Ten Years Ago Today

Wow.. As I sit here on this rainy and cool August Day, my mind takes me back to 10 years ago today. Where was I? I was on the road to the most spectacular venue I have ever been to, The Gorge Amphitheater.

Why? Because the band I grew up listening to was back, and this was the closest venue to me!

Such memories, such emotion and what a show! Styx did not disappoint that night!

I wish I could share with you my original review and pictures, but I can't seem to find that section on Tommyshaw's website any longer. I would also love to share with you what Tommy had to say, but alas, it was also posted on the now defunct Paradise Theater site.

So 10 years have come, I've seen Styx 11 times since (2 more times back at the Gorge as well) then and Dennis Deyoung(with Glen) once. All great shows in their own right, but nothing, I mean nothing will come close to the magic of what that night was on Aug 11th, 1996.

All I can say, no matter who the band is playing, you MUST see a show there at least once. You'll never be the same!

Thank you for reading, and if anyone happens to have the links to this show, it would be greatly appreciated!

I would have love to have seen Styx 10 times that year, but they only did 3 Canadian gigs: Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City, the rest were very hard to get to from Alberta.

The 97 tour didn't even play the Gorge that summer.

I don't think any other gig on that tour would have been like the Gorge gig though.. That was one of a kind!

The MGM in Vegas was Magic all the way around
Met Chuck , saw the sound check , sang Boat on The River with Shaw
Forgot that we played Black Jack with JY and had breakfast with him afterwards

Awesome.

That would have been awesome..

I did have a moment like that too, in Rama in 2003.. I was talking with Tommy about a song he did with Frampton called 'I'll keep the light on'.. I only heard it once, actually go figure, 10 years ago today! They had Styx, Hunchback, Shaw Blades, JYG stuff playing on the loudspeakers..

Anyways, I asked him about it and he starts singing it in front of me.. Chills I tell you, I couldn't believe that I got an impromptu tune out of him during the meet and greet!

I'm still trying to find that song, it was so hauntingly beautiful.. I wish it would get released one day!
