Here's your latest update you crazy Carrot fans - LOL
Where's Zan? I can't wait for the reviews
Hello Friends,
We're in Long Island, New York looking forward to our show with Foreigner tonight at Jones Beach, but to be honest it's going to be tough to beat what happened last night in Cleveland. Not just tonight but for a long, long time, this memory of our concert with CYO and the chorus will be there putting a smile on our faces. If you were there, I don't have to explain a thing, but for those of you who are just hearing about it I'm not quite sure how to encapsulate it within the text this web format will allow. The good news is that it was filmed in beautifully lit, wonderfully produced, directed and recorded in High Definition for broadcast later this year. What started out as a reasonably big undertaking--having STYX perform with CYO's 115 piece orchestra and 60 member chorus for their year-end event--exploded into the season opener at Cleveland's Blossom Music Center and a full blown television production. Hey, we're STYX--anything worth doing is worth doing to the max, right?
What we witnessed was not only the orchestra and chorus embracing our music--21 challenging charts' worth--but we saw them take ownership of the music and lift it to a place we never knew existed. They were simply remarkable.
At one point during a spontaneous burst of energy, the orchestra left their seats and gathered in clusters of arms-raised dancing and grooving to the music and in the excitement the first chair cellist's instrument got knocked over and trashed. I knew that their two biggest orchestral numbers were only two songs away, one featuring this cellist in a solo at the beginning of "Fooling yourself" where he starts out all by himself. Then I saw another cellist come forward and trade instruments with him. I looked at him with a "are you cool?" sort of expression and he smiled and winked back letting me know he was indeed. And he played it the best I ever heard in any rehearsal. It was one moment after another that happened organically all night long. Afterwards some of us went to the video truck to take a look and we were blown away.
To Liza Grossman and everyone involved at CYO & company, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for inviting us into your world and letting us take you into ours. We'll be talking about this one for the rest of our days.
Love,
Tommy Shaw

I dunno.......I've seen and heard Dennis with an Orchestra, would probably give this a spin in the DVD player , if it were released.
Hopefully, Netflix would pick it up so I could "try before I buy".........and Larry's voice would be drowned out by the orchestra on any DDY songs
I suppose it's about as close as I will come to any FREAKIN NEW Styx ( or DDY ) music in 2006.................sigh.

Tommy said they debuted 2 new songs at the concert and Ricky has said they have some songs almost ready to go.
My guess is dvd in November with a February to April CD Release next year.
My guess due to comments I've read and the way companies like to stagger releases. If they release the dvd in the fall (ie the Christmas music) it would make no sense to release a new cd.

I'd write a review, but I won't because...
1. There are no appropriate words to describe how awesome & amazing this show was.
2. Tommy's already said everything better than I ever could
3. Froy will only have his usual banter to add.
4. I wouldn't want Ash's head to explode when I mentioned the 2 new non-Christmas songs.
5. The inevitable would happen, and people would start arguing over who's orchestra show was better.
But the show was one of, if not THE best Styx show I've ever seen, and the girl on first violin was the custest thing ever.
Very glad I made it up there.

I am sure the show was entertaining. Any show with TS will be, and Todd is probably the best drummer out there today. I just cannot get over the fact that James JY Young would play with an orchestra and a choir. But it was not a children's choir, so I guess that was how he can pass it off as not being, oh lets say a bit hypocritical. Before you guys jump me, simply read his own words in this own interviews to see what I am saying.

I'm glad you had a good time. Not really interested much in this show. Irony aside, this really didn't do much for me. I'm sure it'll be a big seller when they start hawking DVD's and yet-another-freakin live album out of the deal. Truthfully, I wasn't really all that interested to begin with.
Sounds like things went well - which is cool... but making comments about how you won't make comments so other people won't comment is kinda silly. If you want to tell us about your experience, then do so and let the pettiness of others speak for itself. Thats what I did with New Jersey.

Well, thanks, I think. lol
But hey - did we mention that there are new songs not previously released that will be on this yet-another freakin live album? *g*Sounds like things went well - which is cool... but making comments about how you won't make comments so other people won't comment is kinda silly. True...although I have been reading the comments since before this show happened. I've been reading Styx boards for seven years. It's not a shot in the dark here. I was asked to post a review, so I felt an explanation why I wasn't posting one was appropriate. Otherwise, I would not have said a word about it. I'm not interested in fueling the pettiness, regardless of whether it speaaks for itself or not.

