The thread on the top 5 proudest moments got me thinking..
I really don't want to start anything with this, but I would just like some honest opinions: Does anyone think it was a little low of Dennis to release a song only available through his wife's book? Out of all the members of the group, past and present, to me Dennis will always be the key element of Styx, but looking back, I can't help but feel that this was a cheap move. I mean, to make his fans, who at the time were starving for new material from him, purchase his wife's romance novel to get it.. I don't know, their whole method of doing business rubs me the wrong way at times; it's almost enough to make you understand why "some" of the issues between Dennis and the other members exist.

Don't be ashamed - LOL Just kidding.
I think with the way the music business is and most of the older artists are having a hard time getting a record contract, they try to find other means of marketing. This might have been one of those means with the book and record together.
Hey, this gives me an idea, thanks (I'll have to owe you Black Wall)
When my screenplay is completed and it goes into a book (LOL) you bet I will now add a soundtrack cd with it. How cool is that?
It will all be original music with well known artist/s.

I never thought of it as a cheap business tactic, Blackwall. It was supposed to be seen as a "bonus" to the book, and had he sold it separately, that could have been viewed as upstaging the wife, and I can't see Dennis doing that willingly. However, I did think that it must be a bit of a bruise to Suzanne's ego to know that at least half (probably more like 90%) of the people who bought her book only bought it because of the free song.
(I'm sure the actual numbers will follow shortly)

I tend to think the number would be higher than 60% in this case. I believe the song was written to help sell the book.
I don't think it was cheap. I think it was done to help his wife. Most of us have done that at one point or another right?

You bet.
It this was the case for me, I'd help out my husband in a heart beat. In fact, I would do this for close family and friends too.
I remember at the Chicago show when the book/cd was first available. They sold out 3,000 before intermission, that what I was told.
No comment on the %
Sadie, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I am NOT calling you from being banned from this site, but exactly 467 Styx live shows ago I posted this near EXACT assembly line.
I remember the date because Styx was playing an Amish barn raising festival that night. My exact words were ' Dennis's fans are starved for new material and the only way they can get it is to purchase a book from his wife. Talk about pitiful!!!'
A public apology for stealing my topic will keep you in my good graces.
What is really sad is that I hear now Suzanne is working night and day in an effort to complete her next book so that it can be included in Dennis's upcoming CD. The Deyoung camp is really hoping the inclusion of Suzanne's new masterpeice will boost Dennis's CD sales!!!!!!

Yeah, I figured someone would have at least touched on this topic when the book was released.
Don't get me wrong, I understand Dennis' reasons, who wouldn't want to help their significant other, but think about the loyal fans that had to buy a romance novel to get a new song.. I'm just not sure that it was the right thing to do to the fans. Of course, worse has been done, and I even as I post all of this, when I went to a show in April of '03, I was one of the many that picked up the book..
