Everything All The Time on Youtube

i had only saw the version with some kind of orchestra in the backround (not the CYO) and didnt know what to make of it.

However this one above is just Styx with no orchestral involvement. Obviously the audio quality isnt great, but its adequate.

anyway the song: I really like it. :D

And if you look closely Tommy has shaved his beard off. He looks much better. :)

I see Gowan had his injection of red bull
Why is Neil Young playing bass?
Its just not Styx folks
Just JY and Tommy no big deal
The 3rd piece of the puzzle is missing,
Sorry .

I sort of agree froy, i know your feelings. I love the VH1 classic vid on youtube of come sail away. how great does dennis sound? i do miss those aspects.

I like this though. Anything is better than Big bang (styx never did need to do a cover cd, but heyho I know why they put out a cd at that time because of the unexpected sucess of I am the walrus and didnt have enough original material) although the songs are played well it just doesnt count as styx music.

At least this sort of sounds like a styx style/structure of song. I like the riff the most

I appreciate we all have our differing views on the current styx. spose I'm lucky enough to be able to enjoy the post dennis incarnation aswell.

First off, thanks for posting it. That being said, while I think the hook is decent enough, the song on the whole does little for me. It is an okay song, but it doesn't grab me. Perhaps it is just this rendition. Sincerely trying to be fair here.

Thanks again.

Better than "Just Be" which plods, but I'm with Sadie ... this one also doen't do much. I've heard worse, I've heard better, but I'll reserve final judgement until I hear a full recorded version.

The verse/chorus is a bit too simplistic/repetitive, but that middle where it slows down and has all the harmonies feels like it's trying too hard to be a Styx song. That's the only way I can describe it. Then it goes into a guitar solo and feel that is totally out of step with the rest of song. As an arranger myself, I would have transitioned from that harmony part back into the chorus without that small solo. I think it would tighten it up.

Well stated, RossUK.

I am no fan of Current Styx, but I sure do appreciate when someone is and enjoys what they do and looks forward to any new music they may be putting out on CD in the future.

I agree with StyxCollector that any judgment needs to be reserved for a full studio recording. Hard to tell from these video versions.

I really like that song, it was really a good rock song! If 'that other guy' was still in the band he would not alow this song to be played.
Instead he would make another version of babe without the guitar solo.

I don't know that I agree with this sentiment. While Dennis may not be your cup of tea, he was not alone in taking the band in different directions. And in many ways, those decisions brought the band a much bigger fan base and success than if they had limited themselves.

That of course is my perception of things.

Sadie,

Just remember that the sentiment comes from somebody who thinks that Gowan sounds remarkably like Dennis. Keep that in perspective.

I am often astounded when I read that. Thanks for pointing that out.

I have nothing at all against Gowan. However I do not hear any similarities between the two. I will not take away anything from Gowan's skills in terms of key work, nor do I wish to get into the tired who is better than whom scenario. It's pointless, conjecture, and overdone. Not to mention it won't change anyone elses minds. LOL.

But thanks for the reality check.

Hard to tell quality from the audio; but stylewise, sounds like some good old-school Styx to me! :D

Can't wait for the new CD!

He wouldn't allow this song because it sucks.

He wouldn't let half the crap these idiots put out on a record because it sucks.

It’s far better then anything DDY has done recently. Oh wait….DDY hasn’t made a real studio CD in years!

btw, did you get DDY's pool closed for the winter yet?

I actually kinda liked the song. But tell me, the guy in the middle onstage on that video? Is that Riff Raff from "Rocky Horror" ???

Completely agree...I thought he had lost a note or two over the last couple of years, but the Christmas song really showcased how rich his voice still is.

Really great to hear it, but the song wasn't his best.

Me three. Not much a fan of this Christmas song of DDY's, although his vocals are stellar.

I would honestly like for him to do a CD of Christmas standards, a la "I'll Be Home for Christmas" he did on the Today show awhile back. That was just lovely.

How I love the sound of the radio and Christmas Time when It starts to snow

You do not realize how hard it is to write a Christmas song
This one is great

I think the sentiment is fine. The ending just doesn't do it for me. Overall, I think many of his other lyrics work much better than what is set forth here.

Count me in on I'll Be Home For Christmas. Even We Three Kings with Billy Corgan. I loved that one as well.

Dude,

I can understand you not liking Dennis' voice (well actually I can't but). Most people that have a beef with Dennis have an issue over his management style and his demands as the band leader (whether real or percieved). But Dennis' history of the band can't be challenged in that he wrote or co-wrote most of the songs that charted in the bands hey day and gave the band much of it's identity with the casual fan.

Dennis doesn't re-record or re-release Babe. In his mind it is as perfect today as it was the day he wrote it. If you want ot bash re-releases, that would be BLue Collar Man.

Now that this lineup has been out for 6+ years, there is a fanbase that doesn't know the history of the band and only know what they hear live. It's too bad, the classic line-up is what made what you hear today. Don't dis' hat you don't know.
