Whose brilliant idea was it to release Nothing Ever Goes As Planned as the third single off of Paradise Theatre?? Don't most of you think that Snowblind was the logical choice?? Was Snowblind ever released as a single??

Do any of you see any coorlation between Tommy's efforts on Pieces Of Eight to that of Paradise Theatre? I would compare Blue Collar Man to Too Much Time On My Hands. Renegade to Snowblind and Sing For The Day to She Cares. At the end of Sing For The Day Tommy sings about losing the girl to father time, and in She Cares he drops the girl for someone younger.

Finally, How much money did Styx make from the Paradise Theatre album and tour? Did they make or lose on Kilroy??

Yogi,

On Kilroy, everything I have ever read refers to them loosing a ton of money on the tour because of the size of the venues they played and the cost of production. But, I think that really refers to the early shows when they were doing the theatre circuit in March and April.

I would think that when they moved the show to arenas that sat 10,00 to 15,000 the show turned profitable.

In many cases back then, the shows were break even with the real money coming from the souvenir booth. Even back then they sell 5000 shirts at $20 a shirt, add the souvenir books and other paraphanalia that was being sold and the cottage industry could turn a gross of $200,000 a night.

"Snowblind" was released only as a promotional single; along with "Rockin' The Paradise". They both had some success on the rock charts, but that's it.

I really like "Snowblind"(better on "CITA"), and it probably would have been a bigger hit than "Nothing Ever Goes As Planned", but it doesn't really surprise me that it wasn't tried as a single. At that point in the game, I'm not sure who was having the control over the singles, but "Snowblind" probably didn't strike them as a Top 40 kind of song..

What does surprise me is that they didn't try "Rockin' The Paradise". I actually like "Nothing Every Goes As Planned", but it was such a departure for them. I'm sure people who heard it on the radio(all 7 of them) were like, "huh"? "Rockin The Paradise" is very commercial, and the chorus sounds very '80s. It just surprised me when I found out it wasn't ever released. The video was also fairly popular, if I'm not mistaken.

Snowblind would never have charted on the US top 40. It was not a pop song - it was too dark, too weird, and too "heavy" in the middle. I think it was released to rock radio after Rockin The Paradise, but did not fare nearly as well. (Rockin The Paradise was a top 10 rock track smash). Snowblind may have hit top 30 on the rock chart, but it really did not leave much of a mark. Personally, Snowblind has never been one of my favorites on the album. One other thing - Tommy did not write any part of Snowblind - it was evidently written by JY and Dennis.

I would agree that Rockin The Paradise should have been the third pop single. Yes, it was a little bit "hard rock" but could have done reasonably well on the pop charts too.
