Not for any other reason than to just say - Wow! Over 20,000 people attended last night's show to see STYX! That's pretty damn impressive for a band whose hayday was back in the early eighties! No opening acts, either! day-um. My friend who was there said they were even turning people away! Must have been a hell of a show! :-D Go Styx!

I might give the current Styx a hard time occassionally, but 20,000 is impressive even if the concert was free. It's just hard to motivate us 'older folks' to do anything!

Not dreaming, Froy! It actually happened. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it while you listen to your CD. ;-)

Yogi, I'll try and get a set list and post it here. I have no idea how much tickets were.

I agree, Derri. I'm impressed as well. It doesn't happen everyday, but it's still cool.

DDY played a free concert in his home town of Chicago a few weeks ago and it was an embarrassment to see how few people showed up.

I know they seem to be playing 90 minute sets lately. Can't imagine they've done much to the set list.

According to my friend, the setlist was about 90 minutes, the show was free with a RECORD attendence, AND OVER 5,000 people were turned away! YIKES.

The set was:

Blue
Grand Illusion
Loreli
Lady
TMTOMH
SnowBlind
Walrus
Babe (j/k)
Medley
Just Be
Fooling Yourself
Miss America
CSA
Dr.
Renegade

He also mentioned that tomorrow night they're playing in Bethlehem, PA to a 6,300 seat venue and it's completely sold out. Not sure how much the tickets are, but it is a regular, paid admission show. If I had to guess, they're about $65 a pop. I guess they're having a good week!

Anyway, just passing along the info to anyone who cares.

Yes, Chicago, DDY plays free shows too. I'm not going to enter into a pissing contest. Everyone has good days and not-so-good days. I'm happy for all of them when they can generate enough interest to sell out their venues.

Well exactly. I've seen Styx in full houses and not-so-full houses. DDY's audience numbers overall I find to be more consistent, but in general, you can't expect to play the same size venue in every market unless your the most popular thing since sliced bread at the moment.

You know, I knew someone would ask me that right after I realized I forgot to ask. I know it was a park of some sort because he said "the park was to FULL capacity." Next time I talk to him, I'll ask - I'm sure he'll think I've lost my mind. lol

It says right on their website that it holds well over 15,000 people:

http://www.artpark.net/rent_the_park.php

I guess you'll have to take my friend's word that they turned away 5,000 people. He was there, and the people working the venue were very forthcoming with the information. Apparently, they'd never had an attendence like that before.

Sorry Froy. I think you're wrong on this one, babe. lol

"OUTDOOR AMPHITHEATER
Artpark's Outdoor Amphitheater rests atop the Niagara River Gorge, which provides a magnificent backdrop for special occasions. The three-tiered Outdoor Amphitheater accommodates over 15,000 patrons, hosts a stage with fully equipped sound system and provides concessions and restroom facilities. Perfect for concerts, festivals and exhibitions"

I guess so. Better get those Boycott shirts in production! You're missing a shitload of opportunities! :-D

Your bragging about a band giving away Tickets for free?
First you said 20 thousand with 5 turned away
Now we are down to 15 and who knows how many showed up.
Bottom line anyone who spends money on this band right now is throwing there money in the garbage.
The setlist stinks and so does the band
Im not wrong about that Lovin Touchin Squeezin,

I'm not bragging about anything. I'm passing along the information for anyone who cares. I'm guessing that would be you, since you seem to be moved greatly. The venue said it holds OVER 15,000, not NO MORE THAN 15,000. The park filled to capacity and they had to turn people away. Probably because it couldn't hold more than 20,000, Froy. Hence, why they did it. lol

I don't see you crying when Dennis fills a venue when the tickets are free. They showed up and watched the show, that's a big deal. Go do some stretches and take some deep breaths, Froy. Your head is about to explode. ;-)

The positive energy in here is almost mind-boggling. ;-)

I agree that OWE is a more enjoyable concert experience than Lorelei & Snowblind. If I had my way, I'd ADD it to the set and not remove something for it. If only I could write set lists for the band instead of spending my time writing these posts...lol

Zan,

Worth a shot I guess.

Sorry I couldn't work a ' ' in this post anywhere seeing as how you like them so much...wait a minute I just did.

I saw on the news the other day that STYX broke the attendance record at Beloit Riverfest when they played there last month.

I spoke with the producer of Steamboat Days in Burlington IA and he said STYX broke the attendance record there this summer as well. They were just a few miles from Ricky's home town of Mt. Pleasant IA and they played for almost 2 1/2 hours.

Looks like a good summer for the boys.

Did I expect anything else? Not really. lol...You can't mention Styx shows, new Styx songs, current band members, or anything related to the current Styx without it going anywhere else, really. However, I wanted to be clear that I was passing along information and not DELIBERATELY posting to cause trouble, even though I knew there would be those who would do the inevitable.

The article... Well, I didn't write it. ;-)

And THANKS for the  !!! I do love him so. :D

That's only because we were there, Dave. *g*

(and it WAS packed - and HOT)

Maybe I should try and find the numbers for that show to satisfy my curiosity...

What's with the "Musical DNA" line. I seem to be reading that phrase in a lot of reviews lately...

Go figure everyone is throwing insults around AGAIN.. I guess anyone who sees DDY or Styx live is going to get flamed either way. "Garbage Setlist by Styx" or "Dennis needs to fire Suzanne and change his setlist bcause I AM BORED WITH IT" blah blah "go stick your head in the toilet" (sorry Froy, that was too funny!) freaking blah...

I know for some they played an important role in their lives, but it's MUSIC people. Be thankful they are healthy enough to tour and bring enjoyment (or for this forum disapointment at whatever either group does it seems) to the people who go see them in concert whether they paid to see them or not. Some of us need to take a deep breath, count to ten and take a step back.

Life is so short and here we are complaining. Can you imagine if Dennis, Tommy or JY had to go through what Lou Gramm had to go through? Or How about what Outfield's John Spinks or the Knack's Doug Fieger is going through right now? With the latter two possibly NEVER touring again? These are two fellows that are in their late 40's (with possibly 25-35 more years left) and could possibly lose the biggest battles of their lives.

Now I know the Knack and The Outfield never sold 35 million plus albums and had the colorful history that Styx did, but they still have their fans and all they've known their entire lives is music and performing.

Regardless of how we feel, we should be thankful that both groups are healthy and out there doing their own thing. All this bitterness towards each other isn't healthy.

Or maybe it's just me..
