Why I have now. That is sooooo true. While I think the state of Wisconsin is quite wonderful....that does seem to be a malady they have up there. Such a shame too ;)

I was on a plane when this was on - thanks for posting the link.

DDY's voice has held up very, very well over the years. He's lost very little (if any) range, and he knows the tricks to do live (i.e. when he does SMB, you'll see him pull the mic away if his voice falters for whatever reason). I would even argue his touring over the past few years has made his voice a bit stronger. Early on in the solo years he was hit or miss on some of the high notes (i.e. the one in "Desert Moon" at the end over the guitar solo), but the past few times I've seen him, he's been spot on. Same with the Roboto yell.

THe other thing you can't deny is he's got presence on stage. Good for him on this one - it may be 30 seconds live but it keeps him out there.

Wonder how much legal wrangling it took to have to say the former lead singer of Styx lol

Technically it's a bit of a loophole, because Dennis himself didn't say it, and it wasn't an advertisement. Maybe they planned it that way?

On a funny side note, a number of years ago I interviewed Steve Howe from Yes. I interviewed him right as the Symphonic Music of Yes CD was being released, and in the course of the interview he told me, off the record, that the members of the then-current Yes lineup had threatened legal action to prevent the symphonic tour that he and Bill Bruford were going to do (which was also why Jon Anderson sang one song on the CD but was then suddenly no longer available . . . his own band forcibly pulled him from the project).

The next day Steve, Bill and a bass player appeared on, of all wacky things, Regis and Kathie Lee. They did "Roundabout" (with Steve singing, ouch!), and of course it was understood that they could say it was the Symphonic Music of Yes CD, featuring former Yes members Steve Howe and Bill Bruford, but with the threat of impending litigation, under no circumstances were they to represent it as Yes. So Regis looks into the camera, and he says, in that inimitable way he has, "Here they are . . . Yyyyyyyyyes!" LOL. I bet Steve almost had a coronary.

I hope all is well.

I guarantee Dennis made SURE they knew exactly how to introduce him. :D "Formerly of Styx" had to be the JY-Approved, Litigation-Proof label applied to him by this show.

I don't know how many still watch the show, but I know it numbers more than a million. So not bad exposure to the man "formerly of Styx." :)

Hmmm.. Nice video clip... In all honesty, Hal sings Come Sail Away better than Gowan.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one..

Especially only hearing Hal sing what, 30 seconds of the song then the "come sail away" part?

I wouldnt' mind hearing him do the full song..

Mickey Mouse would sing it better than Gowan.
