Styx? Journey? It's ALL Good

All of this crossing back and forth among Styx and Journey fans on these MR message boards (Which Andrew has so kindly provided for all of us to vent and rave) has got me to thinking.
I was a fan of both groups (among others) back in the 70’s and 80’s, but I never saw any similarity at all. Talk about the old cliché, apples and oranges! This most certainly applies to these two groups. Other than having two powerful signature voices, neither of whom sound anything remotely alike, these groups share nothing in common musically.
I always saw (and heard) Journey as a power pop/rock band ; Styx more progressive rock with some pop/rock leanings.
So what is the reason for “comparisons” or saying one band is “better” than the other? I really don’t get it.
There is no argument from me that Journey was the more popular band and, apparently, still is.
Classic Styx fan that I am , this does not bother me in the slightest.
I will add that I wish Steve Perry were out doing what Dennis is doing. The world is currently minus one great rock voice.
OK, I have vented…..and raved a bit, too, I guess.
Bugsy
