For some odd reason you have to be at least 18 to view this non-sense... Some people have never seen it... Here it is

PS: I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE this song!

Very 80's.
And Tommy waving goodbye toward the end.
Were there 2 versions of this video made? I seem to remember a different version.

That's the one I remember - only I was 13 at the time and thought it was GREAT. lol
Speaking of, where's the pendulous "Haven't We Been Here Before" video?

This one? It's really poor quality though.

When I first got VH1 Classic, several of these videos, including "Music Time" were in pretty heavy rotation. The first time I saw MT, I laughed my butt off. I loved it! It was very much in the spirit of some of those zany 80's videos, which was, of course, its intent.
"Haven't We Been Here Before" was shown exclusively on, I believe, Friday Night Videos, or some such program, and was/is not in the MTV archives. I have a pretty good quality version of it, but would love to see a nice, clear first gen. copy.
YouTube has certainly been an outlet for many of those rare videos.

Dang. I'd forgotten most of that video. All I remembered was the shattering glass and the pendulum swinging. It's kind of tough watching these old videos of John too. Makes me miss him a lot more.

The drum beat of Music Time has always sounded like a drum machine to me and not like a recording of human beings.
But I agree with you Zan. Watching these old videos makes you miss John.

I always enjoyed Music Time very much though it sounds very dated now. I was happy that they were trying different things and that not everything released as a single had to be serious or a power ballad. Great fun!
Someone once told me that they heard Tommy hadn't actually played on that but I never got official confirmation on that.

Tommy had nothing to do with it. The label made him wave goodbye in a separate shoot that was edited in.
Funny

I've got to say it........
This video brings this to my mind......
What would it look like of David Lee Roth did a video to a Devo song?
MUSIC TIME!!! Look at it - it makes me grin - and I happen to like the song and the video - comical

I didn't think Tommy was still in the band when they did that. I didn't recall that they had him waving at the end in the video.
Thanks Styxfan!

You have to remember that at the time of this release, the fact that Tommy actually left the band was kinda being hidden. They were just on a short hiatus to do a solo album. at least so the story went.

Right. I remember the interviews of that time had Dennis saying, "We're just taking a rest. I'm going to have to talk to Tommy". And to his credit, he did wait even though the others wanted to keep going with or without Tommy(or so I hear). Of course it helped that Dennis was also offered a solo deal too to occupy his time.

Man, that video has to be one of the worst I've seen. What's with the moon-men?? It looks like it was aimed at 4-year-olds. No wonder Tommy left!! DDY ruins the whole video, which was probably all his idea.

Just heard an interview (5-18_96) from Dennis where he comments on Tommy leaving Styx and the song Music Time. In it he says that Tommy DID play and sing on Music Time but had left the band prior to the making of the video.
If you want to hear the interview, PM me and I'll give ya a link to listen to it.
