Ok - so I'm watching this.
The opening humor thing was a LOT racier than I thought it would be. Holy cow!
This thing is dripping with hollywood fakeness and everything Dennis likes to say is "bullshit". It's the epitome of what is Hip with young people today. What a great opportunity for Dennis to cross over.

Any idea when Dennis is supposed to be on?
I agree, the opening was a lot racier than I thought it would be. But none of it was really all that funny.

The first thing I noticed that after Dennis was announced the crowd was up on their feet. They didn't know how much of Dennis would actually show up on tv, it was taped last night. Dennis seemed very pleased to be invited on the show and to perform.
Everything else was pretty much BLECH!
I thought he sounded GREAT!!! I'm dying for another Dennis concert!!

Well, Dennis singing was the classiest part of an otherwise pretty tacky and self-agrandizing show. SO many phony people on that show it was very hard to watch. I watched about 20 mins and then taped the rest on the DVR and just watches that part. Dennis looked great in the charcoal and black suit tho.
Very nice plug for Dennis music.

Dennis was great, no question. A nice showcase for his voice, even if it was focused on the "Ladies of Reality TV."
That was such a typical VH1 show. Lots of pop culture, lots of stupid jokes, acres of female flesh, horrible clothes, talking head snark, yada yada.....
I found very little to entertain me, all-in-all.
I thought a telling moment was "Lonelygirl15" a YouTube "star" walking in front of Dennis in the audience, a man who has totally paid his dues as an entertainer, to get her "award." I found it --- ironic. Later on, he was to show them what true musical talent really is.

I thought Dennis sounded great.
It seemed to me though that he was nothing more than a prop for their show.
I'm a big Stones fan. Shit, you could say I love the Stones.
Anyway, there was an episode where Fred had to be a judge in the Ms. Waterbuffalo contest. Right before the finalists came out this singer, that was hired by the Grand Pu Pa of The Loyal Order Of Waterbuffalos sang: Where is she? Where is she? he then busts into:
We've searched high and low for Ms. Waterbuffalo
To wear the beauty crow
With charm and grace
and pretty face.................................................
That seemed like Dennis last night.
He sounded great, but his part sucked.

You know what last night reminded me of? "Karate Kid Part II". We knew that "This Is the Time" was going to be featured in it, and so we were excited to go see the movie, expecting it to be prominently featured. Instead the song was on Ralph Macchio's radio for maybe 3 seconds. What a bummer!

But at least in some small way, DDY is getting out there and keeping himself known, at least to the people that know him-ERIC

Yeah - I am agreeing with this more and more over time. But at least he was included. And I'm sure it was a great chance for him to network with hollywood types and get his name and face out there more from an industry standpoint. He also did real well on the show. I think it was definitely a worthwhile effort.
Also - the band sounded REALLY good

I know it wasn't Dennis' band, but still - it sounded great.

With the exception of Dennis, The Killers, and The Fray that show sucked.
Too bad they didn't show Dennis more because he sounded great. Was that his band backing him? I agree with Ash, it was a great opportunity for Dennis to get his name out there and reconnect with those in the biz.
I loved the Killers performance. Their new album has really grown on me. I think I like it better than their first.

I keep thinking about how many modern groups/singers would have KILLED to get themselves and a song of theirs on that show. Instead, VH1 went back into history a bit and chose Dennis. I think they made a good choice, but that is just me.
I feel that VH1 (and some other programs) are impressed with DDY's still dynamic stage presence and still incredible vocal abilities. And kudos to them for recognizing this and showcasing it.

I tend to agree - sometimes you do things for the exposure. DDY is smart enough to know that the camera wouldn't be on him most of the time.
It ain't called show business for nothing.
