Styx and Stones

Postby DanMan » Sat Jan 28, 2006 7:01 am

I got this uncle who is absolutely OBSESSED with the Stones. We always get into arguments about which band is better

Styx....or....Stones

I put up the argument that while the Stones may have more songs and more hits and a bigger name...Styx was unique and full of Classics not just Hits.

Am I right or wrong.....

I need a little help to win this battle, so if anyone has any good points that I can make then by all means...let me know.

Just like your title states -- Styx and Stones -- apples and oranges. The two groups cannot be compared because they are so radically different.

Blues-based English rock band vs. American progressive rock band.

Completely different rock bands. Completely different music. Totally different styles. On and on......

Both bands have very talented musicans, songwriters, etc.

So it boils down to personal preference. One is really not "better" than the other. It depends on the kind of music you like as to which group you LIKE better.

MHO.

The boys in Styx have aged better than the Stones Mick's face looks like a dried prune these days !

on the other hand, if there is a nuclear holocaust, it is reassutring to know that Keith Richards and Cock Roaches will survive !!! The mans body has been through the equivalent of several wars already, he is indestructable !

Musically, both bands havent put out any work that will be remembered 50 years from now since about 1980.......

The Stones longevity at the top of Rock and Roll ( based on live ticket sales ) is unparalleled. makes Cal Ripkens streak look like........... a good start ! Personally, I will take the music of Styx any day, but have much respect for the Stones of the 60s and 70's.

The Stones are a rock icon. Styx never was, and never will be, in that league.

Too subjective. Each represents a different genre of music. The Stones have earned their history and status.

Styx may or may not make that same claim...however I prefer the music of Styx far more than that of the Stones.

Personal choice can rarely be given to prove superiority.

the stones are a GREAT band, but styx can sing the pants off of mick jagger. stones will go down in the recordbooks. doubt styx will. most of the stones songs annoy me, but some of the stuff they did with brian jones and mick taylor is unbelievable. monkey man, 2000 light years from home, wild horses, heartbreaker, sympathy, can't always get... lots of amazing tunes. styx is completely different. not as groundbreaking, but certainly influential. GI is a perfect album. PO8, Cyclorama and Equinox are up there too! it just comes down to what you prefer to listen to. :)

I personally prefer STYX, obviously, I think they're a better band than the Stones.

Just my opinion.

Moniker is correct. But strange as it is Styx had a #1 hit and the Stones never hit #1 even though the Stones are vastly more popular than Styx.

Me I prefer Styx.

As a side note imagine a concert with Styx, Stones, BOC and Black Sabbath---------------Styx and Stones and Black and Blue............
