DENNIS DEYOUNG THE BAY

Applause, cries, sifflets: the 2200 persons that welcomed the ex-leader of the group Styx, Dennis DeYoung, at the time of his arrival on the scne of the Thtre of the municipal Palace of The Bay, last night, have quickly affich their colors. Pain had t play the premires note pice "The Big Illusion", pulls album of the ms name, that the native artist of Chicago has ralis that it was located in territory friend.
Him also has dvoil his game quickly. Vtu of a white jacket and of a black pants rayures, it does less to think a pioneer of the progressive rock qu' a magazine leader, but his voice is intact remainder, just as the direction of the thtre that caractrisait his former formation. Thus, that this be in motion or while touching the keyboard, this that it does standing, its gestures taient ample, often saccads, while its musicians proposed a version muscle of his classic of 1977.
They taient four, what's more of the two choir members, and had not need than Dennis DeYoung adopts the pose of the orchestra boss - this than it does sometimes - to know this than it awaited of them. The time that the singer excute a small solo to the classical intonations to conclude "The Big Illusion", for example, and they followed it to the quarter of turn on "Lady". The beat tait heavy, the guitar a little show-off. The tone tait donn for this that was a soire mmorable.
"Good evening my friends. How has goes? You have not me forgetfulness? Thank-you a lot", has lanc Dennis DeYoung in franais, once complts the three first titles figuring in the program. "It done cold trs, but we go rchauffer the Thtre of the Palace, followed the singer before asking the people themselves they taient prts for rock'n roll. One guesses which was the rponse, which has t greets by another succs of Styx, "Lorelei". "You your the better public to the world", has next dcrt the singer.
"You your tremendous ones"
The visual effects are less numerous qu' l'poque of "Kilroy Was Here" (one talks about a time that the less than 20 years do not be able connatre, as would say the other). C'tait in 1983 and Styx look like a pioneer with its placements in scne labores, understanding the usage of a notch glove. The Bay, the alone gadget that one was able to see was a tte of robot that, well sr, appeared in the hand of Dennis DeYoung at the time of his interprtation of "Mr Roboto".
If one done abstraction of the title, that does to think a film of srie B, this song remains effective diablement on scne. Yesterday, she has t served hot trs, grce a beat serr putting the battery and the synthtiseurs forward. has has not drougi to the moment o, as on the album, Dennis DeYoung has rpt the words Kilroy, as to show that the history did nothing but to begin. The spectacle tait again young, but that imports! The crowd, standing, some asked again.
"You your tremendous ones, has rpondu the artist, still in the language of Michel Tremblay. Lively the Qubec! Lively the Qubec!" The public, that counted a strong proportion of quadragnaires, had dj t gt, it is necessary to say. When the musicians have matters "Pieces Of Eight", between other, they had straight the one of these turns in Russian mountains of which the progressive rock one - so popular at our place in the annes 70 - so extravagant tait.
This pice has commenc the manire of a ballad before to take a more rock color, prlude another atmosphre change marqu by rfrences the classical music. A true song pentures. In the ms kind, "Class Walls" was again more typical, especially at the time of the intervention of the synthtiseurs. Aprs an opening trs slow modulates by the low one, tension has augment, driving a guitar solo librateur.
Before the dpart of the the Newspaper reprsentant, hour of grave obliges, Dennis DeYoung and its accomplices have dvoil another aspect of their personnalit in prsentant "Rockin' In The Paradise". One would have said a mlange of Queen and of Jerry The Lewis, so this pice tait dbride, far of the concocted thtrales HIGHER voques. Once more, the people have manifest their joy while whistling. For a little, one would have believed that the Saguenens had just won the cutting Memorial. Or that scratches it had just passed in their street.

I'm sure he ranked higher that the Olympics up there, I mean come on, he IS Dennis DeYoung, selling show after show out up there. Good for him.

By the way, the current line up of Styx are going to make a Canadian invasion. Look for more of those dates. Giggle Giggle!! They played in Montreal, the same city that solo DENNIS sold out 4 dates, a few months ago and sold about 600 out of the 900 seats in a small theater. I'm not trying to be too much of a bitch this morning (LOL) but WHY would they do this?