The assumption you make is that your comments will fuel or not fuel an argument that will go on regardless.
The net result: You've censored yourself by allowing other people to dictate what you will or will not do based on a perceived consequence.
In short: You don't want the bullshit of dealing with what people who didn't go to the show would think if you posted your review.
I understand why - I'm just surprised you allowed it to affect you like that. You seemed pretty unflappable .... sorta.
Anyway, if you have some kind of blanket thoughts you've bantered with others, I'd love to hear them - so drop them in my PM if you get a chance. If you've not done that (written them up) then don't do so on my accord.
I also think someone said some of you got together. Any pictures?

I wish I remembered to snap some pictures of the get together. I just wasn't thinking at that point. I have a few pics of the orhcestra kids after it was all over, hugging each other and dancing, laughing and crying - it was quite emotional for them.
As far as me being affected by the BS, nah, it's more like I just don't give much of a flip anymore. *I* thought the show was fabulous - one of, if not THE best of Styx shows I've ever seen...That's good enough for me. I'm really just bored with the pissing contests here about who's better than who, who's greedy, hypocrital, washed up, unoriginal, and the list, as we all know, goes on. It's just so...anti-climactic, especially after the extraordinary stuff I was part of on Thursday. That stuff used to affect me - which is why I participated a lot more than I do now, but these days, it kinda leaves me...bleh. I do fall into old habits occasionally, but for the most part, I do try to keep it at arm's length.
I sent you a PM with some thoughts I jotted down on the Indra list. I doubt I'll go into much more detail anywhere - words couldn't do that show justice, anyway.

Wow so you flew up to Cleveland and it sounds like it was a worthwhile trip. Are you planning on seeing Glen Burtnik and Dennis too? The thing that is so great about both of the entities touring is that you really have the opportunity to see 2 great shows.

I used to say the same thing back when Glen was with Styx, and Tommy was with Damn Yankees. I guess I was in the minority there. lol...oh well.
And sure - if DDY and Glen ever make it down my way, I will surely attend. I just got back from seeing Glen in Atlanta last month, in fact.

Who sang lead on Styx's two new songs? What type tempo songs were they?? They could be compared to ????
I saw the set list for one of Glen's 2.5 hour shows. It looked totally awesome. Do you know if there are any quality boots of his shows?
Finally does Glen have a band, or is it an entire acustic set??

umm...I sorta got the Ambition album vibe from "Just Be" and an "Everything is Cool"(?maybe) vibe from "Everything, All the Time."
EATT was more of an upbeat rock song, and JB was really beautiful, but not in a Paradise Sorta way...More like "Kiss me Hello" with an Ambition feel, if I'm painting any kind of clear picture here. lol
Both were sung by Tommy. I saw the set list for one of Glen's 2.5 hour
shows. It looked totally awesome. Do you know if there are any quality boots of his shows?
If there are any, they didn't come from me. LOL
However, there are a few short video clips from his Atlanta stint...Let me see if I can locate the links...Ah! here they are:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhSmI93qdPk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sMplGORaWY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyJY7QkQbU0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0o9DVYmhAA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fCxCoqUS9c
(The kid at the very end belongs to me - Glen told her to come sit up there for the remainder of the show. lol)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ57hkEvGKU (from Jen's collection)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ieseck27_8Q (#2 of Jen's)
That should help a little...As far as quality goes, Jen's got me beat, but hey, just give me plenty - forget about the quality!
Finally does Glen have a band, or is it an entire acustic set??
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think GB plays with a band occasionally in Jersey/NY, but not for smaller shows. I know in Atlanta, he's always been by himself or with Beau accompanying him. Hope that helps.

Ah so should we make anything out of the fact that you will travel farther to see Styx than GB/DDY?!?!?

Oh, I think most minds here already know the answer to that one. lol
Well, in truth, this was the first time I have travelled to see Styx in quite some time, and that was because this was an event of sorts, but...No, I won't travel far to see DDY, even if Glen is guest-starring. I'd rather travel to see Glen do a solo show, especially when he's playing close to where my mom lives - or when he does another live show in Jersey with a live band...if finances allow and I'm not playing anywhere, myself that night.
