Frontiers Records is particularly excited to announce the release of Styx & the Contemporary Youth Orchestra album One With Everything on the European markets on November 10!
Styx and CYO cooperation started last year when the band was asked to join the Orchestra for a concert. Having in the past worked with solo artists, including Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Ray Manzarek, Graham Nash and Jon Anderson, it was not the first time for them to be involved with Rock music, but was definitely their premiere with a full scaled band!
Styx has performed only one other time with a symphony and "while it was a wonderful experience, we had not been inclined to revisit it until we heard that the members of this particular orchestra were all between the ages of thirteen and nineteen," says Styx singer and guitar player Tommy Shaw, adding "From the very beginning, the enthusiasm has been extraordinary. Their grasp of our music, their flexibility and willingness to go far beyond what any of us imagined, has been incredible. Director Liza Grossman is to be hailed as the heroine extraordinaire tonight, for her steady guidance and the unflinching belief in the members of CYO."
On May 25, 2006 then Styx took the stage in Cleveland for a new venture accompanied by the 115 piece Contemporary Youth Orchestra and a 60 member chorus. With a setlist that combined the band s classics, new songs and cover versions, this was a truly unique event.
This very special album will include the following 14 songs (not final order): Blue Collar Man; One With Everything; Don't Make Sense (If You Can't Make Peace); Everything, All The Time (NEW SONG); I Am The Walrus; 6. Just Be (Studio Version, NEW SONG); Fooling Yourself; Boat On The River; I Don't Need No Doctor; Crystal Ball; Too Much Time On My Hands A Criminal Mind; Miss America; Renegade.

Updated - The Frontiers version will have a different track listing compared to the US version. Both releases will have the same length in terms of music, but Frontiers will have 3 songs which will not appear on the US version. The US version will have the 'medley of hits' track.

I am looking forward to this CD!
Is it now a CD?
Do you get a CD & DVD?
I am confused???
At first I thought it was only going to be a DVD.
When is the release date in the US??
Has Styx gone Euro?? I heard that JY recently sung the anthem at a MLS game. Tommy refuses to bathe.....
I really hope Dennis gets back with Styx. But if not, he ought to look into this symphony thing.
Styx doing this was a brilliant idea. I would of thought that Dennis and his posse would of thought of this idea too???

Yeah, Yogi. But if he starts up doing symphony shows now, he will just be thought of as an unoriginal copycat.

Didn't Dennis start his Orchestra shows before the CYO thing came about. So isn't the band being copycats at this point?
Confused here.
I also thought the guys didn't care about the symphony type of music and they come up and did this. Although this was for a special cause.

Back in 1996, Styx did one symphony show down in Atlanta (many here have the boot of it). After the split with Dennis, Dennis and his partner came up with the idea to do symphony shows, something I've read numerous times that Dennis was leery of. Howver they proved quite successful for him. Now depending on your taste, you either like them or loathe them. I love them myself.
In a few interviews, there were some veiled barbs towards Dennis from his former bandmates regarding these shows.
So of course, just as when Dennis started playing amusement parks and fairs and the "bathwater drinkers" made hay of that because "the DeYoungians" espoused the idea earlier that he would NEVER do that and the band was ruining their great reputation...we have some of that going on here in reverse.
It is a good cause. It's all in how you view it.

So with them coping each other trying to outdo the other, does that mean, Jy will be singing on Celeberty Duets next with Cheech

Well they weren't really interested in doing a Symphony show until they heard about the Orchestra, where most of the kids were under 19 years old.
Personally it will be good to hear both versions and see which one sounds better..
Just as long as they don't put Revel's Bolero in Lady, all will be fine!
Every Orchestra show I've heard of DDY's, everytime he does that there's at least 1 person in the crowd that gasps and says UHGGGGGG! And it's not just me! lol
I love hearing DDY sing Lady, but the classical interlude in the middle? No thanks!

Really...everytime I've heard it the audience around me seems in awe of it. I say that sincerely, not to spark an argument.
If you listen to the original Lady, there is a Bolero in it, so it isn't that much of a stretch for it to be included there.
Now...the one used in Pieces of Eight I could live without...the song is just fine as it was.
Peace

Hey, Styxfansite. We do like to kid around on here! Sorry 'bout the misinterpretation.
As to POE and the "Hall of the Mountain King" interlude in the middle -- I love the original POE so much, this has taken me awhile to get used to. It is done really well though.
I think Dennis' idea, when he did orchestra shows, was to allow the symphony to shine a bit and include some classical pieces and also to show that some of this music all fits very well together.
I love "Bolero" in the middle of "Lady"

If Dennis plays a symphoney show at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Houston,
And no one is there to hear it because Styx has played 174 shows in the Houston area since 1999,
Does it count as playing a symphony show?????????
