In your opinion, what should have been a Styx single that never was? In other words, what do you think would have done very well if a mass audience heard it?

My choice...Pieces of Eight should have been the first single off Pieces of Eight. Instead it was never released. That was a missed oppourtunity.

Pieces of Eight then Renegade then Blue Collar Man... You would have had two top ten singles IMHO!!

I agree with you 100% - KYAG could have been a HUGE success story. What are the chances are that it would have taken off? Dunno probably small, but out of every song on that album, it was the ONLY ONE that had a chance of breaking through to teens today.

For early Styx, while I like Shooz and Midnight Ride, I am not sure they were mainstream enough even in the 70s to be mainstream singles. But you never know..

First Time as a follow up to Babe would have been a monster hit. It has a much more rock-ish side to it than Babe did - similar but not quite to the extreme that Lady did.

Queen of Spades would have made a great radio single... but likely wouldn't have sold like the others... it was a different time so perhaps it would have.

However I will always contend that what held Styx back from a return to the Aerosmith-style reincarnated greatness is the fact that Dennis was not allowed to produce the single for "I Will Be Your Witness".... songs like that don't come around every day. The time was right for that track... and even though it's a great song and sounds good... it's missing the magical flare that the other Styx hits had. I really think that if Dennis has engineered/produced that track, it would have been a monster. Oh well.

Well, I just spent a decent amount of time on a somewhat detailed message, and when I attempted to send, I was asked to again enter my information, and the whole message was gone.. I had already been asked to enter my info two times before I was even able to begin posting in the first place.. sorry, I just had to rant for a second..

To get to the point a little faster this time, I think "Waiting For Our Time" was a bad choice for the first single off of "Cyclorama", there just wasn't anything about it to really make anyone notice.

The first song that really pulled me in was "These Are The Times". I think about the mood that was in the air around that time, with the war just beginning in Iraq, and I think the song really kind of fit. Could the public had warmed up to a song that had J.Y. on lead? I think he sounded good on the song, but he doesn't have the most commercial sound.

If we are just going by the most commercial, "Together" or "Yes, I Can" should have tried. Neither would have had a chance in hell on Classic Rock radio, but the band could have tried to get their foot in the door of the Adult Top 40, Adult Contemporary, and maybe even the Top 40.

I agree totally about "I Will Be Your Witness", but that's another one that I don't think Classic Rock would have given too much rotation. They would have had to try to target the Adult Top 40 on that one, too.

I know "Light Up" supposedly was a single, but I still can't believe it didn't chart at all.

How about "Rockin' The Paradise" and "Haven't We Been Here Before?"? "Haven't We Been Here" would have been a much better choice than "High Time".

I know it was called a Stairway To Heaven rip off by many rock'critics'( same critics that think Bruce is a wordsmith)( Tunnel Of Love, Dancing In The Dark etc...) What a hack!!

Anyway, if it wasnt released as a single, it sure could of been Styx's Stairway To Heaven.

The book that I have claims the only singles from "Equinox" were "Lorelei" and "Light Up". "Lorelei" was a moderate Top 40 hit, peaking at #27, while "Light Up" failed to chart. "Suite Madame Blue" is the only song I have ever heard from "Equinox" on the radio, but I guess they didn't think it was radio friendly enough to be a Top 40 kind of song.

I read somewhere that Suite Madame Blue was released as a 'live' single. Since I never read anywhere else that it was released as a single I thought maybe I dreamed that up. Still I swear I read that somewhere.


Another thing I'think' that I remember, and this is off the topic but, I was a huge Miami Vice fan back in the day. Anyway, I remember Half Penny/ Two Penny was played as background music in one of their shows. Did I dream that one up too??????
