TIME TO RECREATE THE MAGIC....

Ok folks its time for Styx to call it quits for a year and for the classic line up and Todd to tour in 2007....this line up has become stale with the continuous touring and not changing the setlist.......i will not sit here and slate Larry as he has performed admirably under difficult circumstances but as i have become more dissalussioned with the current Styx i have become more aware of how much i miss Styx with DDY....i was never a fan of songs like First Time and some of his other ballads and another fast song that i wont mention but look at the music that has been created by the classic line up.....CRYSTAL BALL, SMB, COME SAIL AWAY, GREAT WHITE HOPE, CASTLE WALLS, RENEGADE, QOS, ETC ETC ETC.....and i now really miss the classic line up doing their stuff....it has taken a lot longer than most to come round to the fact that Styx is DDY..TS..JY..CP..AND TS, AND ITS TIME THEY GOT TOGETHER HAD EVERYTHING OUT IN THE OPEN ....RECORDED A CD AND TOURED....so in my opinion the current band needs to stop and maybe a farewell cd and tour needs to be done......

Darren,

We all know this ain't gonna happen. There are lots of reasons that us hardcore fans would love to see them get back together, but the truth are both factions are somewhat happy doing what they are doing.

I think most here will agree with what is missing now is the mixture of ballads and rock. But Tommy and JY want to tour until they drop and Dennis is happy "touring" weekends.

Someday they may get back together, but not in thenext couple of years. The curent lineup wants to put out at lest one more cd together before they would even think of it.

The Beach Boys are putting their differences aside and they're going to reunite for the first time in 10 years.

Froy! How did you get Darren's password??? lol

Seriously? If it happened, I'd go. I never miss an opportunity to see Styx. I didn't in '91, I didn't in '96, '99, and I didn't in '03. But do I wish for Dennis to come back? He's doing well on his own!

And what would Froy have to bitch about???

Bravo Brother you have finally seen the light
Im sure it was the Doctor video that helped
Gowan made a fool out of himself singing that song and it just shows how shitty current STYX had become
I totally agree its time to put the current STYX to sleep forever and come back with Dennis in 2008
Sure Dennis wrote some crap and so did Shaw but who cares
Come back and put a setlist and a show together that will blow everyone away. I said this years ago.
Darren and Froy best buddies

I figured you would be the first one to pipe in
Im glad current STYX is happy playing in front of 300 fans and Gowan is making a total ass out of himself
Shows how brain dead these guys are.
Im sure Dennis is happy doing his solo thing but he would drop it in 5 seconds to be in STYX again
He is and always was the smartest guy in that band.

There is not going to be anymore STYX cds with the current lineup bank on that its a loser. No record company is going to buy this joke,

Well Darren, I can see where you are coming from. Why do you think I haven't seen them live since 03? At least back then they were throwing new material into the setlist!

I thought the Europe tour last year was brilliant, throwing in some tunes they hadn't played in a while, along with some of the BBT tunes, BUT since then, they really haven't tried to do anything else (Locomotive Breath or Can't make peace? anyone)? since.

I know the TV show is coming later on in the year (supposedly) with two new songs but I think it could be too little to late.

But alas, I can't see Dennis, JY and Tommy working things out.. also, I can't see Dennis being the keyboard master like he once was.. remember the last show he did with him? He was horrible! Plus he had also said to Tommy in 96 that he wanted to hire a keyboard player, he just wanted ot be frontman.. From what I've heard about his solo shows, he doesn't play keyboards anymore.

We'll see if New Door/Universal still wants to have them record a new CD.

But Darren, just curious, did you see them live recently or are you going by the crappy You Tube/Myspace files floating around?

Have a gooder..

I know, but still. They just might get together and do a few shows, anything can happen.

I do like how things are with Dennis on his own, but it would be nice just one night to see them on stage and hear them harmonize again with my favorite songs. But I guess it would be kind of bad too knowing all the hurtful things that were said in the past and everything that was done to each other.

I'm an admitted Tommy and J.Y. fan, so it doesn't break my heart that DDY isn't in the band anymore. Saying that, I wouldn't sneeze if he came back...as long as his heart was in it, and they still performed top-notch shows.
I've seen the re-vamped Styx line-up several times over the past few years, and I've always been impressed with them. The last time, in Germany, was phenomenal. I never had the chance to see the original line-up, apart from videos of concerts, but from what I've seen, they seem a lot more energetic on stage now, and they look like they're having a helluva time.
To be honest, I'm more interested in having them tour than make a CD. It would be nice to see them mix up the setlist a bit more (instead of playing a medley of some of the album tracks, why not drop a couple of standards to play the full length versions?), but I feel a CD, even with the original line-up would be a disappointment. I just don't think the magic that was there for the classic '70s albums can be recreated. And to have a tour to support an original line-up album, with Tommy, DDY, and JY gritted each others teeth just to be about each other doesn't sound appealing at all.