I think it would be AWESOME if they played the same night in the same city at different venues.

Thats NEVER been done before. It could give both of their careers a boost.

They both would get plenty of pub if they did that!

The way I understood this review was that Dennis either wore the Roboto mask twice during the performance once while singing Oh Canada, or Suzanne left him.

Considering that Dennis often invokes Jerry Lewis when introducing Lady in radio interviews...I found the reference here rather apt.

Then again...if it's Jerry Lee Lewis...Dennis does a mean Great Balls of Fire

REFUSALS DEYOUNG WITH BAY

One evening memorable!

Daniel Côté

The Daily newspaper

The Bay

Applause, cries, whistles: the 2200 people who accomodated the ex-leader of the Styx group, Dennis DeYoung, at the time of its arrival on the scene of the Theatre of the municipal Palate of Bay, yesterday evening, quickly posted their colors. Hardly had been played the first notes of the part “The Grand Illusion”, drawn from the album of the same name, as the artist originating in Chicago realized that it was in friendly territory.

He also revealed its play quickly. Vêtu of a white jacket and black trousers with stripes, it less makes think of a pioneer progressive rock'n'roll just like that with a leader of review, but its voice remained intact, the direction of the theatre which characterized its old formation. Thus, that it is while going or by touching the keyboard, which it makes upright, its gestures full, was often jerked, while its musicians proposed a muscular version of its traditional of 1977.

They were four, in addition to the two chorus-singers, and did not require that Dennis DeYoung adopts the installation of the leader - what it does sometimes - to know what it awaited from them. Time that the singer carries out a small solo with the traditional intonations to conclude “The Grand Illusion”, for example, and they followed it to the quarter of turn on “Lady”. The happy one was heavy, the a little slobbery guitar. The tone was given for what was one evening memorable.

“Good evening my friends. How is that? You did not forget me? Thank you very much”, launched Dennis DeYoung in French, once supplemented the first three titles appearing in the program. “The weather is very cold, but we will heat the Theatre of the Palate, continued the singer before asking people if they were ready for rock' N roll. One guesses which was the answer, which was greeted by another success of Styx, “Lorelei”. “You are the best public in the world”, then issued the singer.

“You are formidable”

The visual effects are fewer than at the time of “Kilroy Was Here” (one speaks about a time that less than 20 years cannot know, as would say the other). It was in 1983 and Styx had the appearance of a pioneer with his settings in scene worked out, including/understanding the use of a giant screen. With Bay, the only gadget which one could see was a head of robot which, of course, appeared in the hand of DeYoung Refusals during its interpretation of “Mr. Roboto”.

If one disregards title, which makes think of a B film, this song remains effective diablement on scene. Yesterday, it was been useful very hot, thanks to happy tight putting the battery and the synthetizers ahead. That does not have dérougi until the moment when, as on the album, Dennis DeYoung repeated the Kilroy words, as to show that the history did nothing but start. The spectacle was still young, but what imports! Crowd, upright, redemandait some.

“You are formidable, answered the artist, always in the language of Michel Tremblay. Live Quebec! Live Quebec!” The public, which counted a strong proportion of quadragénaires, had already been spoiled, it is necessary to say. When the musicians proposed “Parts Off Eight”, inter alia, they were entitled to the one of these turns in Russian mountains whose progressive rock'n'roll - so popular on our premises in the Seventies - was if prodigal.

This part started with the manner of a front ballade of taking a color plus rock'n'roll, prelude to another change of atmosphere marked by references to the classical music. A true song with strap hinges. In the same kind, “Walls Caste” was typified even, especially at the time of the intervention of the synthetizers. After a very slow opening modulated by the low one, the tension increased, leading to a solo of guitar liberator.

Before the departure of the representative of the Daily newspaper, hour of fallen obliges, Dennis DeYoung and its accomplices revealed another aspect of their personality by presenting “Rockin' In The Paradise”. One would have said a mixture of Queen and of Jerry Lee Lewis, so much this part was unslung, far from the theatrical concoctions mentioned above. Once again, people expressed their joy while whistling. For a little, one would have believed that Saguenéens had just gained the Memorial cut. Or that scrapes it had just passed in their street.
