Riverfest lineup set
Riverfest will be Rockfest this year.
The city's annual festival, set for July 13-16 at Riverside Park, will feature a variety of rock acts this year in an effort to boost the festival's numbers. Event director Rod Beaudoin said rock groups have outsold other genres, including country, funk and rap.
“Rock sells,” Beaudoin said. “Country just hasn't sold for us.”
Music kicks off
Thursday night, July 13, with Head East and Tesla performing on the festival's main stage sponsored by the Beloit Daily News. Head East is known for songs such as “Never Been Any Reason” and “Love Me Tonight.” Tesla, popular during the late 1980s and through the 1990s, is best known for its hit “Signs” which appeared on the 1990 “Five Man Acoustical Jam” album.
On Friday, Loverboy and REO Speedwagon are set to perform. Loverboy is a 1980s rock band known for songs such as “Working for the Weekend,” “Lucky Ones” and “Turn Me Loose.” REO makes a return to Riverfest, having played at the festival in 1991, 1995 and 2001. They are expected to perform hits such as “Keep on Loving You” and “Ridin' the Storm Out.”
Headlining Saturday's entertainment will be Styx, Fog Hat and The Outlaws. Fog Hat had hits in the 1970s, including “Fool for the City” and “Slow Ride.” Styx is also marking a return to Beloit, having played previously at the festival in 1999. The group is expected to play hits such as “Babe” and “Too Much Time on My Hands.”
Sunday night's main acts have yet to confirm the date with Riverfest officials, something Beaudoin hopes is finalized in a few weeks. The acts, described by Beaudoin as “modern rock” will be announced when contracts are signed.
Beaudoin said tickets are already selling well for REO and Styx. He expects tickets to the other groups to begin selling once word gets out they are performing in Beloit.
In addition to national acts, a number of local acts are scheduled to perform at Riverfest '06. Those acts will take the stage in the Harry Moore Pavilion or in the food court as the north stage has been eliminated this year.
Riverfest will run from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, July 14, noon to midnight Saturday, July 15, and noon to midnight Sunday, July 16.
General admission tickets are now on sale. General admission tickets can be bought at the discounted price of $8 for adults and $2 for children until May 9, and $10 for adults and $2.50 for children from May 10 to June 30. After July 1, tickets will be $12 for adults and $3 for children.
Tickets for the main stage acts are also on sale. Reserve seating before May 9 can be purchased for $22.50. Tickets between May 10 and June 30 are $25, and reserved seating after July 1 is $30.
