So what? You think that is uncommon? Neal Schon has "berated" ROR for just as long as JY has Kilroy. In fact, they have made VERY similar statements with the 'back to the roots', and "we're a rock band", and "too many ballads", and "we're now a band" stuff.
That's life, get over it already. JY thinks DDY's direction hurt the unity of the "band", and he didn't like some of the songs. He's entitled to that opinion - he LIVED it. You didn't. He can talk about it all he wants - and I agree with much of what he says.
The anger with this man runs so deep that he now is openly critical of music that he and Dennis made together.
You are reading anger into his statements. The only 'anger' I read here is by some those who post in this forum.
The other thing that is so interesting is that for some reason, JY didn't have a problem with Mr. Roboto when Volkswaagen wanted to use it for that commercial.
How do you know? Just because his public persona didn't express it in the same way he does today?
And obviously, he must not have a problem with those Greatest Hit royalty checks, which let's face it, is the only Styx album selling these days in any great quantities.
Of course...but, that doesn't mean he has to LIKE THE SONGS.
But the problem with Greatest Hits, is almost half the songs on it are those crappy little ballads that JY despises.
The problem is that certain fans can't recognize that those shitty ballads and DDY's direction derailed Styx following Kilroy and continued causing problems through BNW. So, now that Dennis is out of the band, and JY speaks his mind about everything, he's wrong for it....and Dennis is faultless. I'm not going to subscribe to that view of the situation.
So, I guess JY's hating of select Styx songs is really only apparent when the almighty dollar isn't involved.
No, it became apparent as soon as Dennis exited the band and there was no reason to hold it back any longer.
