Simply pathetic
I have been a Yes fan for 30 years
This is the worst version I have ever heard of this great song
Shaw go to bed man.

I'm also a Yes fan and I think it's a VERY good performance. Froy, exactly what do you not like about the performance other than the fact that TS is singing? The guitars were on, the harmonies were great, and the lead vocal performance was awesome.

Once again, Froy shows his bias.

No bias at all
I have heard this song 100 times live
Shaw can't sing it right
Second of all why try to sing it the exact way of the original?
Thats called a copy cat
Same with California dreaming
He is just singing for money now

There's 2 schools of thought on doing covers. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...in other words don't change a thing. The other is...why do an exact replica of something. Change it and make it your own. Neither is right or wrong.

Sadie, I usually enjoy your posts because you try to stay out of the petty BS...but this post is probably my favorite of all. As a cover singer, I can tell you that this is a line I tread on a regular basis, sometimes I go one way, sometimes another. It's really up to the individual and what she or he thinks best suits the song.

When you can sing as well as Tommy and Jack, I think any way they choose to sing the cover is fine with me. Their harmonies are beautiful.

I am one who generally prefers the original versions of songs, but when they are sung well by another performer, then I have no problem at all with it.

Thanks for posting these links, NH. I enjoyed them.

It's called a cover or a tribute. Happens all the time.

Froy, your bias light is flashing.

Its called running out of ideas to make money so we copy someone elses idea.
I am a fan of Tommy Shaw but he is ruining his career as well as the STYX name
Somebody should talk some sense into this guy.

I really don't believe you believe your point Froy.

Dennis did his covers album in 1994, does this mean he ran out of ideas 12 years ago?

WHen BBT came out, your arguement was that 10 on Broadway was different because it was a solo album. Now Shaw does the same thing as a solo artist and he's run out of ideas?

From the short clips I've heard of the Shaw Blades album, it sounds pretty good.

10 on Broadway was a good album for Dennis, actually I wish if he wasn't going to record new music that he did more of the "10 on" theme. Rod Stewart is having a very successful back end of his career with the covers theme. When it gets down to it, I want to hear Dennis sing something. The same as I want to hear something new from Tommy - covers or not.

Yes thats what it means
Also he did not do 2 covers in a row
Big difference
Covers cds mean your out of ideas
Dennis did not tour for his cover cd
Shaw can't stop .

True and it was something Dennis wanted to do not for touring money.

Yes and he wants his concert money
Probably now about 10 grand per show,.

From the short clips I've heard of the Shaw Blades album, it sounds pretty good.

Would you rather have that or Damm Yankees?
Case closed.

Let me make it clear
Cover cds stink no matter who sings them.
Rod Stewart is a joke doing CCR and Bob Seger songs what a terrible idea
And he also is out of ideas
I saw his concert and he looked stupid in a tux singing Sinatra songs

I have a recording from 2003 of Summertime.

But they all are musicians and get most of there money from touring, so I can't see what your problem is with them doing whatever they care to in order to maintain their livelihood.

Singing for the love of music or singing for the love of money
You choose .

Well, I don't see any professional musician playing for free. Nature of the beast is if they are playing, they are being paid. Although in the videos you were criticizing they actually were playing for free - it's called charity.

Like it or not, any musician/entertainer who reaches the level of success that these men did (either together or solo) emphasises it's a business.

I am always amazed at how people can bend things to suit their own ideas. The myopia and double standards can be staggering.

I do both every single week. If you can make money through making or performing music, go for it. No one's going to begrudge you the right to make a living at what you like doing, Froy. Think about that.
