Am I the only one who watched last night? Chris did "Renegage" last night and he was awesome. I voted for him 20 times!

Um, there is already a thread about this.

That thread takes to long to scroll through.

Music Girl, he is the real deal. What a show, a Styx song and a Beatles song in one hour. Taylor Hicks for all of his Joe Cocker silliness, is a very good singer. But my man Chris rocks. He did Tommy total justice on that one. The guy is versatile as well, he does great on rockers and ballads. Seriously the dude could front almost any band around today, a rare gem on AI. He doesn't make Paula cry though...

Elliot makes me cry, I cry every time he I have listen to him sing, look at him, or watch his silly hand gestures :x . He really gets on my nerves. Nothing against him, but I wish he was out already. Hoping Taylor wins.-ERIC

You would think with Paula's popularity, she would cut another album.

Who the heck is NOT voting is more like it.

Sorry to see Chris go, but Taylor is my choice for this. For all his wackiness, he is a good singer/songwriter. I bought his CD "Under the Radar" and it is very, very good. Not that he will be allowed to put out good, personal songs such as the ones on that CD once he enters the holy hell of the post-American Idol machine.

Yeah - tho, I think Kelly's done pretty well with her stuff. For pop music, it's better than most. I like Because of You.

I'm gonna have to take your word on taylor. I just don't see it. His voice is marginal at best, and his wackiness reads as spastic to me. The last few weeks should be interesting. I would have not predicted the final 3 to be what we have left.

Oh I like Kelly, too, but she truly has an amazing voice. And, well, a fellow Texan... :)

As to Taylor. I am a fan of white-boy soul singers -- Robert Palmer, Michael McDonald. Taylor falls into that backet for me as well. I was hooked when he sang Sam Cooke at his audition. So different So NOT American Idol. I am amazed he has gone as far as he has because the Idol people, and Simon, just despise him. Which, of course, makes me like him even more.

His CD is sort of the anti-American Idol. Very soulful, quieter type songs and a real variety of styles. He has a very good backup band, too, and they shine on this CD.

I agree with you about the final 3. I truly felt it would be something different, although I figured Katharine would be there.

I'll have to give his album a listen. I was sure he and Chris would be in the final two.

I hope Taylor wins, or is at least in the final 2.

So how would you rate it. Does it remind you of anyone or group or style of music? I know questions questions-ERIC

I had listened to a couple of Taylor's songs that were posted on a PBS website and liked them very much.

This album does not really sound like anyone. It sounds like him. His vocals are very smooth and pleasing. I guess one would describe the tracks as bluesy, soulful. (I guess that is a big DUH, for Taylor, no?)

What surprised me was his songwriting skill. I really was quite taken by the level of sophistication of both the music and the lyrics. Autobiographical, no doubt, but very original in his lyric writing.

Since this was a self-produced CD, it lacks somewhat in the production department, but for what it was, it is actually quite good. His backing band is excellent.

If you want to hear samples of his music, there are a number of sites online that offer mp3's of this album and another one he did that you can no longer buy, plus some live concert tracks he has done.

Back to the subject! Just heard Chris say on Idol Extra his favorite performance was "Renegade". He loved singing Styx! Yay!

Didn't keep him on the show, though.

Well, to be honest, Kelly has distanced herself from American Idol. She now has much more to room to do "personal" work.

I am also surprised that Taylor has gone this far. But I just cannot see where they will "market" him. He looks old and acts like a young child who has eaten too many candy bars. But he does sing well and I really liked his version of In The Ghetto. As much as I liked Chris, his performances were not that good. Elvis just did not work for him. He seemed very wooden...no personality in the songs.

This is true, but she was writing with Aguilara right outta the gate, as I recall. Miss Independent came out during season 2 of Idol (not that I pay attention - lol - and not that M.I. was very good). I guess the point I was making was that American Idol is capable of finding real talent, not just bubblegum wannabes. She blows Britney and the Simpson sisters out of the park.

Now I'm more curious than ever about this CD of Taylor's, although I haveto agree with you that he's going to be hard to market. Of course, now that Chris is gone, the only logical choice would be Catharine. Elliott Ya-mon certainly isn't a pop idol poster child.

That would be very cool. I did not hear Chris sing Hemmorage but I think he should jump at the opportunity. He would be setting himself up with an established band and he wopuld be able to build some good relationships with in the business. AND it would keep him out of the AI shadow.

I loved Bo last year, but his first CD (while ralther good) is still a watered down popy version of what he does. Who would want to do that after "winning" (or even 2nd as is the case)? And I would imagine AI has gotten smarter about their contracts due to the Kelly Clarkson thing....

This dude has the pipes to front any band. I like Taylor too, very different huh. I think the problem with AI is it is sort of to week to week. Elliot gave a strong performanc on the Elvis based songs. But he had not done that in several weeks. I figured Cat was out, because Elvis songs don't normally play strong to a female voice. You gotta give the King his props, he was a GREAT singer. I was praying Chris would do Suspicous Minds, and I thought he did great with it. I was laughing when Cat did Hound Dog, that was pure Karoke. But you know, give Elliot his due, the one song he did by Elvis, If I can Dream was a stretch but he kicked ass with it. I just think the AI voting should be for sustainability through out the competition, and I think based on that Chris distanced himself from the others. My vote is for Taylor Hicks from Birmingham now.
