broad group to make up its Class of 2006. The newest inductees were announced this morning (Monday, November 28th), and they are: Black Sabbath, Blondie, jazz trumpet legend Miles Davis, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the Sex Pistols. The 21st annual induction ceremony will be held March 13th at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.

The formal announcement cited each nominee's credentials:

Black Sabbath -- "Black Sabbath stands as the premier purveyors of heavy metal," and they were also called "enormously influential."
Blondie -- "Blondie is one of the most successful rock and roll bands to emerge from the late Seventies New Wave scene... Blondie's eclectic hit-making sound flirted with salsa, funk, disco, reggae, and rap."
Miles Davis -- "Miles Davis was one of the 20th Century's most creative artists, changing the sound of popular music many times in his six-decade career. His musical experimentation beginning in the late 60's created a fusion of jazz with rock and roll, soul, funk, and hip hop."
Lynyrd Skynyrd -- "Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed Southern Rock groups of the 1970's," and they were also cited for "their distinctive triple-lead guitar sound."
The Sex Pistols -- "Over the course of their short and turbulent career, the Sex Pistols released a single album -- Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols -- that ranks as one of the most important rock records ever released. The album changed the course of rock and roll, kicking the British punk movement into high gear."

Here's the completet list of those who *were* eligible:

Others on the list who are eligible for induction include (in alphabetical order): Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, the Dave Clark Five, jazz trumpet player and bandleader Miles Davis, the Sir Douglas Quintet, the J. Geils Band, the rap group Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Mellencamp, the Sex Pistols, the Patti Smith Group, the Stooges, and Joe Tex.

Thanks for posting this, I was wondering who will be inducted.

I thought I read over and over that Ozzy won't show up or accept it. I guess we'll see what kind of hoopla will go with this one. He accepted the one from the UK that I saw on VH1 over the weekend.

Thanks, Angie, for posting this.

I pretty much think this in an ok list. I sure wouldn't have the Sex Pistols in MY Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, however!

I was very happy to see the supremely untalented Dave Clark Five would not be inducted. What a JOKE! J. Geils would be a close second to the undeserving DC-5 in my book.

Bugsy

I thought it was funny that when I opened the Styx conference and saw the thread titles, and it read:

"R & R Hall of Fame Inductees Announced"

"Anyone but Gowan."

LOL
