Kilroy Was Here

Does anyone remember the movie that Styx put out on Laser Disk for Kilroy Was Here? They showed a little bit of it during the opening of the Caught In The Act Live concert. I am wanting to see the entire movie. Did it ever come out on any other format? Or is there a place I can see the entire movie. They have pieces of it in Mr Roboto also. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks in advance.

Will

You can find it on ebay usually on VHS. It was never released on dvd.

The DVD copies you find on ebay were copied from someones vhs tape. I've seen a couple of them and the dvd's are pretty good quality.

I own a copy of the VHS. Its great. Down here in New Orleans, if you grew up in that time, the concert became kind of a woodstock thing...everyone was "at that show". Actually it was filmed over 5 nights at the Saenger theater in New Orleans during some of the worst local flooding in years. In fact, I remember one of the shows being cancelled for that. It is funny to see TS run through the audiance and see all the blue eye shadow, big hair, and mullets in the crowd.

There was talk about "Caught In The Act" coming out on DVD. That was about 2 years ago, if I'm not mistaken.

This was on StyxCollector a while back about it:

2-19-2004 Two New Styx Issues from Universal/A&M: Anthology and Caught In The Act Live
Universal/A&M will be releasing two new Styx items: what appears to be a 2 CD set entitled Anthology, which will most likely be another hits collection that will hopefully contain one or two rare tracks. This is probably the long awaited box set (in the industry, a 2 CD set is considered a box set). Also, it appears that finally Caught IN The Act Live will be released on DVD at the same time. We here at StyxCollector.com heard that May 4th was the release date, but according to this link, they are due out in Canada on April 27th. As soon as any more details on these releases are known, they will be posted here.

Put this on the MIA shelf along with the Deluxe Edition of Grand Illusion.

Hi Allan :)

I was hoping that it was going to be released. Dennis was working on having it released on DVD but I think it was sidetracked with the record company or something. I can't remember, maybe Bugsy or Sadie can remember - :)

A friend of mine got backstage at the Saenger during one of those nights. He said MTV did a lot of extra filming of some silly stuff like them banging on Dennis's door to try and get him to come out, things that never went anywhere, typical of MTV in those days. He also did say they were ushered out one night due to some loud arguments within the band one night.

At this point, I'm not sure how much DDY influences what is released. I think as part of whatever legal stuff happened to withdraw the lawsuit, DDY may not have much, if any, say in what is released. The band - whether or not it includes DDY - seems to have say in what is released and what is on it. For example, if DDY had more input on the 2 CD hits compilation from a few years ago, I'll bet you'd see a slightly different song selection.

But, I know DDY had some influence: the early version of the budget video compliation from Styx originally had 4 tracks on it - I have the promo. After DDY found out, one got added.

CITA I think at this point will come out only if the record company releases it without Styx approval. It's not exactly a banner moment for the band, and they would best be served with a more period live recording as that is not the classic lineup at its best.

Lord,

Do you know what dates it was recorded on?

Back in May I asked JY about CITA coming out on DVD, but I asked if it would come out as a complete show (with the album and video matching up, meaning the video would have Suite Madame Blue, Miss America, Fooling Yourself, etc). He said it would probably see the light of day but he wasnt sure when.

Now if that deluxe Grand Illusion would ever get released with that bonus conert from 77..... I saw that on the release date back in 99 or 2000 and even spoke to Elliot about it at Universal. It was a "go" and never appeared!

A birdy told me off the record that the GI was shelved by the band for a specific reason (which I can't get into - has nothing to do with DDY vs. JY or TS, tho), not the label. So they still have some control of what gets out there. The same birdy pretty much told me also that Styx remasters most likely won't happen in any form. What we've gotten so far will most likely be it unless something miraculous happens.

Yes, I do know that they do have control on what goes out there.

Miracles do happen

I will see if I still have the original ticket, it might have got trashed along the way.