I'm sorry... but Dennis doesn't need those guys - just as I'm sure that Tommy and JY feel they don't need Dennis. Dennis does just fine on his own and I'm not sure I'd want to sacrifice the songs Dennis plays just to accommodate Tommy and JY. (for the record, I'm sure there are current Styx fans who feel the same way I do in reverse)

You can't "re-create the magic" when the magic is dead and gone. There has been too much done and even more that has been said. JY has seen fit to set as many fires to as many bridges as he's come across over the years beginning with his "ice hockey on the river Styx" comment on VH1.

If Dennis does it... and if JY is part of it.... then I will lose even more respect for JY, and I'll be severely disappointed in Dennis - because the reasons for doing it won't be about the music or about the fans - but about the money.

To ask for something so disingenuous to happen as a reunited Styx is really asking from the pit of selfishness. We'd want it for our own selfish reasons, and not for the right reasons. Because in our heart of hearts - we know the "right" reasons are not possible in this climate.

I think all that hot Florida sun is getting to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you need some of this lovely Manchester rain to get you thinking straight again LOL
Nice thought though, but I agree with Ash on this , I would lose respect for both sides if they backtracked on all that has been said, a few gigs with gritted teeth just for the money wouldn't be fair, plus I've just shelled out £80 to see Deep Purple next year on the strength of Styx as special guests. If Dennis came back we wouldn't see them again over here, but I would deffo come to the States to see that

For anyone whose parents are divorced, you must be familiar with the concept that once upon a time, these people were happy together and shared what they believed was "magic." You must also be acquainted with the notion that at some point, both of them realized that magic was long gone, and all that was left was two angry and miserable people who function and live much better without the other one.

Guess what? They're not going to get back together. Sure they might learn to be civil, they might be at the same functions (graduation, weddings, funerals...), but they aren't ever gonna be a couple again. Why? because it didn't work the first several times they tried to reconcile!

You know, I enjoy coffee, and I like to drink soda too, but would I want them mixed together in the same glass? *barf*

Dennis & Styx are two completely different types of show anymore. To bring them back together would be depressing (for me, anyway). The only way it might be cool is if they kept Lawrence too - hey, if Denny doesn't want to play keys anymore, it's feasible. But still...nah...just thinking out loud here. It would still most likely be a train wreck.

The last glimpse of magic Darren's fantasy Styx had was a brief moment in 1996 - and before that was 1981.

I agree that I enjoy the shows more when they play different stuff.
And Jody, they played "Don't Make Sense" at the CYO show.

Ash with all do respect its not a matter of who needs who
This is a matter of doing the right thing
I do not care who is at fault here STYX is a band that Dennis Deyoung should be a part of not Larry Gowan
STYX fans from all around the world would be happy if they did a new cd and a tour . I would even say they should have Glen play the bass if Chuck could not handle a full tour.
It would be a STYX UNION not a STYX REunion.

You can't "re-create the magic" when the magic is dead and gone.

Really who say;s so?
John Fogerty recreated the magic
Pink Floyd di it as well
If they hit the satge with no new material and played songs like
You Need Love Suite Madmoiselle Great White Hope Pieces of 8
The Message -Lords of The Rings ect how freaked out would you be?

There has been too much done and even more that has been said. JY has seen fit to set as many fires to as many bridges as he's come across over the years beginning with his "ice hockey on the river Styx" comment on VH1

Who cares what big mouth has said
For years he said great things about Dennis
Its a wash
If Dennis does it... and if JY is part of it.... then I will lose even more respect for JY,

I have lost all respect for JY already but would get some back if the guy came to his senses
Heck I will buy him breakfast this time,

and I'll be severely disappointed in Dennis - because the reasons for doing it won't be about the music or about the fans - but about the money

Why do you say that?
Who knows if there will be big money
Nobody really knows.
If Dennis did it this would be for the love of STYX PERIOD>

To ask for something so disingenuous to happen as a reunited Styx is really asking from the pit of selfishness

TO not ask is from the pit of foolishness,

We'd want it for our own selfish reasons, and not for the right reasons.

We want it for any reason and we also do not need a reason

You know, I haven't tried it, so I guess I can't say for sure, but I have my reservations. lol

How about this analogy: I like orange juice, and i like to brush my teeth, but do enjoy drinking Orange Juice after brushing my teeth?

The last concert I saw before the CYO was in April, and they played "One Way Out," which I'd never heard them play before. They also did "These are the Times," "One With Everything" and I think "Snowblind," which has been stowed away from sometime.

I think the opposite. If Dennis did get back with Styx it would NOT be about money, but it would be FOR the fans and also an attempt to try and reinvent the glory years.

I will disagree again with the shows( Styx now vs Dennis now) being different. I saw Dennis with an orchestra and he rocked. Shit Styx recently played with an orchestra and childrens chior, and Tommy made it sound like they had just split the atom. Hell Glen rocks as much or MOORE as anyone in Styx and he is now playing with Dennis. To say Dennis's show is not a rock show is absurd.

I am not saying that they should do one thing or the other, but Glen SURE adds to Dennis. Add this to the way Styx under used then lost Glen was a HUGE HUGE mistake in my book.

Styx now is GREAT, but Styx with Dennis and GLEN back again would be even better.

Dennis's voice on their epic songs are what made the band. I support em all but this fan WOULD want Dennis back. And as stated earlier if he did come back money would NOT be the reason at all.
